  • 23 people don't know Katatonia

  • back in '93 this band showed a raw and powerful potential, now it's getting an extraordinary beautiful kinetics, this is the most beautiful evolution of musical message growing from metal roots

  • Beautiful song :)

  • Everything is RIGHT about all of this!!

  • i am SOOO jealous I didnt make it to the Kataonia & Opeth show..

  • 22

  • if there has ever been beauteousness in sadness, katatonia brought it to next level!

  • FUCKING LEGENDARY!!!

  • A little bit of pure class can never hurt...

  • Comment removed

  • they have all morphed into a thing a beauty

  • Слушаю Кататонию,только при заниженном настроении!Углубляет состояние одиночества и безысходности!

  • The city lights fading still..

  • The only band that I listen to that I actually don't mind them not growling anymore. With My Dying Bride, the cleans and growls are what makes them, same with Opeth. I wish Paradise Lost would growl again, mix it up though, but with Katatonia, I don't mind either way. Every Katatonia album is a great one.. that said, I wish they'd play more of their death/doom stuff live. WITHOUT GOD!

  • I'm so looking forward to see them tonight!! <3

  • Tomorrow with Saturnus at Lille Vega in Denmark, going to be beyond emotionally awesome!

  • nice video. wish the guy lipped the song with a little more emotion though.

  • Seen these guys play smalls In millvale on Halloween it was badass

  • Awesome... I listen to Katatonia since 96... Great band!

  • first song ive heard of this band that ive never heard of before this

discovered them looking at Skyrim easter eggs, apparently they reference this bands guitarist and some of their songs and albums in the game

gotta say, this is the strangest way ive discovered a band, and i like them

  • @uzuTheGuardian Actually c'mon man, Katatonia is more about relationships than Opeth I'd say. My Twin is a perfect example of this.

  • good song on an otherwise mediocre album.

  • @jloo222

  • @jloo222 That's crazy!Sure, this is the best song on the album but man, there's Liberation, Onward into Battle, Forsaker, The Promise of Deceit....actually, the only song that can be considered mediocre is Nephilim. Always skip that one and Departed was great on first listen but it's not a song I'm always in the mood for. Other than that, this is easily their best album along with TGCD and VE.

  • one of the greatest emotional songs ever made

  • nice drumming

  • Best music video I've seen since a long time. And a great song, too :-).

  • I was the first to spit on the new stuff of Katatonia after Last Fair Deal Gone Down, i tried to listened to Night Is The New Day, and dunno, i didn't get it, i really disliked it, but few months ago i decided to go again into this album, and waw !

I completely changed my mind... what a great stuff, full of languorous melancoly, again a definition of the "bright" sadness of Katatonia, I admire the influences, the sound, the flow of this album. MASTERPIECE

  • @Feanor940 I did the same EXACT thing. I bought it the day it came out, listened to it once then, a month or so ago I listened to it with new ears I guess........haven't stopped playing it ever since.

  • masterpiece...

  • I haven't watched wrestling since 1991, but the first thing I thought when this started playing was how much he looks like the Undertaker. Hahahahaha.

  • Awesome video!!!! The director is PURE GENIOUS! PURE TALENT! PURE ALL THE WAY! I bet he looks like a dork though :/

  • 18 people eat shit for breakfast

  • @burymeinsmoke47 dude the reason why those 18 people hate it itz cuz their deff :D

  • @pakiw2 22

  • @burymeinsmoke47 I listen to this song every day while i'm having breakfast :)

  • seeing them tonight with opeth!

  • @snewso I will be seeing them in a couple weeks with Opeth! So excited!!

  • @ChriosM me tooooo in Detroit :D

  • @ChriosM where are u seeing them :)? I'll be at the Guelph concert theatre :D:D

  • Pure Gold; amazing song; so well crafted the different parts are molded together seeimglessly and perfectly, something Katatonia do better than Opeth in my opinion.

