  • hey does anyone know if the black and white art style micke and other 30s characters were drawn in is copyrighted or trademarked or patented

  • Wow! I'd have loved to be one of those animators -3

  • when people made good quality work and took time

  • woooow i always wanted to know this

  • So they use a type of tracing paper to animate characters? I never knew that, disney is pretty badass at that type of stuff :D

  • this is good for my daughters reseach paper thanks puntadeleste

  • fuck this is amazing...or was....a lot of work,

  • Hey kids! now a days there's no need to make a stupid art form like a "Cartoon" were story, characters, and inspiration actually matters. You can just CGI everything like the Pixar films! don't ya just love this generation when you watch these kinds of old video of what they put into the making of Snow White.

  • The 48 people who disliked this sucks big fuckin elephant dick.

  • i wonder how much penises they all sublimally made on one scene alone

  • would be nice to have this material in text )) I liked the narrator's way to speak, it is pure language... and I would also like to see all the specific lexis written. who could help me, please? thx in advance!

  • many-many thanks for this video... happy new year!

  • wonderful disney animations are cool

  • hundreds of pretty girls, but no single handsome guy? haha

  • Pretty girls!!!!

  • what a waste of time money and energy. They should have just waited until pc's

  • @vexedrex555 Then there would me no animation coz no one would know the basics ;D

  • i read a book about walt disney, and now im inspired and go to disneyland almost every weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL "here hundreds of PRETTY GIRLS"

  • American tradition.

  • Thumbs up if you could point out more than one of the Nine Old Men in that Animators Credit list?

  • this is actually well cool. i wanna try that! still love them movies to bits <3 never forget walt disney!

  • Good thing there using computers now. Feel sorry for those trees.

  • im assuming a lot of this now is done with computers. its amazing how much effort was put into snow white

  • Happy 110th Birthday Walt Disney! May yo rest in peace.

  • I have always wanted to do voice over work for cartoons!

  • Mind blowing

  • kudos to the pretty ladies!!

  • So Its Harder To Make A Cartoon Than A Movie?

  • @Fyeagass16 depends on the movie, vs quality of animation in an animated feature, but in general, absolutely. 5 minutes of film takes maybe a day, five minutes of traditional animation takes a full studio about month and a half give or take depending on complexity.

  • This shits on any cartoon made now

  • Did anyone else notice at :49 that one of the animators was cy young? Lol. Didn't know he was also an animator at disney xD

  • its been said in one video that it takes around 15-20,000 drawings to make an 10min cartoon movie back in those days i was like WTF how can they draw soo many oops ,,

  • when things were hand made

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if they knew back then that this movie would mark so many childhoods!

  • This is inspirational.

  • Life would of been great back in those days, to bad we grew up in a fukd up generation

  • Anyone can Ink. Might as well pay pretty girls to do it.

  • God forbid they get the ugly girls to do the inking

  • what kind of paper are they using in 2.20 is it tracing? if not could someone tell me what kind it would be a big help because i really want to learn to animate in pencil drawings not computer

  • after watching this video i thought, i wonder how these girls get paid, i wonder how the artists get paid, where does the money come from.

after all movies were like what 20cents back then

  • @TimeSpliTT You're forgetting to account for the inflation of the dollar since then. Thanks to the accursed fractional reserve banking system that the Federal Reserve employs, the dollar has been inflating itself ever since 1913. I think this video was around 1930, which means 20 cents is roughly 3-4 dollars by today's terms.

  • This is the style of animation I will use for MY animation department!

  • That's why animated films were so good--a lot of effort and amazing colors!

  • Back then all this was so hard work, now its all CGI

  • @UndefinedNerd Which is just as hard... if not more..

  • The sound effects people get all the fun. :)

  • plenty of jobs back then. story artists, writers, painters, key animators, in-between animators, cleanup, inkers, cel wipers, sound techs, etc etc

Disney employed thousands back then. That what we need now! less govt jobs and more entrepreneurs like Walt Disney, maybe tax breaks for starting up companies, etc LuL

  • @ashleighxeltentat I couldn't agree more.

