@Laurence1133 - The debt got returned to the Council and is, as yet, still unpaid. They've tried to enforce the level of repayment but that has been refused.

So, it works in as much as it demonstrates that resistance to bailiffs is fertile rather than futile. This hopefully only highlights the arbitrary fashion in which bailiffs operate, with no regard for legal requirements (let alone lawful ones) in pursuing a third party debt.

This bailiff is clearly a certificated bailiff. A court bailiff wouldn't behave in the way he is and, in any case, they are officers of the court. Certificated bailiffs are not. Equita have a history of non-compliance with their certification. Ask to see his certificate, just to be sure, then report him to the Chief Clerk at your local county court, making it clear that he is a certificated bailiff. If he refuses to produce his certificate, call the police.

The best way of dealing with this idiot is to make a formal complaint against him at your local county court. He is probably a Certificated Bailiff, NOT a Court Bailiff. There is a difference. If the court finds that he is in breach of his certification, it has the power to revoke it. Result? One ex-bailiff looking for alternative employment. If people do this more often, private bailiffs will think twice before abusing their powers.
