  • HA I DO NOT THINK SO!!!!! I bought a new fan mine is dead but after seeing this!!!! I am sending the fan back! and I will just deal!!! I was to take this apart I would never get it back together in not paying $80 bucks for a pro to fix it....

  • do you recommend windows 7 on this laptop?

  • WHY DIDNT YOU TAKE BOTTOM OFF INSTEAD TO GET TO FAN? ALOT EASDIER N ALOT LESS SCREWS? WAS JW

  • I need to take my laptop apart soon and clean it, and I am not looking forward to it. These videos will be very helpful, thank you for taking the time to make them!

  • Do you have a video on how to reassemble it? Because I can't figure out where the two little plugs from the moniter go. If you don't have one, make one! :)

  • hi watch all you vid on opening this putting it back together i cant workout were the gray wire form the screen gos in watch and rewatch your vid you kinda skip that part out any help would be nice

  • when you say a new person do you mean a baby?

  • Nice tutorial, i recently stripped down this model of laptop to clean the cpu thermal paste to apply new stuff. Wasn't difficult but its annoying when it had so many tiny screws. The fan is shit but i dont think there are any replacements unfortunately so i hope a change of thermal paste is enough.

  • @KieranD212 Okay, that was three weeks ago. I was thinking of applying some Arctic Silver thermal compound, but if the fan is shit and it's not going to effectively cool anything, I was wondering if there's even a point in doing that. Sounds like it's going to run at high speeds and burn out no matter what. I have a CQ62 and it will not work with Speedfan since the fans aren't wired that way. Not going to strip this down and apply compound if it makes no difference. What do you think?

  • @flyingsoundmachine I didn't notice until i took the fan apart but it was clogged up and cleaning it made a massive difference, changing the paste just makes it transfer heat more efficiently so it makes a little difference but if the machine works then its not really worth the effort.

  • @KieranD212 Well, my machine is in pretty good health. I just use it quite a lot, and I want to keep it clean. I had it cleaned at Staples for like 30 bucks about 3 months ago, and I noticed that my CPU was idling at 100% usage, so I reset that to 5% and reset maximum usage to 90%, and I've actually noticed a pretty big difference just from doing that. My fan heat peaks at about 64C. Of course, it idles at about 58c, so I'm wondering if I still have to tweak a few settings still.

  • I can not believe i have to totally strip down the laptop to clean out the fan... Oh well...

  • @leeofbacup thats what I thought! mines stopped working ,.. but I wont be trying this cos if it ain't broke (yet) dont try to fix it is always true for for me!

  • @gginah84 yeah, please dont... I managed to get mine all the way down to the fan, I gave it a good clean, put everything back together. But i somehow managed to break the plastic thing that the keyboard electrical ribbon slots into. And to top it all off my fan is louder than ever...

  • Good job but u only can get to the fan trough the keyboard???

  • This is a very "greasy" video. =p

  • tha cpu i want to install is a amd 2.1GHz Athlon QL-65 duel core

  • whats up i was going to try to upgrade mine its a cq61 and i want to put a amd athlon duel core 2.1 in it what do you think

  • Hi, I just did this to my own cq61 today and noticed that when you take the heatsink off it breaks the thermal paste bond between the cpu and the heatsink. It seems to be running at a good temperature for now but I haven't tried anything too taxing. Will I need to replace the thermal paste as you did the same in your video and never mentioned anything. Thanks.

  • Very helpful video. I need to take out a BIOS battery in my Compaq presario 2200. It looks like the bios battery is underneath the motherboard. They really need to improve upon easily removing important things like bios battery, LCD screen, fan. Compaq, HP seems to make things especially difficult.

  • Thanx for the tut, helped a lot. :)

It is so stupid that you literally have to take the damn thing apart just to get to the fan.

On my old Acer all you had to do was remove the back cover.

  • Thanks for this series, I found them quite informative and useful. Intro is kinda annoying though ;)

    Seriously though, Thank you!

  • This video went viral on Ulaanbaatar

  • Hey davin!

im having problems with mh HP presario cq45. unfortunately, water sipped into my laptop screen and its pretty bad. blotches of water in the screen. and i swear to god, i am not good with unscrewing crap off this laptop. is there any other alternatives you recommend?

    thankyou very much.

  • As the CQ60/61 models are prone to some movement of the heat sink, you'd think they'd make cleaning out the intake filters a little easier. Many laptops have a hatch that allows instant access to the dust filter and thereby instant overheating cure. I'd never buy another Compaq. The ASUS X53E I now have runs cool as ice, even under heavy load.

