abuses in the system killed nummi. i've seen those fake loa's one of them i knew personally in 2005 the guy pretended his neck hurt and collected disability, of course i can't prove it but i knew that guy.
but the other killer is the horrendous cost of health care, each family of 3 is paid to kieser some $1,600 PER MONTH. so nummi wants employee contribution but union refused.
no company paying 100% health care can survive in northern california. bad health care is bad for the economy.
The closure at Nummi will effect 5,000 employess at the plant alone. If you count all the parts suppliers, the number is over 25,000. My freind works @ Kaiser Permanente in Fremont, and he said they will lose many of those workers from Nummi, because that's where they received their healthcare.

What killed Nummi is the cost to operate the plant
Out of 4600 workers , over 900 were on LOA and modified work a Lot of them were playing the system.
The company had to hire a massive
amount of temp. workers to cover this
No company is going to put up with this
for long in a downturn. 960 dollars a week to sit on your ass!
I also belong to a union and I see this at our company, the union protects them

Its sad that it costs so much to do business in California and the bay area .
In an economic downturn the employees
can't compete with the rest of the country
and the world as far as benefits and pay
Toyota has been telling its Nummi workers for years they needed to be more competitive with the rest of the company to keep the plant open
Hopefully we can get the Oakland A's
to move to Fremont now ( that will help
some of the small business in the area)