  • 6:03 Some pretty pathetic looking Mickey and Minnies!!

  • This is what i call art..., Walt Disney, you are the greatest !

  • With computers, they have become lazy. Yeah! I'm talking to you, punks!

  • 3ds max , maya forever :D

  • wouldn't it be cool if someone devoted enough made something like this all by them selves and with just paint and paper that woukd be cool.

  • @dreamsprayanimation

    don't worry, i'll start today

  • how can 43 people not like this? (Because people these days are too used to the animation crap, thats why!)

  • @maune98 probably feminists upset at the hundreds of pretty girls inking and coloring lol

  • Hey George {Broussard} if you watching this please send a message.

    I now you wont though.

  • @77elvistheking are you also here becuase of George Broussards twitter?

  • i wish i had an animation disc

  • how many pretty girls does it take to make an animation?.........HUNDREDS!!

  • and now it takes like 2 minutes to make one on flash....

  • could you tell me which year is this video ?

  • @jusdemelon0 The cartoon they were working on was Snow White, which was released in 1938, so presumably this was from around the same time.

  • Wow...so that is how it done, its took a lot of time...Now I know what is the diferrence from Old Disney and Present.....Old disney have been put much much hardwork and love ,and today disney they are making it easy thats why we couldnt find the "magic" and "fantasy" on each movie, sad to know that they are not making classics...Damn it,I love HSM etc. But the foundation of disney should never Die..:)

  • Walt Disney was such a pimp..

  • i'd like walt disney to describe me as 'nice but sort of silly'

  • WOOOOOW!! This is crazy! Back then when cartoons were good and actually made!!

  • Thumbs up for After Effects

  • Truley amazing.

  • walt had women ink it, because their hands are more gentle and precise... little facty fact for ya.

  • aaah.... how they use to make good disney movies...

  • "And last but not least.. Is Dopey. He's... Nice, but sorta silly." *sheepish grin*" HAHA So cute!!!

  • impressive (:

  • I guess 43 ugly girls didn't like this.

  • do they still do this?

  • @T3hTroll Yes when they make 2d movies and stuff they still do this. But I think it's more digital painting than free hand painting now. I'm sure water colors are still used but it's more digital than anything now. Hand drawn stuff is pretty much dying out now a days /:

  • @futureanimatior it'd be to intense. i'm pretty sure they're still hand drawn, but they use those touchscreen things

  • @T3hTroll Actually digital is done more than hand drawn. It's just a well commin thing but it may be done in hand drawn at least some of the films. But without a doubt they use more digital today than they used during this age.

  • @T3hTroll Im an animator. Its way easier now. Still very time consuming though. Some people hand draw each frame. Or they draw it with a tablet right into the computer. There they use either the tools in the animation software, or edit each drawing individually in a paint program, to color. Allot of animation software now actually moves the character for you like what 3D animation software does. It's more known to people who use Toon Boom programs. For them it would be call the bone tool.

  • @T3hTroll As for sound, they record the voices into sound editing software and pretty much just cut it up so it matches the animations. And sound effects are easy to get off of certain web sites, as well as background music. I have no uploads yet but im working on animation. Visit my channel and look at my background and profile picture. You'll see that Im pretty much half way there.

  • 6:02 - damn', i'm scared

  • awsome

  • I can't believe how happy I suddenly felt when they were making the sound of the train start moving. :D

I remember it so well from Dumbo.

  • MORE THAN 3 MILL DRAWINGS???

  • This Is Amazing!

  • 4:53 I want to be one of those guys!

  • 43 People never had a childhood :(

  • i feel 'genius' is underselling this

  • A five star video!

  • Ahh the Old Animation Process I love this

  • how many trees were wasted on a movie?

  • @tb049 with how many wasted trees you wiped your ass?

  • @Mio4graphic How do you find that out?

