IMO, the "smile" is the lofty ideals we hold. Our philosophies on how beautiful and even trivial life is. Our awe and memorization. Those are great things to have, but you still have to go to work, obey the boss, pay bills, fix the car and mow the lawn. Ideas and wonder are fantastic, but you still have to grit your teeth and do the mundane.