  • Katatonia is awesome. They blend melody and heaviness so well \m/

  • @jzsking well now that i got Katatonia yea(: and i realize thats the cheeseiest thing i could possibly say lol

  • fucking awesome \m/ one of my best song ever :D

  • such a damn great song and album \m/ my favorite lyric from the record is "face your fears and pierce the night." it's simple but deep

  • @knite778778 that lyric was written by Krister Linder - he was a guest on the album.

  • Casualist SENT ME HERE :) HON STREAM

  • i love this song

  • @angeleterno07 me too u____u

  • I just love this band!

  • I'd marry that voice.

  • Jak zimny jest płomień naszej bezkompromisowej przyszłości

    Jak zimne jest Słońce

    >6,666

    >666

    >:D

  • "And I would freeze if you ever asked me" .... people not listening to Katatonia should get a permanent ban on this planet.

  • @uzuTheGuardian Also, 90% of their discography is extremely catchy. Which is insane for a band to pull off.

  • @uzuTheGuardian I wasn't speaking of lyrical content or thematic elements. I was speaking solely on song structure, atmosphere, presentation, production, etc

  • They are both great in their own ways. Don't get me wrong, Opeth is absolutely amazing, and so is Katatonia. But music is subjective, so who can really say which band is better? And what is even the point of establishing that? What does it accomplish besides absurd amounts of cockyness. Opeth is my favorite band, but the fact that we are all here listening to these not-so-popular bands is awesome in itself, because only we know how great they are. We can't have dis-unity! Or the core kids win!

  • @SavaOdy I agree, I'd definitely take Opeth over deathcore any day. As I said before though, I don't hate them nor do I think they're bad. The only reason I responded to any of this is because caspargrindcore said "it's a shame Opeth didn't make [this song]", which, even though he was talking about the length, is still insulting in my opinion. Like, Katatonia makes amazing music but instead of talking about them you're talking about another band that already has twice as many fans.

  • @AbsurdRedLight

That's completely fair, and even though i could easily draw on how some parts are similar in how they sound (For obvious reasons), I do agree that, that particular fan was being arrogant, and probably only listened to a good 30 seconds of this. But perhaps that guy could have been describing simpky how well the song could have fit into a band like Opeth's catalogue, and simply meant praise for it.

  • Also, in addition to all this, I got called retarded and told to leave just because I don't care for the music that a band makes (which isn't even their video). I never said, "Opeth fans are stupid" or anything of that nature. The only time I did was when I was getting personally attacked for my opinion so in return, I did the same.

  • Mind-blowing video. Jonas is like an angel, oh my god.

  • great song!

  • They are writing really brilliant songs, Katatonia is the "Depeche Mode of Metal" :)

  • This song is absolutely future classic! After hundreds of years, children will have to learn everything about Katatonia in school... because this song is perfection of the Art...

  • Only katatonia has the might to shroud people in a very unique atmosphere of melancholia.

  • why did katatonia change there musical style?

  • What album is this on?

  • @macunaima their newest one, Night is the New Day

  • I dont know If you know about the fact that Mikael Akerfeldt From Opeth and Jonas Renske from Katatonia are best friends.

  • @schranza100 Katatonia's touring with Opeth on their Heritage Tour. I hope to go see them.

  • @schranza100 Yes, I do.

  • how cold is the flame of our uncompromising future.... this and ashen are my favorites of the new album

  • My favorite song of the new album.

  • Wonderful video to a epic song

  • epic

  • Great album,great band

  • Music is great. But this video some kind of crappy ;-( i;m in so sad

  • Comment removed

  • this song need to be 8 minuets longer. its a shame opeth didnt make it lol

  • @caspargrindcore Opeth wish they were half the band Katatonia is

  • @AbsurdRedLight Katatonia are have become spectacular with this album but they will never be as amazing as the mighty Opeth.

  • @TheMrAdax Opeth is overall boring and have maybe a few interesting songs each album. Even at that, they're overrated and I don't understand why they have so many fans. Sure, they're great musicians but they're generic song writers. Katatonia, on the other hand, are incredible song writers. Their latest release, though, is among the weakest in their catalog. The Great Cold Distance, Last fair Deal Gone Down, Viva Emptiness, Discouraged Ones; I'd stack any of these albums against Opeth's albums.

