@32rodrick wrong again, it was Videotaped @ NBC Studios Burbank, CA which was the home to many TV Shows including Chain Reaction w/Bill Cullen, JEOPARDY! w/Art Fleming, Password Plus, Super Password, GO w/Kevin O'Connell, Blockbusters, Classic Concentration, $ale of the Century, SCRABBLE, Time Machine, Your Number's Up, Word Play, Celebrity Sweepstakes, High Rollers, Battlestars, Dream House w/Bob Eubanks and of course, Wheel of Fortune w/Chuck Woolery, Pat Sajak, Susan Stafford and Vanna White
GSN has responded to its viewers (many of them now former viewers) regarding the credit crunching and their response has been, in essence, this is OUR network and we don't care what you think. (Always remember that NBC was the inventor of credit crunching which reminds me. Aren't they still at the bottom of the network ratings? Gee, I wonder why?)
@Noveltooner yep, you got that right! NBC started the whole mess for nothing. The infamous NBC 2000, which started around the 1994-95 TV season at the least if not that season then sometime in the 1993-94 TV season.
He certainly did direct the NBC version. I have about 40 crunched full credit rolls with his name on it. He was also the reason why CS came to NBC in the first place (because Mark Goodson didn't like any other director to direct the show in the beginning).
I agree - he made "Card Sharks", "Family Feud", and "Super Password" his own, just as my favorite announcer Johnny Olson did with "The Price Is Right", "Match Game", and "Body Language", among others.
The All-New Popeye Hour, WKRP in Cincinnati, The White Shadow, and Dallas debuted on CBS while Mork and Mindy, Fantasy Island, the original Battlestar Galactica, Vega$, and Taxi (which later moved to NBC in 1982) debuted on ABC & Fantastic Four, Project UFO, Diff'rent Strokes (which later moved to ABC in 1985), David Cassidy: Man Undecover debuted on NBC.
@megamanj2004X and also, 1978 was the year that the late Art Fleming returned as the host of JEOPARDY! and plus, the set was designed by Henry C. Lickel who was the same guy that designed the set to Double Dare w/Alex Trebek and Family Feud w/Richard Dawson and although the Ray Combs Set and Eubanks' Set of Card Sharks have their fans, I personally prefer Jim Perry's Set of Card Sharks and Richard Dawson's Original Set of Family Feud
I agree! GSN always cheats us out of hearing the music at the end, just to remind us to watch a program that we NEVER cared for in the first place! And when they finish their promo, they jump right to the next show! They seem to be alienating game show purists, and fans. They aren't fooling anybody.
@carchavtube I agree with you on that one - with the credit cut offs, speed-ups, and lack of classic on the network, I rarely watch it these days! I bet Gene Wood, Johnny Olson, Rod Roddy, and all of the other great announcers are rolling in their graves for what GSN is doing to tarnish their memory! So what if there was a plug for Turtle Wax - these greats did such a great job that you would buy anything that they told you about!
@carchavtube I agree - GSN is a joke to those great emcees, as well as to game shows in general - what I wouldn't give for the days when the USA Network knew how to air a game show the RIGHT way!
@DENo1MatchGameFan Let's not forget, CBN (which is now abc family) aired reruns of Card Sharks w/Jim Perry as well as other Classic Game Shows and they NEVER crunched credits, but when it became Fox Family, that's when they started crunching credits, but thankfully, Boomerang doesn't crunch credits either
Is it sad to say I wanna live in the 1970's to watch old game shows ...

GSN blows.
Period.
End of story.

Slim, snug, sexy. I wonder if that's why the birthrate declined in the 70s in America. LOL.

@Noveltooner
That's a great way to lose and alienate viewers!
How many times can you watch a promo for a show you [still] don't care about?!
"Card Sharks" is the only thing I watch these days, and when the show ends, I just mute the crunch.
carchavtube 1 year ago
@carchavtube I do you one better-- I fast-forward through it! (I have it on a regular schedule on DVR.)

I wonder if stage manager Jerry Masterson is related to John Masterson (the creator and originator of "Queen for a Day" and "The People's Court").

GSN, there is a time to promote yourselves, THEY'RE CALLED COMMERCIAL BREAKS!
carchavtube 1 year ago
Oh, and by the way, why do they censor a contestant when they say "Oh My God!"?
carchavtube 1 year ago
@carchavtube It was a common practice at the time. It was, right or wrong, seen as taking the Lord's name in vain.
sshuffield70 1 year ago
This episode should be rerunning on GSN very soon.
MrLogoman007 1 year ago
The good old days of when the announcers would read all the fee plugs instead of putting commercials in those places.
They began doing it the way they do it today in 1996.

Marc Breslow must've been busy with Price & MG to direct this particular week.
tsskiller08 3 years ago
I don't think Breslow directed this version of Card Sharks. I think he only directed the CBS and syndicated versions.

Hmm, that's odd. All full credit rolls I've seen have only had Paul Alter's name on them.

Too bad GSN doesn't respect the announcers' work on game shows anymore - RIP Gene Wood - you were loved by a lot of people!

I'd have to agree, GSN needs to stop credit crunching permanently.

@juan833cheer All networks need to stop credit crunching.
Thunderwing88 1 year ago
It was done like that, now WGN is credit crunching now too.
blockemall 2 years ago
Well @ least WGN America still shows their credits and Production Logos unlike GSN from time to time.
No offence to you though.

@tnawcwvictoria Also Antenna TV doesn't crunch their credits, and don't even do voiceovers - now that's one classy network!
