  • Elaine sings in straight tone on all the high notes which makes me feel her "working" to get there. Patti is my ultimate Evita but I give huge respect to any woman who can sing that 6-8 times a week.

  • WOW Nobody can touch Elaine!! I fell in love with her from CHESS. After I saw Madonnas EVITA I thought surely there has GOT to be a better version of this remarkable piece of Music! I thught Pattis was the definative version...& now I just dont know...because heres my little Florence Vassey wantin to get all Becall'd up & I'm in love again! So PATTI can BELT who cares? so what! So could Ethel Merman Kate Smith & Susans Boyle!

  • I think Patti and Elaine are both such incredible performers and this role was amazing from both of them. But, on a matter of personal taste, I like Elaine's version better because it has more levels and it makes the song more interesting.

  • I enjoy both Patti and Elaine's versions, but Elaine's is my favorite. She has this silvery quality to her voice that is just so clear and gorgeous. But Patti has that power going for her. They're both so different, but I'm a sucker for this version.

  • @EZYCHEESY Will you just get AIDS and die already?

  • IF Elaine were to do Evita after her voice got stronger with age she would've been the perfect Evita especially if she would've ever gotten the chance to perform this phenomenal role with the rewritten orchestrations that La Lupone got to :)

  • No one beats Patti LuPone!!

  • I like Elaine and Patti. They both had totally different takes on the character, so they gave different performances. Their actors and different actors do different things.

  • Well, it's the first time I've heard Miss Paige sing "Rainbow High". There's something to be said for her voice. It's nice. But, with this particular song, Patti LuPone delivers a stronger performance. Neither of these talented singers were having an easy time of it, with the songs demanding so much of their voices. Patti has been quoted as saying that ALW must hate women if he makes such unreal vocal demands on his Evitas.

  • idk i really am not feelin this at ALL, it just doesnt have that Lupone GUT to it.

  • I love Elaine's diction, she's so clear and powerful. She has a youthful note in her voice that has never disappeared which keeps her very unique in my opinion.

  • Elaine Paige was the definate best!

  • As well as the sublime EP and the fabulous David Essex, you will also hear on this recording Siobhan McCarthy as the Mistress, and Nigel Planer, Mark Ryan, Jo Cameron Brown and Myra Sands ..........What a wonderful ensemble piece. Does anyone have any material of the South Bank show about Hal Prince's rehearsals of this brilliant, ground-breaking production?

  • Thanks so much for uploading! Elaine is the gold standard for this role.

  • @multisockmonkey No worries and yeah she is, Patti Lupone is too full on, some people say Evita should be played that way but not that much, Elaine all the way for me.

  • Elaine Paige is still the best Evita of all time. I have no idea why people like Patti LuPone's version at all.

  • I agree completely. I don't like the sound of Patti's voice.

  • Love this.

  • Do you have the whole album?

Please continue to upload! I can't find it anywhere.

  • I have and i will but not today as i'm busy.