  • @Mio4graphic Funniest comment ever lol

  • Amazing...

  • Walt disney is awsum...

  • lol today we just use 1 computer if we want to hehe... amazing huh?

  • Wow! The Walt Disney Studios putting story before animation! That reminds me of another great animation studio we all know and love (ahem* Pixar)! I love animation! :)

  • Amazing!!! they are trying to create animation very high.

  • Mickey and Minnie Mouse at 6:02?? Are you suuure that's them?? LOL

  • Hats off.. the World Disney.. the starter of Animation Era

  • This was back when the USA was not only one of the world's global superpowers, but also the cartoon creativity capital of the world. Now, it's just the world's only global superpower and the cartoon crapital of the world.

  • well I work in same industry but in 3d, it still requires a lots of passion, but what they have done is out of this world stuff...they are real artists... salutations Animation legends. :)

  • Nowadays, we get satisfied with trollfaces

  • Old times: I call this a true ART!..and CREATIVY!.

Nowadays: I call this true BULLSHIT!..and HORRIBLE!.

I feel pity on kids these days watching 3D things..and forget the old Walt Disney.

    Yea..the World is fucked up.

  • @TheComenterMan Hold on a minute! 3D can ALSO be ART! (or crap, just like some 2D are)

Pixar is amazing!! Their films are fantastic too!

No need to choose between the two (2D and 3D), they both can be great in their own way, and one's success doesn't need to overshadow the other!

    Let's keep them both alive!!

  • @TheComenterMan lol I prefer traditional animation over 3D any day. But many 3D movies nowadays are amazing, admit it. They put in a lot of effort too and they're really creative. It's not easy to produce an animated film anyways (traditional or 3D)

  • wow i thought the colors in snow white were just plain colors....i was wrong...

  • And I thought that animating in flash was hard!

  • 75 years ago and they were using illuminati symbols and shit

  • How incredible! I loved seeing the sounds recorded as well haha. I had no idea Snow White was filmed 75 years ago!!

  • this is art at its 100%

  • and the animation were light years better than a lot of crap made nowadays...

  • This is what is was like to work in the sweatbox pretty girls , union dues.

Sorry but I think a good story makes animation work 2d or 3d

  • here, thousand of pretty girls ... ...

  • I wish people would just finally shut up about how horrible and worthless they think 3d animation is whenever there's a video featuring 2d animation. Everyone knows that 2d came first and those artists made genius works of art, but don't sh-t all over 3d as a scapegoat and act like 3d artists aren't also just as talented and hard working. 3d is not worse or better, just different. Maybe actual Hollywood execs should read all these comments and finally shut you all up by making 2d stuff.

  • Hey Disney!!! Just here to say hello, and how this video isn't in color? See you guys soon.

  • wow, did they keep all that drawings? imagine how much they'll be worth by now =D

  • And the voice actors were....

Oh wait, apparently there were no voice actors. My bad. Totally weren't part of the production of Snoow White at all.

  • Damn. thats all i have to say: Damn.

ha now i know how to make a train noise.

  • I can't believe it... When they're showing the part from 7:03 to 7:23 I was all like "Jesus, they weren't draw all together?! Holy..."

  • the genius of WALT DISNEY ....it was bloody tough to make this kinda picture then

  • 43 people thought cartoons were always made by computers.

  • @xpreshun

    Still not made by computers...

  • Life was a lot better in those days :((

  • Wow I didn`t know Snow White was THAT old. Jesus...

  • americans should be proud

  • Comment removed

  • This is amazing!

  • So many pretty girls! LOL

  • wow, I had no idea it took so many pretty girls to make a animated film.

  • @verstwo2 i know

  • 'And old sourpuss here is Grumpy, the woman hater.'

    HAHAHAHA.

  • HUNDREDS OF PRETTY GIRLS

Damn, those are some high standards, Walt ;)

  • I notice a few grease pencil marks were left on a few frames at the end.

