I need to learn how to play bass, just to try to be as badass as these guys, I already have a friend who plays guitar, and someone who drums, all I need is lessons and my guitarist friend in on it, and I have a small band!
@ThereIsNoSpoon0007 For another amazingly super awesome badass bassist check out Arif from Protest The Hero. Check out the music video for "Sequoia Throne".
hey , does anybody know of any forums or anything where it might be possible to find a singer for a band of this style , in Essex - UK? Influences such as these , Tool , Deftones, Faith No More/Mike Patton projects , Melvins , Portishead , Isis , Meshuggah etc , Thanks would be a great help.
Saw this live. Was purely epic. They built it up to an extreme point with a lot of layering and stuff... then burst out with the intro riff. I felt like I was going to die.
I really don't know why but post-rock and post-metal always makes me think of architecture or the sea for whatever reason. Anyway a mighty fine kick ass song.
I just caught 1 minute segments of Russian Circle's set tonight, while I was working security, at the Aquarium, in Fargo ND. Holy fuck are these guys worth listening to; heavy as fuck and very appealing. Probably one of the nicest, most respectful bands I've ever met, as well. I just had to buy "Geneva" (at their merch guy's suggestion) so I could truly appreciate this sonic assault, indelibly marked on my musical tastes. Fantastic show guys!
damn they are so good live. seen em with red sparowes 3 times now and everytime the Russian circles just steal the show (and I really like the red sparowes)
@Fraeg Dude I am so jealous. My love of the Red Sparowes led me to just discover Russian Circles and damn, they are on par....I would love to see them live. I weeks ago had the pleasure of seeing the Red Sparowes with Boris.
@mufeez666 well my friend art is not supposed to be understood by the masses so guess this music does not need to be on mtv..im fine listening it here ..who watches mtv anyway lol..let em teeny happy shit have all the mtvs vivas and all crappy pseudomusic channels :)
@mufeez666 if I saw this song on mtv I would be sad =( Mtv sucks , great music is usually underrated and not popular. But that's what makes it unique =)
They played this at the Thekla a couple of nights ago, was front and center for the whole set (seriously, I could smell Dave Turnacrantz). To say it was fucking unbelievable would be a gross understatement.
i just saw them for the first time live. i was pretty excited and it was even better than i thought it was going to be. the best concert i have been to hands down, i have never felt so much emotion at a concert before. my eyes were closed most of the time, it was almost like i was meditating. the other bands they are touring with are good too. git some just made me laugh, perfect band to get you excited for them.
Although the new album doesnt show much in the way of progression. The sound of Geneva sits somewhere inbetween the high notes of the first album and the meatier riffs off station
Geneva is probably their most well rounded album to date.
When I got the album i was planning on listening to it in pieces. I had a few other things to do around the house, but after I started listening to the album I became so enthralled that I sat there and listened to the entire album straight through. It's just plain amazing.
This issue is definitely a double edged sword. I don't have the money to go buying 10 cds a week, but I've bought many albums from talented artists including Russian Circles because I had the chance to sample them first. New record is superb, woudn't expect anything less.
for example Pelican now uploaded their new album to myspace, so people can listen to it first and if they like it they can buy the CD because it has better sound etc...and I think this album is wonderful, so everyone who can, should buy it ;)
i try to buy as many albums as i can especially local and not so famous artists that i like but it is also good to keep in mind that most artists make most their profit off of shows and merchandise. but still always support good art as much as possible.
I know what you're saying is right, but leaking songs onto YouTube is great exposure for a band like Russian Circles. I myself would have been totally unaware the new album was coming out if this wasn't on YouTube, and I have been able to refer 3 friends to purchase the album as a result. Whether these tracks will stay up for much longer is another issue...
Hey, I respect your comment but I understand that musicians make a lot more money through there gigs than anything else but don't you think if you buy the CD rather then downloading it, your supporting them a bit more?
since i have a finite amount of money to spend, i am able to listen to more music and discover new bands at a great rate by downloading music. If I was not able to obtain Russian Circles' music for free, it would be highly unlikely I would know who they were at all. In the long run, more wealth is gained by the free sharing of music for nearly every band.
Thats cool and I agree, the free sharing of music displayed on youtube does provide "free advertisement" and I do think thats great but listening to it is a totally different concept then downloading it. These days, almost every band can be listened to on youtube and not downloaded.
The only difference I see is that listening to music on youtube simply takes more time because you have to search for each song individually which only limits the amount of music you can listen to. By downloading and listening through your library, you can listen to more music, discover more bands, and earn more bands a greater profit in the end.
An another difference is that one is illegal and one is legal and I could go on but hey, I had a fun time with this argument, an intelligent one to say the least, but Im off. Cya
That statement is entirely not true, It might mean more people show up for there shoes, but bringing down the business of music will also bring down the channels in which music is made popular. It will ultimately result in bands having less exposure over vast amounts of people. There might be a few big bands but it illegal downloading hurts the music business it will eventually hurt the awareness people of new bands.
Why would a band need to pay a label when they can use the much more powerful internet to gain exposure. The record companies are what kill bands. Any band that thinks record labels are a vital part of their existence are being handcuffed, are lazy and not going anywhere, and most of all, have no faith in their listeners who ultimately decide everything about their success.
@jordanm06111 these guys need the publicity, I thin support should be shown by going to a show, not by paying a record label and giving the actual artist a "cut".
@jordanm06111 for non mainstream i agree. But I'd never ever give money to artists who have more money than they need, no matter how good they were. Not saying RC is like that ;)
@Universe593 So you support buying anything and everything else? The company who supplies your internet, has more money than you can fucking imagine; why're you giving them your money? The owner of whatever fast-food business you stuff in your face has more money than your Internet Provider, why do you still eat there? Not buying something because the owner has a lot of money, is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. It's so stupid i can't even comprehend it.
@Nuclearlion73 Not really, I find that not giving money to various capitalistic institutions (whener i can) promotes economic equality, no matter how small the measure. Every cent I "steal" from Microsoft or Tom Cruise and give to someone who actually deserves it brings us closer to a classless society ;)
Both your assumptions about me are incorrect as well.
@Universe593 They're still making millions and millions of dollars whether you buy from them or not. It's not like your couple dollars is the difference between them thriving, or crumbling. Also, it's not really "stealing", it's more like denying a sale, which is the same as not having sold at all.
@Nuclearlion73 whatever, if there were millions of people like me, it would make a difference, and there probably are. I mean, look at TPB alone. That's millions of dollars lost alone. Nuff for me ;)
@jordanm06111 So true, but trust me, these guys would rather see you at one of their gigs then you buying there album!! The more people it reaches the better. Buy it at one of their gigs, get it signed and rock on!
@jordanm06111 sometimes its really hard to wait. when everyone is listening to an album before its out and they are talking about it its hard to resist.
