  • The sound effects are horrible!

  • where you get them? the game

  • Wow. Spoken Dialogue... strange for the 16 bit era

  • The famicom one runs smoother and has better sound and control

  • What is this version for, snes?

  • @tokinblckgie Did you, by any chance, read the title of the video? And have you heard of Google?

  • this game has shity sound effects for a pce cd rom game

  • i've always prefered this version over the famicom version in my opinion the pce cd blows the famicom away damn the pc engine was ahead of it's time

  • New Nekketsu GAME! /watch?v=dPKqRmw6POQ

  • Has there ever been a translation done for this?

  • I like the music a lot more in the NES version.

  • i think what we all need to understand is that this gameplay like others on pce prove the systems abilities now if the ports of sega arcade games for example where sh*t then its the software companies doing not this great piece of hardwares fault.

  • The Arcade Card ports were sh*t, mate. And comparing games side by side such as MD Golden Axe vs PCE, MD Strider vs PCE and SNES Parodious vs PCE, the graphically/sonically better version is almost always NOT the PCE!!

Anyway, I think it's testament to the machine's ability that an 8-bit console could compete with the 16-bit consoles. I'm no fanboy of any machine --- I'm just being objective.

  • @crazyteknohed The bits really don't figure into the equation at all. Has much more to do with the hardware sprite support, the sound chip etc. The PCE did support more colors on-screen than the MD. It couldn't push as many sprites at once, but it supported larger sprites etc.

  • The eating sprites in this version are far superior compared to those from the nes and gba.

  • There is the GBA version too. I think a lot of people don't know about that though.

  • Comment removed

  • Whoops, disregard my last comment, I misread ^_^;

  • Wow, 16 bit River City Ransom. The sound is amazing.

  • Sorry to be pedantic mate but the PC Engine is an 8-bit machine.

  • but the output is 16-bit. and to all shame of most "real" 16-bitter, in many cases even superior!!

  • Really? But what does that mean?

  • The whole "PCE is actually 8 bit" routine is way past its prime. The processor is 8 bit, but that doesn't mean anything and the proof is in the games. The bit wars were never really based on truth or reality.

  • I agree and, from a technical standpoint, most HuCard games fall short of anything the Megadrive and SNES could produce, never mind what the Neo Geo was capable of.

Some CD games such as Dracula X and Lords of Thunder were up to the same technical standard as 16-bit console games but these were the exception rather than the rule. That is not to diminish the capabilities of the machine -- considering it was released two years prior to the Megadrive in Japan it was clearly very adept hardware.

  • Really? I don't think you've seen many PC Engine games then, because they were up to, if not better , than their "16 bit" counterparts. If you do side by side comparisons the PCE stands toe to toe to the others, if not more.

And speaking of the Neo Geo: the PCE Arcade Card produced some near perfect conversions of the Neo Geo fighters, certainly better than the Mega Drive or SNES ports.

  • Bleh, the beefy smacks on the NES version trump these IMO. I miss the downed character sound, too.

  • if kunio be in smash aargh!!! =(

  • Virtual console plz Hudson and Nintendo.

  • River City Ransom kicks ass on any platform.

  • This brings back helly good memories. I can only say this for not finding it, sooner.

    "BARF"

  • Good music, bad sound effects.=\

  • nes had better sound effects ;) but of course music and graphics was worst ;/

  • I Thought the music and SFX on the NES was fine for it's time.

  • I didn't said that are bad, are just worst compared to TurboGraphx-16 but i still prefer nes sound effects are better

  • Yeah, the nes fx were the best. I loved all games from the nekketsu series. Especially the football and hockey games.

  • Woaw, this is awesome. I never knew this version of the game existed. River City Ransom is a great game!

  • That game was popular enough in Japan to have multiple versions on many systems including Japanese computers.

  • The Kunio series is legendary, mostly for being the series that introduced the beat-em-up to the arcades with Hot-blooded tough guy Kunio or as we knew it here, Renegade, it also launched double dragon (The dragon twins in this game were prototypes for the twins in that series)

  • i <3 Kunio-kun X-D

  • that's some sick CD music sounds:P

  • Agreed, I have the MP3's from the game and they're really sweet.

  • The fight with Moose kinda reminds me of the RCR fight videos I made when I put in speech when the bosses were talking.

  • If it isn't too much trouble, can you get a video of a fight with the Hattori Double Dragon twins (a.k.a. Randy and Andy)? I'd like to hear how the Double Dragon theme sounds like in this version.

  • Haha, had the CD stuffed up in an wardrobe. Just got a PC-E emulator and finished it. Sounds sucks big time.

  • can i dl this game? someone please help me

  • no u cant

  • i think i'll play that on mute...

  • The music isn't that bad IMO, but the sound effects are awful.

  • The graphics were nice, and the voice samples are a nice touch, but THEY F*CKED THE MUSIC UP!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO-------!!

  • The music was a little fucked up, but far from the worst problem. The biggest problem was the sounds when you were kicking and hitting and when the enemies fainted.. that sounded just frickin annoying! But yeah, liked the voice samples :P

  • Hehehe cute. It took a PC engine to make the coins gold...

  • Hello.I couldn't find this PC Engine roms:

    - Nekketsu Koukou Dodgeball Bu: CD Soccer Hen

    - Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundoukai

    - Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari

    And I couldn't X68000 emulator and

X68000 Kunio Kun roms.Where can I find they?

    Could you reply me?

  • Wow, the cheap SoundCanvas CD music totally butchered the original awesome soundrack. They should have used a real band, or a better synth.

  • I may have goofed on my earlier reply. "Jocks" are Numaoka and Horyo are "Internationals". Found it on an Angelfire website.

  • What are the ORIGINAL names of the other gangs? I already know Generic Dudes (Senridai), Frat Guys (Sakajuku) and Jocks (Horyu). I know the Zombies are called Hyper Guard. Can you clue me in?

  • Whats this for? Super CDROM 2 or Cdrom?

  • Too bad you can't pick up the cat and use it as a weapon.

  • Poor Sawaguchi(Moose) Not only is he stuck as a chump, he also has a gay voice.

  • They gave him a much manlier voice in the Undokai game. But he's pretty much Nishimura and Kumada's (Rocko and Ted respectively) punching bag.

Nonetheless, Sawaguchi remains my favorite Kuniokun character.

  • Shweet.

  • Now we need to see the X86000 version up here.

  • I am big fan of Kunio games! Thanks for uploading this video, i have never seen pc-engine version of the game in action.

Could you make video where you show the final bosses?

  • lol, they always get Sawaguchi's hair color wrong.

Also I've never actually seen this game in action, very nice.

  • this version looks sweet

althought it seems like theres not as many enemies

  • I thought I had bought this when I was in Japan this past Summer--but when I got home I found it was just Survival Kids. OH well. The quest continues!

  • Good luck, and be prepared to shell out a lotta dough -- I paid around $150 for my copy.

  • You should have tried to kick the enemies down the pit.

    Shame on you.

  • I didn't know there was a pc engine for this game... Awesome.

  • Wow. A PC Version, with voice acting? Dude, that is freakin' sweet. I wonder what Slick sounds like when you fight him?

  • Cool. I didn't know RCR was also on the PCE. Awesome!

  • Sweet RCR For the PC Engine good stuff and its good to see some more fanfuckingtastic videos done by you Medelus.