  • Working in animation today would give a whole different perspective to those who have no respect for 3d and where it's come from. 2d isn't being replaced. That's foolish, they just have new ways to go about making them that is more efficient. Besides it keeps it interesting, trying new forms of animation. If animation was still being produced the same way now you wouldn't have as much respect for it because you would have nothing to compare it to.

  • i wish they still made cartoons like this. :( nowadays everything is computer generated.

  • Pretty girls x)

  • This makes me feel guilty to use adobe photoshop for animations.....but hey thats all i have to work with. Might as well make the best of it.

  • Yup, everything for money nowdays. So hard to see someone make something purely for the fun of it or just the ambition to make it good.

Nothing will ever beat the 2D animation and it's sad that not many 2D movies are still made.

  • There are still being made cartoons in 2D, and even some in traditional, but only when it comes to the rough animation part, or else it would be too expensive.

Even so, this is still a very difficult prosess. I believe all real 2D animators deserves credit.

In my opinion, inking the most boring part.

  • ""Snow White" is as exciting as a Western, as funny as a haywire comedy. It comebines the classic idiom of folklore drama with rollicking comic-strip humor. a combination of Hollywood, the Grimm Brothers, and the sad, searching fantasies of universal childhood, it is an authentic masterpiece, to be shown in theatres and beloved by generations long after."

    Indeed!

  • I wanna go to Dwarf Land!

  • Ah... This is what i've wanting to know since i was young.. aha

Ah... I wish Disney made more movies like this rather than like... 3D and stuff ah

  • *Sniff* All the beauty of traditional hand drawn animation is being layed to waste in place of 3D animation, just because the companies can churn the films out faster in 3D and get lots of money. Tangled would have been just as good, if not better, in 2D. It makes me wish I was born in the "Golden Days" of animation :(

  • @Melazee01 There are still many making 2d animation, I like to believe it will make a comeback :]

  • R there any links for studios that make animated shows in 2011? like show how to make animation come to life from the same way like walt disney :)

  • where did you get this

  • ..Where are all the sweaty Koreans?

  • Oh my god ! It is so hard to make a cartoon

  • This featurette will convince the kids of today that animated cartoons are 100% fake if they're not painted on transparent cels. It also proves that the backgrounds are 100% realistic if they're painted with watercolor on paper.

  • technically the first feature lenght animation was an argentinian cutout cartoon that it is now lost in a fire... Any clue about who started it mr. Disney?

  • @Recedebo Well, Snow White was the first animated feature using traditional hand-drawn animation. Eleven years earlier, Germany had "The Adventures of Prince Achmed," which used black cardboard cut-outs, called "silhouette animation," a form of stop-motion.

  • walt looked like mickey one of my favorite characters from back in the days and if the mickey that was at the premier of snow white was at Disneyland when i was 4 i would have poop in my pants ,and can the now "90" year old "pretty girls" say computers and maya ,photoshop or any other animation program because that was a "frog load" of work but i am very glad they did it! !

  • wow this makes me wanna cry ! this is the first cartoon i have ever sow and i swear its the best <3

  • classics...

  • this documentary looked like hell on earth for the 'happy workers.' i can't imagine what the real thing was like.

  • @illuminatioracle It was hard work, especially when trying to please a perfectionist like Walt, but they loved what they were doing. From what i've heard, Disney's new hand drawing department is a miserable place to work in--it's all controlled by executives, the animators have no control over their work, there are lots of restrictions on drawing, especially when it comes to expressions and designs, etc.

  • i like the sound making part

  • its amazing what people can do with a blank peice of paper and a pencil

  • waw that takes dedication to work on a film for that long

  • more than 3 mil paintings! i never believe they actually draw cartoons frame by frame.

  • "...air conditioned throughout..."

I just love the amount of unnecessary information :D

  • I'm really glad they hired all those pretty girls--it's been scientifically documented that how attractive a girl is can affect the quality of the animation.

  • @METAPHOR1232

Don't worry, nobody has... It's too exausting.

  • what a pain in the ass!!!!!!