  • @AbsurdRedLight "generic song writers" YOU UTTER RETARD!!! Do you realise how ridiculous that comment is? I'm still laughing from that comment.

  • @TheMrAdax lol I knew some butthurt fanboy was going to say something like that.

  • @TheMrAdax Here's my deal with Opeth and Katatonia. Opeth WERE my favourite band but now the torch goes off to Katatonia. I still love Opeth to death but everytime I hear Watershed or Heritage it makes my stomach churn. And it pains me for saying this about a band that was everything to me. Opeth's last 2 albums were well below average for me...unlistenable. Within 9 albums Opeth has released 2 that are not of my tastes. Katatonia with 8 doesn't have one bad album-in fact, they're getting better

  • @AbsurdRedLight Most of what you wrote is terribly wrong. Please go away.

  • @JCTranscended lol at the butthurt Opeth fan comments from a Katatonia video. Opeth's fans are the most obnoxious fans in metal, so much so, that it even transcends to other band pages when you say something is better than them.

  • just a great song!!

  • this song has been my life soundtrack this past year. so much has happened:heartbreak, losing my uncle, nearly losing my mom,and endless clinical depression, and this song got me through it all. this has been my longest year.

  • @TheGears999 That was a rather upsetting paragraph for me to read. my heart goes out to you. remember, katatonia loves you... you bought their album ;)

  • @hl2678 thanks man..i appreciate it(= and im glad, because i happen to love katatonia back!! =D

  • @TheGears999 I am with you friend. This song is my opus for 2011. I lost my best friend at the beginning of the year and got out of the longest relationship of my life this year. Thankfully there are amazing artists like Katatonia to help us through the tough times. Long live Swedish metal.

  • @jpdvc im sorry for your loss friend ): but your right, long live swedish metal. It just has a passion you don't find in other music.

  • Katatonia has helped me through so damn much the last few years! Their music is very heartfelt but inspirational, may be dark to some but entering within this void is one of the greatest strengths a person could feel!

  • Love this song! (L) From sweden ;)

  • thats my favourite song

  • I am huuuman and I need to be loved...

  • The idea of makeing the music video must have taken allot of effort to make all the music fix into there concept felt in all the lyrics projected and sang lol. I really like this band :).

  • @kitsunefire5 yeah but all the videos not came from katatonia's head all the ideas are from the director and label too bad :-(

  • Here's a band on top of their game. Everything about this song is perfect

  • your music makes me feel drained. its truthful. but tiring.

  • @retorique All Of their stuff are gr8 u should listen to "The Great Cold Distance" album ,Viva Emptiness,Last Fair Deal Gone Down and if u r into Doom/Death genre Get the Old Ones like Brave Murder Day.. :D

  • @retorique Go everywhere from anywhere, just as long as you don't limit yourself man! try Dark Tranquillity with their song "Therein", another masterpiece of a band, try Insomnium if you don't know them yet, you'll be blown away, or well more than just that. have fun

  • @retorique discouraged ones

  • @retorique Mb u should listen "the great cold distance" and "Last fair deal gone down". IMHO those are the best albums. And "the day and then the shade" of course.

Sorry 4 my bad English, im Russian actually. Lol

  • @retorique and anyone finding this band for the first time.

Just back track through the albums, they are all good. From "Tonights Decision" forward are probably the closest style to the current album and will have songs that just stick with you. The really old stuff (early to mid 90's) is closer in sound to early Opeth recordings like Orchid/Morningrise. Late 90s sound is the transition faze of them growing into there new style of beautifully dark music.

  • @nightmareresearch

you cannot compare any album of opeth to them

yes they are good but they are not opeth

you have to know how differ between genres

  • @retorique Don't know if you've gotten an answer yet, but I'd say The Great Cold Distance. It's an amazing album! Also, I don't know if you know, but Opeth and Katatonia actually used to collab a lot back in the day, back when Katatonia had growls and played doom metal.

