  • I forget the coach for carolina at this time but he said doug weight has never throwin a hit in his life and the time he does he knocks out my rising star. No one feels more bad then weight. But sutter tried to reach for the puck and weight just finished his check.

  • Looked clean to me, why go after a guy for a clean hit?

  • @LS6Z28 You turn around after playing the puck to see your teammate face down on the ice. Your first thought? Retribution.

  • @BoxerTwoZero It was a clean hit fuck face.

  • its the players responsibility to keep himself out of harms way. its like blaming a train for someone walking in front of it. keep your head up rookie.

  • Not intending to hit the head doesn't mean there should be no penalty.

The head contact rule is there to prevent broken necks and severe head trauma. The checking player has the obligation to make checks that do not violate the rule. If they misjudge and make head contact, they have still violated the rule.

It's rather like firing a gun into the air for fun and the falling bullet killing someone. Lack of intent to kill won't cancel out the negligent homicide charge, will it?

  • ouch!

  • dumbass shouldnt have reached for it. thats sutters dumb ass fault

  • mother fucker

  • good hit but couldve gotten hit to the head.

  • @TheChasingsquirrels this was before the hit to the head rule.

  • Welcome to the NHL

  • Brandon Sutter had possession of the puck, and had his head down. They teach this stuff in peewee and bantam.

Hate to see anyone get hurt though - even on a clean play.

  • @AEMoreira81 he didnt have possesion? he went to chip the puck

  • fucking hate how every big open ice hit in the nhl these days is considered a dirty hit and results in a brawl or fight afterwards, and a penalty and a fine.

  • clean hit

These players need to keep there heads up

Today's NHL is like a high price scrimmage

  • Yees!!!!! Cheeeck!!!!!

  • @Kahzarella total class? wieght and guerin were on the spotlight when the american olympic team loose and and make some big damage in their hotel room...that make the news paper at the time

  • @fuckerz9 I remember this, wish there was a link to a video - I remember Roenick being interviewed.

  • In all fairness, if he hadn't reached out at the last second..

  • I think Sutter would be offended if he heard that dude call his play, "sparkling"....

  • damn that's a big hit but you know what? head down, neutral ice, big players, he was guaranteed to get fucked up.

  • The announcers r true... It's cheap cuz it's to the head but weight wasn't aiming at cheap shotting his ass... U can tell cuz he lead with his shoulder... Suiter shud kno better then that anyway and it's both clean AND dirty in my book... Tons of u shud learn about hockey... God

  • Sutter was going for the puck, and Weight should have done the same thing, but instead he just destroyed him. Clean hit my ass. All dumbfucks who likes those hits and dont know a shit about hockey should go watch football or the WWE circus. Hockey is a finesse sport first, not a destruction derby contest , is it too hard to understand ? I guess so.

  • was weight suspended?

  • @cybelle345 Not necessarily. If you and another guy are going for the puck and you know he is gonna get there before you, you do what ever you can to make him not get it. Weight did what any other physical player would have done. Sutters big mistake was not looking up and stretching his body out to get the puck. If you would have listened to one of the announcers, he said that if sutter didnt do what he did, it would have been a shoulder to shoulder hit. That was a clean hit. No doubt about it.

  • if his heads down like that theirs no way to hit him without hitting the head

  • It is Sutters fault. Dont skate with ya mutherfucking head down. And dont put yourself in a vulnerable position.

  • Comment removed

  • @sauld420 It was clean hit but you are mother fucker itself i think.

You talk with nasty way in my book.

Sometimes those players just puts himself to low position which is dangerous but i understand those players.

They are battling so hard that they forgets most important thing in physical play.

Don't be asshole for those players who keeps his head down.

Its all accident and shouldnt doom those player.s

  • @MrJuha82

Well sorry for hurting your sensitive little feelings, but im not the dumbass who skates around with his head down. They all know the risks when they step on the ice believe me. You can get paralyzed or even die on a hockey rink. Protect yourself at all times. If you dont, you're fucking stupid. And this is what will happen to you.

  • @sauld420 nah u didnt hurt my soul (:

you are right, should to keep the head up.

  • This happens occassionally. Not Sutters fault. Not Weights fault. Just a bad play. at the speed this happens it is hard to react. I'd give a 4:00 penalty with no suspension...i dunno though its tough.