  • Hey Man seem you know your way around this machine. I've got this same model I'm having Hard drive issues. Getting 0303, 0305 errors. Tried to do a system restore from Recovery but I keep getting a runtime error that shuts the restore down. Do you now anything about the command prompt function in system checks in the HP system restore screens that might help me out?

  • One thing he didnt tell you is when handling something like this please take static precautions. That little shock that jumps form your fingure to another person is Lethal to you electronics devices. Static shock is bad. Wiki static damage..

  • I was just wondering if its possible to upgrade the processor in this laptop, at the moment ive got a amd athlon and want to put in a dual core I5 for better gaming.

  • @BADBOYZ4LIFE2010 No you can not swap an AMD cpu for a Intel cpu. You will need to completely swap out the motherboard that is capable of using an Intel cpu. However I don't think they build motherboard bodies that support Intel Core i5 for this laptop casing.

  • I'm never buying a laptop again. I just want to replace my graphics card darn it.

  • Mr. Geek: I wish I'd have thought to look for this earlier! Thanks. I would also like to know: Is the charger/power connex mounted inside the plastic shell with a cable to the board or is it mounted on the mobo itself? I can't tell from the vid. The d@%n sissy thing has gone bad from movement despite being cautious.

    Tnx agn for the vid.

  • i got a sd card jammed in my laptop and it wont come out, what do i do to take it out

  • do you need to remove the monitor to get to the fan ?

  • @harvinda11 Yes

  • @DavinDaGeek YOU ARE WRONG,, NO NEED TO REMOVE THE MONITOR TO GAIN ACCESS TO FAN!

  • Gówno warty filmik.. gość pierwszy raz rozkłada.. Rozłożyłem.. a teraz niech ktoś nakręci filmik jak skręcić.

  • My fan on this laptop stopped spinning so i followed your instructions to disassemble my laptop to clean my fan...now it works :D Thank you very much I don't how to thank you, can I send you money through Paypal or something because you just really helped me out big time. Thanks again man.

  • if i have to go this far b4 i get to the fan....then its a whole lots of stress......I rather dump it...!!!

  • they could have made the laptop more modular, but instead they made it an unserviceable nightmare.

  • i have the same laptop cq 60 can you make a video how to change cpu?

  • my problem is remembering where everything goes :|

  • God.... all that just to get to the fan... I don't know if I'm up for this....

  • I have this laptop aswell. Hence why I'm searching for your video. But what really makes me mad is that you have to do all this just so you can clean your fan. I has many of the perks that the more expensive laptops have like the sd card slot, 5 in 1 card reader, HDMI port, Windows Vista and lightscribe technology. I got all this just from the stickers on my laptop. My fan has been running slightly faster than usual but my computer is not overheating. Should I buy new fan or clean old one?

  • @DavinDaGeek, thank you SOOO much for for these videos! I have the same laptop as you and was wondering how the hell I could get to my fan to clean it as it was making a huge amount of noise. Thanks to you my laptop now is quiet.

    Cheers

  • спасибо

  • Just a quick question before i commit to doing this myself (laptops running at 100 degrees) Are all of those wires you "unplugged" soldered on or are they literally plugged in and easily unpluggable and re-insertable? Thanks in advance.

  • the fuck...my laptops temperature is 74 degrees

  • i wanna kill whoever came up with this design on this damn computer... =.=

  • How do you fix a dc jack on a cq60

  • Great videos, very informative! What method of grounding did you use when dismantling the laptop?

  • Where is the Graphic's Card?

  • @mikez048 ON this model of Laptop, my Graphic Card is a small chip next to my cpu. :)

  • @LiLGaNgSt3r737

No, desktop GPU's are not compatible with laptop GPU's. There used to be a little USB tool that allowed you to use a desktop GPU on a laptop, but it was rather slow.

If you want to upgrade a laptop cpu or gpu you need to have some soldering skills and a steady hand. Your best bet is to buy a laptop with a GPU slot, though.

  • i need help...how can disconnect the monitor on my laptop compaq presario cq 40.....

  • @eddie2815 Look at part 3

  • Do u know by any chance how to tighten the moniter hinges on this machine?..

