um, obama has only been in office 6 months, and is kind of dealing with the collapse of the economy and two wars. I support the repeal of DADT, but think it's going to take a bit more time.

I don't disagree with you, exactly, but I find the whole "Obama has only been in office 6 months" argument to be problematic. I don't expect DADT or DOMA to be overturned over night, but it wouldn't take much time to make a true statement of support and intention to support the LGBT community.

Obama campaigned on promises of hope and justice and at this point in time he's not living up to that in regards to the gay community.

And in response to that - I understand that it's a process. What I'm asking for is the President to stand up and say he cares about this community that he made promises to, these people that overwhelmingly voted for him. I want him to say that he hasn't forgotten and will make good on trying to bring about change.

I don't think that's asking for too much.

i'm not disagreeing with you. obama was actually pro-gay marriage as a state senator, but appears to have watered his support down to civil unions when he decided to run for Prez. I think that's what we can expect from him on issues of equality for gays..when or if it's convenient for him politically. he wants to milk it and make the same promises for his run for 2nd term.

he has not been much of a change gays can believe in, apparently. same ol' familiar politically expedient back burner.

Yes, I agree with this completely, especially the part about political convenience.

I think that's the part I find the most frustrating -- it's so typical. I had honestly hoped for better from him, but at the end of the day, he's a politician and can't do anything if he can't get elected.

I guess I just got my hopes up too far, but I think a lot of us did. Campaign promises =/= political reality.