  • @retorique with "last fair deal gone down" you can´t go wrong, their best album, absolute masterpiece. for me, one of the best albums ever on doom/depressive rock

  • @retorique My opinion as an individual who's favorite band is Katatonia. Last Fair Deal Gone Down > Discouraged Ones > Night is the New Day > Dance of December Souls > Tonight's Decision > The Great Cold Distance > Viva Emptiness > Brave Day Murder || (Starting EP's and Singles) > July > The Longest Year > Jhva Elohim Meth... the Revival > Deliberation > Sounds of Decay > My Twin > Saw You Drown > For Funerals to Come... > Day and then Shade > Teargas

  • @xxdanxexx My fav band as well and I started with Brave and at the time would NEVER imagine going to their clean side as I assumed it'd just suck but man my life changed once I decided to check it out.... for me it's like;

    NITND>TGCD>VE>LFDGD>BMD>DO>TD>DoDS

  • @retorique: So...there are many answers of which their best ablum is, but less of what bands are to mention.

I would say: Swallow the Sun, Alcest, Dream Theater and Akira Yamaoka (he made the OST of the Silent Hill series and listening to 'em is soooooooo amazing; I sometimes just lay on bed and listen to Silent Hill 2 OST, being carried away into another world.)

  • @retorique dude this song is far from metal. Just making a suggestion though to a heavy rock group that alot of people consider metal but i don't, but anyways try five finger death punch out or Trivium

  • @benthebigb Haha, Trivium... Five Finger Death Punch sounds more interesting but it has nothing to do at all with Katatonia or a similar musical style. You have to realize that metal is a pretty broad genre, far beyond groove metal, metal core, or heavy-metal.

    Screw rigid genre-labeling anyways.

  • kommatara apisteyth!!!!

  • all hail katatonia

  • The melody at 2.37 is actually amazing.. the vocals are so ethereal

  • I bet this song and video would be gangbusters on acid.

  • well done indeed

  • GENIOS..Tremenda banda

  • Epic. Catharsis. I. Just. Had.

  • 16 people should be thrown out of earth

  • @Gambitheart 17 :)

  • @Gambitheart

    17

  • @Gambitheart hehe

  • @Gambitheart this is katatonia all time best album by far they reinvented themselves here. Even opeth said it . this was a masterpiece. but i reccomend Viva Emptiness the album also good

  • @Gambitheart

Looks like two more joined that list

  • @Gambitheart make that 18 turd bags

  • Comment removed

  • leave those pop elemts out there.

I would really appreciate that, since so many metal bands fucked up themselves by beginning like this. For example In Flames or Amorphis...

  • @Electr0cution Um..... what pop elements are you seeing? Cause all I'm seeing is a beautiful video to a beautiful song.

  • I wonder if the Norway Spiral was an influence for the video at 2:40

watch?v=CxA0Asq2YDg&feature=related if you haven't seen it.

  • Don't like this album as much as their older ones, but this song is so perfect!

  • absolutely fucking brilliant.

  • This song chills me ...

  • Great album to drive alone at night, dark feelings abound

  • Amazing music, amazing album , amazing band !!!!!

Katatonia in Brazil finally - February 2011 São Paulo

  • The Chorus is one of the best and most emotional ones I've ever heard

The whole album is a masterpiece and very thoughtful and depressive

  • this song makes me think of bunnies, flowers, candy canes, love, unicorns etc. so sweet.

  • God this is depressing.. Also awesome.

  • ♥ *------------*

  • ive listened to this band for i dont know how many years, and they have really come into their own, this song being my favourite, but the album in my top 10 of all time, excellent work. now everyone i tried to tell about them, come running back to take another look, love being right :)

  • Perfect and deeply!

  • amazing video, amazing band. Proud to be from Sweden

  • The end of the fucking world

  • whats the meaning of the video i dont get it but great song katatonia 4ever

  • @9rmetal Art doesn't have to have any meaning or purpose, I can be purely aesthetical, expressing one's view of the world around him