  • they were stupid with putting the fan under all that crap lol.... should have just put a small door on the bottom lol

  • nice tutorial, my sister can clean her laptop now, I have a CQ56-102LA series, does any one know how to remove the keyboard of that model? I want to clean the fan 'cause it's overheating but I can't remove the @%&ing keyboard, please heeeelp!! thanks =)

  • thanks for this- it really helped me fix my laptop. Your explanations are in plain language and easy to understand. Thanks for taking time to put this together.

  • man last part you mustn't put it like this, u shall put it like breaking the laptop or ramming it into the wall or something -,- because you didnt leave a piece in the laptop you didnt remove it -,- , and i bet my neck if you didnt throw this laptop away -,- | btw this song from gta valhalla gaming -,-

  • I follow the video and everything. I can't figure out where the 2 black wires go that's sticking out the side of lcd monitor. Please help

  • ineed to take the fan do i have to get out the screen

  • Is there such chip called a temperature controller chip??

  • its to difficult to remember all the screws where's going back again

  • I want to take it apart to clean the fan but I am worried I won't be able to put it back together lol

  • Do you know if you can buy an upgrade for this heatsink and fan?

  • What kind of crazy trick are you using at 0:56 when you just lift the front cover from the base? Dude, I'm pretty sure you need more effort to disengage the front cover from the rest because my one seems to be glued together.

  • I have a Compaq Presario F712NR, but I'm sure they're all the same. For mine, Phillips #1 works perfectly to open all of the normal screw. I also have Phillips #0 for the smaller screws. I bought the kit for $5 (without tax) just a few days ago at Target.

  • well now im not sure i want to upgrade my processor if i have to do all of that

  • Heyy, DDG! Know its been a while since you replied on this video but, I have the computer. You have to disassemble from top to get to the bottom cover, right? I have a dent in the back cover hitting the fan. Reassure me, I have to do the whole thing or am I better off getting a new laptop. The fan still spins but, make a continuous nicking sound. Help me!!!

  • I had a problem with my compaq overheating so i just held a hoover over the vent and that seemed to work

  • How could anyone design such a stupid laptop? why not make a service hatch!?!?!?!? if i do this with my girlfriends computer she is gonna kill me

  • Took it apart, got it back together and it still works! wow :) core temp is back to around 50 degree celcius, but the gpu temp still climbs to 100 really fast. Did I forget to clean anything in particular?

  • finally you did it Devin! yay! anyways as im sure u know by know u need a presicion screw driver set which u can by for anywhere from $5-$15 at a comp, hardware, electronics, maybe even a dollar store. anyways im planning on doing a video of my own sometime next week on a copaq presario c762nr so look out for that. do like how you edited the intro and outro.

  • can you replace the graphics card for this model of laptop?

  • this is why i hate compaq computers, i advise ppl not to buy.

just to clean the fan u need to take the entire computer apart. On most labtops you just remove a pannel

  • @Jayjon81 what brand would you recommend

  • thanks man, helped alot

  • Wow this video was great. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this. I was able to disassemble and reassemble and it worked!! I am so happy!!

  • you really helped my cooling fan came unplugged so i needed to watch this XD

  • Just to say a massive thank you to you for making these videos. After deciding to clean this laptop out for a friend as a favour, it became hideously apparent that this was going to be the most difficult laptop to take apart that I'd ever encountered!!

So thank you, but up yours Compaq. Offensively difficult to maintain.

  • Thanks mate really helped

  • lol i like how it went fast wit the music

  • @AnimeFrostyFreak671

thay have really good performance. And I mean REALLY good to be in their price class but once they get dusty they tend to overheat, Not a plesant experience to have the laptop in your lap while it is overheating, But I solved it by simply putting to vacuumcleaner to all the AC-vents on the back of the comp.

  • Hey are you able to take the fan out of the metal casing

  • cool. thanks for the tutorial. i needed to know how to take apart MY cq60-211DX to change my processor to a dual core. awesome.

  • Thanks for your help, finally I sent to check/fix the laptop to a provider. :-)

  • Hi.. I wanna clean the cooler.. so I need do all these steps?!

    Thanks DavinDaGeek

  • @lllwhatslll yes you do.

  • @DavinDaGeek it's a load of bs that they make it so complicated to open & clean these. I'd rather put up with mine overheating and dying than have to do this repetatively.

  • @DavinDaGeek what type of internal battery dose the support coms or bios

  • Hi, I have a Compaq CQ40-525LA, how Can I remove the keyboard, The screen is back when is ON, I'd like to check the screen-video cable.