  • Thank God there are some smart people out there unlike these idiot commentators. Unfortunatley next year hits like this are gonna result in major penalties and suspensions. This means that the NHL is saying that "it is fine to have your head down because nothing bad is going to happen to you. In fact you'll probably get a break away out of it.."

  • WELCOME TO THE BIG LEAGUE BRANDON

  • Sutter gambled and lost. Would have been shoulder-to-shoulder if Sutter had not reached for the puck. He saw Weight coming unlike the recent Savard/Booth hits. Those were targeted head-shots.

  • Sutter is not at fault, Weight is not at fault, it's a good hit gone wrong. That was a hockey play. Unfortunate what happened, but it's not Sutter's fault by any means for having his head down.

  • Looks like Moore did on Naslund, in 2004.. We all know the end of that history.

  • clean hit, no question. sutter leanred from it and should thank weight for doing it. i want my son to get leveled, get up and say "fuck me, im never looking down again". this is y i love hockey, greats can skate through what ever and know the puck is on the tape of their stick. I LOVE THIS GAME. GO CANADA GO!

  • It literally makes me a little sick how full-of-politically-correct-shit these fucking drama-queen commentators are.

    Circling the drain.

  • clean hit .

hockey is violent , dont like it go watch golf

  • well i think thats taco bell just isnt real mexican food its stoner food

  • goodnight

  • hahaha, notice gleason smacks him on the head when hes getting off?

    ha that's intelligent

  • just a head rub nothing more lol

  • funny thing is brandon sutter is doing good this year for an otherwise terrible hurricanes team. this hit must have knocked some sense into him lol

  • NHL is for men. Not for boys.

Sadly this doesn´t seem to carry over to the commentating booth.

  • clean hit

sutter's fault for putting his head down

  • did anyone kick the shit out of weight

  • nice hit. sutter's fault he got hurt. doug weigh didnt want to hurt him. weights a veteran and he knows better. he even said that in an interview. so enough bullshit with people saying it was a cheapshot or dirty hit

  • If you watch hockey than be ready for hits like this one...cuz I mean this is hockey...it was Sutters fault cuz he was looking down....if you don't like hits or fights than don't watch hockey

  • I'm sorry, but I don't have much symphathy for Sutter on this play.

What the hell is he thinking by leaning way forward like that at the last second? Weight was lining him up for a big clean hit in the open ice and Sutter puts himself in the most vulnerable of positions at the last possible second. What does he expect to happen?

  • Whether its a clean hit or a dirty hit, any type of hit to the head should be worth a suspension. Period.

Think of how many NHL players have gotten concussions so far this season. You probably won't remember all of their names.

  • why don't you just make hockey a non contact sport?

that way we don't create a silly double standard on what a good hit and a bad hit is. nobody screamed when lindros got nailed by stevens, but now everybody is up in arms over sutter?

lame. this is why hockey sucks.

  • we dont take hitting out because its not for pussys. u dont like it dont waste ur time watching the videos

  • Okay this is why women are not NHL commissioners, no offence. Hockey has ALWAYS been like this, but the difference now days people are huge wimps and realisticly Sutter should not have reached out like that. He has himself to blame for the high hit because he BENT DOWN. Honestly.

  • how about pile driving a defenses face into the boards from behind. (Iginla on Souray). That shit is far more dangerous then hits to the head. But no, niggy is a "good sports man", bullshit... NHL has always been inconsistent and will stay that way, there will always be cheap shots.

  • @choseGODfirst

next time either chose a different screen name or use a term other than "niggy". Your comment was uncalled for and definately not a way of "choosing God first."

  • Serious? dude it was a typo obviously. duh i meant "iggy". I also posted that 2 months ago, whats the point of replying...

  • Doug Weight is a great player and he never want to hurt anyone,he like played in NHL when Sutter were on kindergarden...but that's kinda ugly hit, but it was a accident...

  • How could you expect Weight not to hit him in his head? Sutter bent down at the last second and his head was the exact same height as Weight's shoulder. Did you want Weight to bend down a little extra to hit him in his chest? Thats unreasonable. Its a clean hit. Sutter just made a bad move and left himself vulnerable to Weight.

  • agreed, if a player leans into it, than i think that we shouldnt suspend them.

  • lol fail

  • welcome to the show, rookie.

  • I remember watching this game and all eyes were on Sutter. But he just got caught off guard having his head down. Even as a 'canes fan the hit is clean(I think). It's the situation that makes you cover your mouth, eyes, and ears. The Carolina commentary is right though; Doug Weight is a classy player who had no real intentions of injuring Brandon Sutter.

