Hey, whats more improtant for editing hd video. A good graphics card or a fast CPU. I have a basic ati card and a dual core x8.5 ghz pentium processor. im kinda on a tight budget but just wanna figure out weather my money would be better spent on a new CPU or a Graphics card.
@gloshglosh Get your CPU, RAM, and hard drives up to speed first, with a semi-decent video card. Technically the video card is "more important" but it will be useless to you if everything else is holding it back.
I can sell it for $260.00 with out the Windows 7 OS. For $350.00 I can include the Windows 7 OS. The sytem is a Quad Core with dual monitor support. It would be better than a $350.00 Dell or HP.
@medeamajic i know pc desktops are capable of holding a lot more memory that is crucial for video editing but are there any pc laptops that can do the job great?
@daviddsiuser MBP doesn't cut it. I have the highest-end 2010 version with the i7, and it can't edit really well - it lags too much when doing more than a single video track. Not sure how much better the 2011 models are, but for editing, I wouldn't use a notebook in any case.
@girlsdrinkfeck ya im looking into a lenovo ideapad that has same processor as the macbook pro 13 inch but with the graphics of the 15 inch macbook pro :) i love macs forever though
@NCFilms1 All you really need is good GPU, something along the lines of the HD 4200+ series would do fine. CPU should be at least dual core, 2.5-3.0GHz is fine. And a minimum of 4GB's of RAM.
I don't care what you guys have. You may have the whole studio full with equipment but I don't care and it does not bother me. I have my system and I am happy with mine even-though mine is a crap system.
I don't care what you guys have. You may have the whole studio full with equipment but I don't care and it does not bother me. have my system and I am happy with mine!
Sorry but this is terrible. The video looks low quality and the filters and effects are way too cheesy even for a home movie. I use a Macbook Pro and I've edited a feature film in iMovie that looked 10 times better than this. I'm not trying to be mean but this is really bad.
I just use what you'd call a "Regular" desktop PC for my editing, as it is all done in standard definition, I have 2 monitors, but because my PC is a "Small-form factor" one, my graphics card needed to be made smaller, and i lost all but 1 DVI & 1 S-VIDEO port. Oh well :)
so ive been looking for a cpu that has at least 2gb or more of ram and thats great for video editing what would you recommend for me... i plan on using programs like sony vegas and adobe affter effects i have around $600 to spend on a cpu, what would you recomend
I should mention the camcorder I own is a Kodak Zi8, it connects via USB port. I havent yet had the need to connect a DV converter to get video on my PC as of yet.
I would like to thank you for sharing what you did, I learned quite a bit.
Interesting video, I have a couple questions about your setup. What is the configuration of your DV converter, NTSC monitor and computer monitor? Im new to video editing and would like to understand the value your trying to share based on the video you made.
I understand the value of having a larger screen to view your project on however; I dont quite understand why you cant just connect a regular high-def TV to open output on your video card to view your work.
Dude, Where do you get your computer parts from? I need to upgrade my hardware; I can't even play hd videos in premiere without it getting like really choppy.
@bytchbeater -- u need a better graphics card like the 5970 ati radeon.. I have a 2TB hard drive - AMD phenom quad processer - and i'm goin nutz cause im choppy too - im really thinking my 3200 ati graphics card needs to be replaced with the 5970 in order to stop that choppy bullshit - my computer did a 3d test and it reads didnt qualify (( not in real hd time )) For these hd camcorders and mts files I think that cards gotta be top performance..
What do you recommend as a good PC for video editing that is affordable and not mind boggling expensive like the Mac Pro 8 core, any suggestions on parts or Desktops?

I use and ADS Pyro DV converter. An Intensity Pro or an Intensity Shuttle might be better.

Can you please help me?
im trying to get a computer that will edit HD video without lagging
and fast rendering time.
i was looking at the imac with:
-3.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
-Frontside bus 1066MHz
-Memory 4GB- DDR3 SDRAm
-NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM
is this good?
NCFilms1 1 year ago
@NCFilms1
That iMac has very low specs. Why are you getting an Apple laptop? What software are you going to be using?
adobePC 1 year ago
@adobePC
im going to be using sony vegas
but i found the computer with this
AMD Athlon™ II 630 Quad-Core Processor
2.80GHz
AMD 760G Chipset
2MB L2 cache
4000MHz system bus
6GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM memory (3 x 2GB) (expandable to 16GB)

I wanted to add the Premiere Pro Previews will look jerky when editing native DV on the VGA monitor.
Edius can pause on odd or even fields.
Premiere can post any frame of the clip to represent the clip in the browser bin.
I made a verbal few mistakes here and there, sorry.