    Thanks

  • @theufo1974 Same issue... Can u tell me where is the screen-video cable on Compaq CQ40-314TU? The screen is fine when the lid isn't moving but it becomes black when it's half way closed (less than 90 degree)

  • Where's the CPU? I can see the BIOS chip, which really should be a bit harder to see.. And where I imagine the CPU should be(inside the silvery rectange/brace thing), I just see more parts of the mobo...

  • lol your entertaining how you are taking that thing apart i never had wires attached to the motherboard or the usb i never had to unscrew but good luck to you lool i might make a video of me taking mine apart and applying arctic silver 5 to my cpu since my laptop is running hot

  • can you post a video in wich you show how to disassemble the lcd panel?

  • Hooooboy.. I was hoping to just get into the noisy fan to clean it that's why I was rummaging in youtube. But after watching your video and seeing I have to to take it all off I'm having second thoughts lol. Anyway, wish me luck :D

Oh btw. What if I decided take off my dvdrom and not put it back in is there something I can cover the empty slot with? Thanks :)

  • I all soo realise that the nvidia drivers produce a lot more temperature than the original hp drivers. A simple way for those how don't want to disasambel , not so eficient is using a powerful vacuum. It's a preaty good laptop I realise that I can even play black ops with the latest updates.

  • Helloooo, you videos are super... I've completed all that you done in your first video... I just want to get to the fan as it has a problem ... Do I have to take everything off to get to the fan?? My email address is Leeeesa69@hotmail.co.uk... I'd reaaaaally appreciate your advice as I don't want to spend a fortune on taking it to a repair shop.. Thank you soooooo much ... X x x

  • @MsXBOX360GIRL same, mine is clogged up with dust and gets really hot and really loud. ive taken it appart before once a year ago bt now i think its time again. it is like spinal surgery tho its complicated !

  • do i have to take all these thing apart

just to get to the fan?

  • @imbasuperfly Yes!

  • @DavinDaGeek Why do they put us through this kind of hell just to get our product working again? -.-

  • thanks.. i think u should teach on how to combine n part it back..

  • Thx bro! i want to know if i can change my CPU, i have the same laptop please answer as fast as you can!

    Thx :D

  • hi could you help[ me! i have the same laptop as that and in this video i can see the processor......but is there a way to get too the processor from the bottom of the laptop rather than going through the keyboard! thanks alot!

  • be careful when you pull the top cover off...laptops I've worked on have a ribbon cable that attaches the touch pad. That ribbon cable should be loose first. Anyway I'm not an expert by any means...I did work for some years in a electronic repair shop and I learned to always be gentle when pulling things apart. I'm 60 years old so have been fooling around with electronics for some time.

  • can u make a tutorial on how to change the cpu fan cuz mine broke and its over heats and turns off so yeah haha

  • @jjjkkk57 broke as in what ? over heating its probably due 2 something stuck in the fan like hair or w/e

  • Do you take off the hdmi tap ?

  • @ISMAEL6201 no I did not.

  • @DavinDaGeek but the motherboard doesn't have hdmi output

  • this may sound wierd but you can place the fan over your bottom and fart and your good from there

  • PLEASE for the love of god can you tell me what the power supply wattage is ive been trying to figure this out forever without actually taking apart my laptop because im looking to update the graphics card to a Radeon hd 4650 il be very thankful if you could get back quick!

  • @FadedVictor btw i have a compaq presario cq60

  • hi i have a problem with my laptop overheating what should i do presario cq60

  • @mikejona1 have you fixed it yet ? if not its probably something in you fan it happend with mine and i had a ball of dog hair stuck in my fan since i cleaned it its fine working great

  • hii....do u have the video how to disassemble Compaq presario CQ40 laptop... it means alot to me man.....hope u will help me on this.....thanks

  • @evo7309 This video is interchangeable, CQ40 and pretty much all the CQ presarios that look like this one takes down the complete same.

  • This tutorial is awesome, thank you. This will definitely help me in my efforts to de-dust the innards of my poor compaq.

  • @madthrawn21 Thanks, I'm happy I was of some help to you =D

  • wow i am trying to clean the fan, and i didnt know you have to take the whole thing apart to get to it.

  • or you can us a air can

  • i have a cq60 and it just over heats like crazy do you think cleaning the fan will fix this?

  • @frodo90 Yes cleaning the fan will help your computer out. I clean my laptop out every month or so, It tends to get dusty in the fan a lot.