  • iamcanad1an ur an idiot. that hit was great sutter put his head down and payed the price .GREAT HIT. it dosent matter if ur a veteran or a rookie take the hit dont be a bitch

  • theres no call to be made, get ur head up in the neutral zone meat

  • there will always be a debate on if the hit was clean or not ..it just depends on who u r..but either way sutter put himself in such a horrible position

  • Good call, you think if you are good enough to make the NHL, you would be smart enough to keep your head up at center ice. These commentators should go wash their pussies

  • i'd say but from one angle i dont thnk his head was down he was just looking at the puck

    but im not that sureee

  • Homers thats why!! High hit my ass!!! Sutters head was down, low, and reaching give me a fing break.

  • doug felt pretty bad...i interviewed him shortly after and he was almost in tears.

  • ya i was going to interview him after the game too but it ended at 10:30 and i had an appointment with jesus at 10:15

  • @Hebbzy19 You interviewed Doug...... Yeah right :)))

  • @Hebbzy19 bertuzzi cries int he press conference too

  • Completely legal hit. Keep your head up kid, this ain't juniors.

  • brandon did terrible this season hope he does better next year

  • clean, a kid not payin attention, playin with the big boys...come on Dougie's just playin his game, sorry Brandon ....WELCOME TO NHL!!!!

  • @siksika74 exactly. It's a mistake that a lot of rookies will have to learn from. Luckily Sutter is a tough kid. Definitely wasn't a malicious hit.

  • Holy smoke!

You just can't lower your head, especially if you see an opponent approaching.

  • It´s Darwin mini-Award all the way.

You´re dumb enough to do dumb stuff - eventually you´ll be hit by a truck.

    Great hit.

  • Forget legal or not....the Sutter looked at Weight, and made a bad choice in trying to advance the puck by lowering his head and reaching for the puck to dump it in.

Weight did not hit Sutter high, Sutter lowered his head.

I hope Sutter recovered fully, but honestly people, Sutter knows better. He took a risk trying to beat Weight, and it failed.

  • Comment removed

  • It was legal his head was down and weight took advantage of it

  • what a hard hit. i think it was legal but it was over the shoulder

  • -It was definitly a legal hit, but you guys are assholes insulting him.

The Sutter family has a rich nhl history and is g-oing to be for the years to come.

-Brandon Sutter didnt mean to lower his head for the .2 seconds when he got hit. its not sutters fault and its not weights fault.

-Sutter just had back luck, and Weight is not a cheap ass hole because he won the cup with the canes in '06.

-Stop being assholes and insulting Sutter, we all agree it was legal.

  • it is a legal hit, but he had all the time in the world to play the puck instead, he's just looking to injure people.

  • its hockey, obviously a big forward such as Weight will be looking for the hit, Do you know who Weight is? He is a very respectable player. He doesn't look to hurt people that is just stupid. It taught the kid not to put your head down and reach out with one hand when your in a vulnerable position in center ice

  • god i miss weight.

all hemsky does is skate around in circes, penner is the world's biggest pussycat, and the rest are smurfs

  • lol

  • heads up kid

  • THIS HIT WAS LEGAL AS IT GETS! Sutter was a dumbass and he put his head down. It was his opwn fault.

  • Absolutely. Sorry bout your damn luck Sutter.

  • Stupid bitch no one messes with a Sutter!!!!

  • sutters the stupid one, he got caught with his head down... weight's hit was 100% legal

  • This hit is as clean as it gets. Weight lowers his should and puts it under Sutter's chin. Yeah the hit was high and above the shoulders, but you're aloud to hit someone to the head with your shoulder. That is NOT penalty, and I'm not saying Sutter as a player and person deserves this, but any player playing with their head down deserves a good hit like this. It's what you get for playing with your head down, and therefore you probably learn your lesson. GREAT HIT!

  • beauty hit...and clean

  • I'm impressed with the Carolina broadcast team. They didn't get all stupid and douchey like a lot of tandems do in this situation. The hit was as clean as could be according to the rules currently in place. If the NHL wants to regulate hits to the head then by all means...change the rules. You mighty not like this hit but when held up to the rules in place today this hit was PERFECT.

