"Curbstoning"

I got hit by a CL curbstoner. They bought the car from a private party in Everett and relisted it on craigslist. They sold it to me but then gave me directions to go to the original party's home and pick up the title. When I figured out it was the original owner, they said they initially sold the vehicle for about a $1,000 less than what I paid. I confronted the 2nd seller about what I had learned and he said too bad you agreed to the price. I was happy with the car though.

As with most govt regulations, it is intended to eliminate competition from the large companies. You will find most regulations are supported by big business and most regulators are from big business. They say these cars are salvage, flood, etc. That is just scare tactics (no I don't sell cars on the street or otherwise, but back in the 1970s I worked my way through college that way).

@386Motoring I fall back on my earlier point that people should be responsible enough to take it to a mechanic before they buy. Its not up to the taxpayer to pay for this guy to go around and then look through peoples private records. Theres numerous reasons people may use a different number than their own for this, and the fact he cant match it up, is still not a justification to be handing out tickets. A private sale is a private sale, and the government has no business being involved period

Good Advice. Most of the car sold this way are junk. Beware you can not get your money back.

@386Motoring  some dealers might but not all i work for a dealer an we take all our junk back to the auto auction this curbstoning it does not only hurt the public but it hurts the dealer as well but the thing is curbstoners can not be traced the guy lied when he said he can trace their phone numbers he can not do that.if the car never gets put in the curbstoners name how can it be traced back to that curbstoner

@Richierich1285 Usually the phone number is tagged with that car... it could be online ads, for sale signs or whatever... If that registered owner doesn't answer the phone, be prepared for trouble

@386Motoring not every phone has a contract number tho most of the curbstoners use prepaid phone numbers