  • @frodo90 it might be dust or the fan if broken my fan is broken so i am going take apart my computer

  • Comment removed

  • I have a CQ60 418DX and I am wondering if I can replace or add another video card on it.

  • @ZaoHuZhua You're gonna have to change out the whole motherboard if you want to do that.

  • Thank you so much. I have to replace the fan heat heat sink on my daughters compaq. I never done such a thing before, you are a lifesaver... I feel like I have some clue on how to proceed.

  • @sabken1 Yeah it's gonna be a ton of easier once you take the computer apart like 2 times, after that it will become elementary to you, and you'll know where everything needs to go.

  • Hey man, did you get it back together and working?

I love my cq60 and it kind of hurts to see it like that.

  • @flopski Yep, I it's working just great. It's my only computer and I'm typing this comment on it right now.I'm hoping to get a new powerful computer someday soon to replace this one.

  • so just to get to fan i need to take screen off and take off whole keyboard?

  • @elvetankage yep =)

  • @DavinDaGeek um thing is im 15 and not rlly wiz on laptops and stuff tbh i use to play game so wut wud u advise like wud putting vaccum over fan work or would you suggest taking to a shop?

  • @DavinDaGeek It's not very hard and I have all soo the cq60 manual but I hate this it's a lot of work to get to the fan. My old hp laptop was special build to get to the fan from behind. Hoever nice tutorial and probaly I will disassamble myne, becouse with the new windows 7 some thimes the core it's riching 98 degres. Probly I have a lot of dust in it.

  • hey i would like to change my motherboard to a gamming motherboard can you recomend me one replay fast plz

  • @MegaTechHD I have no idea which would be good? Sorry =0

  • its ok ty for responding =)

  • anyone know what the best CPU is for this laptop that i can install

  • @0111100111 not sure if you have already got a new screen for your laptop, I have the same laptop with the broken screen, and once with other laptop a vostro 2510 I bought the screen at bliss computers, they are located in NJ, and Im going to buy the screen for the cq60 there too this week.

  • where is the cpu

  • @lacarretadelamuerte Right under the fun.

  • @spursfanboi1 I'd check Ebay, or the Hp website it self.

  • question, My girlfirend's sound port shift, I'm going to have to move the motherboard to get to it?

  • @YoungRay No, you're not gonna have to take out the mother board to change or take out the sound port.

  • @0111100111 I'd say check out ebay. They have some good stuff there.

  • thanks david,

this video save my 300$, i have screen blinking problem, I plunged LCD screen wire proper. And problem solve. thanks ones again.

  • Hi daven, I have the same CQ60 notebook. The screen goes blurry/white unless I open it all the way. if i put it on my lap and use it . it goes blurry again. if there is any movement it will go blurry. Please help.

    Thanks

  • @eliasfikir12 Try to take it apart and see if any of your cords are loose. That could be the problem, or you might just have a damaged screen.

  • Hey one question.

What is the difference between the CQ50 series and CQ60 series?

    I have the CQ50 Series.

I had the worst time taking out the plate below the keyboard.

  • Nothing much, they are pretty much the same, but with different Cpus and harddrive size and what not,

and I have a video on taking the keyboard off and all that good stuff.

  • dude you have guts....im to scared to do that to my laptop cuz i dont want to mess with it at all.!!!

  • @JDLilman Well it takes a bit of practice. The first time is always the trickiest.

But when you do it more often the more easy it will become to you.

I've had my laptop for a year and a few month and I have opened it about 4 or 5 times, I haven't messed anything up yet. But I understand man, you don't have to do if you don't want to.

  • This the same as a CQ50 right cause i got that

  • @LebronandWallace Yes it is made the same =).

  • @LebronandWallace Its the same, I just finish taking my cq 50 apart. Dont forget to get some heat sink paste to reply when You take the heat sink apart......

  • @KB2TKG lol 1 year ago.

  • @pdani72 Yes it should. =)

  • the cq60 has way too many screws lol...

  • @bcook036 Tell me about it x___X. I one or two out because they're a real pain in the azz to remove, and the computer is fine without them anyway.

  • Wat is your pc model dude

  • nice tutorial man, much appreciated :)

but i still can't take the silver plastic/metal part off the motherboard, cause i need to change my processor.all the screws have been removed btw.

  • @ RisingDevilOfChaos Thanks, and you might need to unclip it from the sides or you should try to pull it off a bit harder, or you just might be missing one screw. I don't know, but tell me if you opened it? =)