  • oh baby did sutter ever get buried

clean as it can get 2

  • Why does TSN use this to condemn head shots, it is the fucking cleanest hit of all time, and if theres one thing out of everything ever created the the universe that i just can't handle it is the pussiness of the fucktards who think this needs to be out of the game

  • HOLY SHIT. thats bomb. dont skate with your head down kiddies

  • this is the hardest hit I ever seen

  • you clearly dont watch that much hockey then

  • haha! I dont watch hockey.

  • Doug Weight is not the kind of person who would do that on purpose, Sutter was doing his job by going after the puck and its unfortunate that it had to end like that.

  • that was a very clean hit. Sutter just had his head down. Nice hit Weight. Ovechkin RULES!

  • I don't know... I'm pretty sure Dougy tried his best to keep his body low. Sutter was crouched way down. It's a tragic result. But you either have to have a no hitting rule or you have to let this stuff happen. You can't penalize someone because the other guy bends way over before getting hit. God bless Sutter, though-- what a great kid.

  • thats horrible

  • it clearly wasnt weight's fault cuz sutter had his head down. Yea maybe weight could have avoided the hit but im sure sutter knew he was comming at him and was just trying to race to the puck cuz had he made it by he would have been on a breakaway. Also its the players responsibility to be aware of the puck, sticks and other players. Now if people think that you should hit a person who has their head down, every skater will be skating with their heads down.

  • Thats what happens when you dont keep your fucking head up.

  • What ever he tryed to hit him he knew it was gonna be a high hit..close to the head and he did it to a rookie..fucking faggot..he hit someone else the other night in a game another high hit right to the head

  • I was at this game, I had the best view, and I saw Weight's face after the hit. He looked as though he felt pretty bad.

  • no thats BS

  • No its not BoringStuff

  • He didn't try to hit his head. How low can he bend to make the hit?

  • no teethed canadians taking there anger out, epic fails

  • Classy.

  • F*** You guys!

brandon sutter was just doin his job and so was weight it didnt mean to happen.

though im a huge carolina fan weight didnt mean to do it.

    but it was a penalty.

and you guys who hate sutter i would like to see you guys take a blow to the head tht hard.

he lost his memory and came back.

how bout you try to do it.

  • Wow chill yourself

  • weight probably coulda just grabbed the puck... and i think thats what sutter thought he was gonna do..

oh well... keep your head up

  • Welcome to the NHL, keep your head up.

  • K0!

  • Thats for hitting cheraponov, stupid faggit

  • maybe if cherapanov didnt slew foot sutter, sutter wouldnt have cranked him

    rip.

  • that was an AWESOME hit!

  • Weight's awesome get rid of Guerin and give the C to Dougie

  • its a clean hit ,BUT, to be sportsmanly, head shots should try to be avoided, that could have been a costly injury

  • wtf... they were sayin he hit him too high, but how can they say that when sutter is bent over reaching for the puck, no way was that weights fault

  • finally someone who agrees that when their head is down, run them fucking over! good for you suonvieri! :P

  • Please its hes folt if he keeps hes head down if they cant hit people with their head down well just put your head down and skate to the goal lol ... am i right iam right i created right shut the fuck and dont fight

  • weight's been nailed a few times as an oiler crossing the railroad tracks with his head down.

just teaching the kid the same lessons he learned, kept it clean as well

  • thats daedly

  • thats a clean hit... hes supposed to be a tough canadian kid... just a rookie mistake and he should learn his lesson

  • If he pulls this bs then he sucks, this isn't promising at all

  • what bs? he got railed, if you play hockey long enough eventually its gonna happen.

  • it the same what sutter have done with alexej cherepanov

  • oh please why he is crying thats ice hockey

  • he was fucking knock out cold he wasn"t cryin so shut the fuck up!

  • Dougie FTW

  • nearly the exact same hit as Naslund/Moore

totally clean, sutter shouldnt have reached for the puck, just look at the naslund hit, he was reaching too.

only difference is doug weight walks away sans broken neck

  • clean hit, thats hockey, dont like it, dont play it

  • best comment ive seen

  • Hey, clena hit, but hope someone tunes the crap out of Weight and all of his teammates eah time they are vunerable...and they will be.

  • dougy weight would never hurt another player on purpose.

  • That's hockey. Keep your head up. Weight never jumped or put his elbow out. A clean hit. It's just unfortunate that Sutter put his head down at the last minute.

