i bet anything like 20 to 30 years from now that first one will be possible for third party unlicenced companies such as yobo to make. once nintendo's rights to manufacture the gamecube expire, such as the NES and SNES did, companies will be making these portable gamecube players just like they do now with the fc twin systems or the portable NES systems.

If anyone is seriously thinking of making one, as yeah3652 said, it's gonna cost you big time (cost me around 500 dollars and countless hours). Don't even try to wire the Disc Drive, there are so many wires, just buy a Qoob Pro and launch the games off of SD :)

hmmm i think the first one is cool but i think nintendo was going to make that after the gamecube but changed their mind and made the gameboy since that will be too big although the graphics were horrible on gba sp but the first GB portable look like it may have been a picture that helped form the gba sp shape, (notice that gamecube was made 2001 and gba sp 2003 so that could have been what they wanted to do before they made the sp.