  • The hit was brutal, but not illegal. Sutter needs to keep his head up and not stick it out there to be taken off by a defensive play. Weight played the body, but the position that Sutter took while reaching for the puck placed his head and shoulders in Weight's path.

  • Maybe not he'll keep his head up and realize he's playing hockey and he's not a ballerina...

One of the first things you learn in Pee-Wee hockey is keep your head up. I was caught with my head down and guess what? I learned to keep it up after having my bell rung...

If you don't know that in the NHL...even the new pansy ass NHL where even a tiny tug on the arm is a hold...you don't belong there.

  • clean hit..

  • haha coool xD killing intention mayb ? xD

  • Thats what you get for hitting cherepanov!!!

  • theres no reason people should be getting mad and think this is a cheap hit, we all kno that if he wouldve got right up than everybody would be sayin how great of a hit it was, stop bitchin cause someone got hurt from a clean hit, its hockey

  • people need to stop bitching, it was a clean hit and people need to get their head outa the gutter and realise hockey is a contact sport where people get hurt

  • Totally legal hit, only person not doing his job is Sutter, holy crap keep your head up!! They teach you this starting at age 5 give me a break.

  • CLEAN HIT!!! It's Hockey, it's dangerous, don't watch and don't play if you can't handle the violence. The guy had his head down coming through the middle, even Gretzky would've smashed this rookie with head down like that. His face was waist high when contact was made, not a cheap shot in the slightest. All this PC crap creeping its way into sports is garbage.

  • damn kid you got KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT!!!!!

btw your dad coaches my favorite team

  • hahahhahahaha. This is a nice hit :P

  • Clean hit. Period.

  • Well, when you have your head down and you lower your body to shoulder level with your head extended out in front of you, you can't complain about getting hit like that.

Also, I love how Gleason pats Sutter on the head after the guy clearly got his head hit.

  • That looks like what Steve Moore did to Naslund. CHEAP SHOT!!! TO THE HEAD.

  • Maybe Sutter should keep his head up this was such a clean hit, Weight has done everything possible now. And that hit in the Montreal game was so dirty you gotta let up in that zone. P.S. (these announcers are fucking morons get rid of them!!)

  • How the fuck does Kostpolous from Montreal get suspended when this prick nearly killed Sutter and got nothing? Colon Campbell is as pathetic as Gary Buttman

  • Do you even play hockey? That was the biggest, cleanest hit I've seen in a long time, and I hate the Islanders.

  • this is for the guy named nahlsy below. you're an idiot if you can't tell the difference between an awesome hit and a stupid hit. boarding is very serious... you are stupid and don't deserve to ever be on the ice!!! so stay off!!!

  • I can tell the difference, much as I can tell the difference between a hockey player (myself) and a moron that's never been on the ice (you). Run along jr, this is for hockey fans only.

  • look douche bag... just cuz you are from canada doesn't make you a hockey player. get a green card, come to a real country and meet me on the ice... i'll show you how we deal with idiots like you where i come from... unless of course you're afraid your hip can't take the pressure... old man!!!

  • *pats the deluded fool on the head* Run along jr. Name calling, internet tough guy acts and pretending you know anything about the game, won't make up for the obvious fact that you are completely clueless based upon your expressed ignorance. Go back to playing your video games and pretend you're a star now.

  • once again you've said nothing that has to do with hockey... you don't know shit... do really think that hit on van ryne was legal... you are obviously the delusional one here. weight was committed to the hit and sutter made a rookie mistake and put his head down... its that simple. why don't you take a few minutes from your busy life and learn a little bit about your "national pastime!" read a fucking rule book or something... or perhaps play the game instead of watching youtube clips all day

  • Stick to your videos games kid, you know NOTHING about hockey. Weight teed the kid up, ignored the puk completely, saw he had a blind side shot on him and he targeted his head and destroyed him with a brutal cheap shot. Kostopoulos was preparing a shoulder to shoulder hit and Van Ryn tried to fake him out, turned away from the hit and got hurt because he screwed up. Don't respond to me anymore, you're not worthy of discussing things with a hockey expert.

  • play the sport and quit watching youtube clips... you're obviously a loser and not a hockey player. as far as teeing the player up... i would agree with you except for the fact that sutter technically had the puck and weight went for it with his stick. its fucking hockey... shit happens get over yourself. you obviously are dumb as shit... but i do hope (for your own sake) that mr. hockey expert gets a lot of poon... its sounds to me like you would rather receive a lot of dick
