  • its sad, how they never knew when the bomb blew, it was allready too late.

  • That little boy sure was loving that woman rubbing that stuff on him like that... O.O

  • If you're close enough to see the flash, you're already dead.

  • Newspaper VS Atomic Bomb good one

  • It makes a lot of sense for the procedure, but too bad it would have never made a difference.

  • Wow, this is VERY reminiscent of its implementation used in Closure. Very emotional and fitting too, well done!

  • KEWL! But My version is Funnier..LOL..

  • If duck and covering can save us from a nuclear bomb, why cant we do that with war???

  • Duck and get vaporized

  • Clearly those in Hiroshima & Nagasaki did not know how to duck & cover

  • Nicely done

  • Since we live in a world where Pakistan and North Korea have nuclear weapons, It would really show Obama's stupidity if this was aired on the news today. I can just imagine Obama sitting in the Oval Office believing every word and image of this video. And saying "Now remember folks Duck and Cover".

  • @RevolutionRebellion How would it show Obama's stupidity if a news organisation played this? And why would Obama believe this?

Just seems like a really dumb comment.

  • This vid works because it's pretty much what Trent did with Closure.

  • Well done, perfect combination of audio and visual.

    5STARS

  • Really awesome. Amazing job!

  • Imagine the fun you could have had with a strobe light in the 60's!!! :)

  • Nuclear testings in the '50s were already creepy. (Such as The Hills Have Eyes) But this video with NIN's A Warm Place...chills.

  • Fucking genius <3

  • I used to find this educational video kind of amusing...

  • How come in this emotional song every one writes like a smart ass but how come on the original vid every one just says "how stupid"

    So funny!

  • I love the feel of the video with this song. It perfectly gives that terrible feeling of our complete retardation. ;)

  • They would all be turned to dust.

  • scary actually but the song makes it seem so surreal.

  • God, this is so disturbing. I thinks it's made worse by the fact that this was aimed at kids.

  • In war there is no right only who is left. - can't remember name

  • cool!

  • atomic bombs scare me. even more than clowns

  • Atomic bombs and clowns do the same thing. Neither is real, but they are both scary. ;)

  • never has a truer word been said my friend.

  • what if the clown IS and atomic bomb!

  • you just took this to another level. another level of crapping my pants. thats some scary stuff you're throwing out there

  • Hooooly shit! I don't think that ANY amount of training excersizes and preperation could prepare us for that!

  • Wouldn't a vid on how to Kiss your arse goodbye be more helpful

    Covering head with newspaper!!!!

  • Kudos to the maker, this is REALLY well done.

  • wow.

  • the're no audio :S

  • it works for me..

  • May I have a say. Your back is still exposed to the radiation. radiation leads to Cancer.

  • They told people back then to do this so they don't have to worry about their death.

  • It was a real shock when people here first started seeing these US civil defense videos. The Americans did almost everything better, so it was a shock to find out that US civil defense was a total joke. How can a nation that won World War II have no better protection to offer its citizens than newspapers and picnic sheets?

  • So why not build news paper defense shields if they can protect so well against nuclear blasts.

  • really goes well with nin. i was born in the 70's so thru the 80's as a kid i was terrified of mushroom clouds and falls out.then the 90's came and aids took over now its terrorism goverments control society thru fear. just a thought

  • This is very well done. Very well done indeed!

  • duck and cover thats what they taught in pompeii,,,,,,,

  • "the teacher is smashed up against the black board and the kids are safe and sound under their desks"

    -Lewis Black

  • "I'm sitting under WOOD. I'm sitting under KINDLING. Why don't I just get some sticks so I can burn faster?!"

    -Lewis Black

  • I was expecting this to be depressing but still... damn, this was depressing.

  • Holy cow that really went with it. Good job.

  • Good luck if that would happen. Use lots of soap & water (non-contaminated by radiation) on the radiation - niacin might help (see: "Purification Program" by L. Ron Hubbard).

  • Cool way to use A Warm Place by NIN.

  • make sure you reserve your spot at your local vault

  • lol fallout

  • 2:20 the girl got hit hard by the boy lol

  • 0:57 lol

  • AHHAHAHHAHHHHAHAAH!!!!! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAAAA!!!! Yeah Baby!! Its an Electric Funeral!!

  • Of coarse, because kneeling on the ground is great protection from superheated shock waves of 900+ degrees and powerful radiation. Next you'll be telling me I can survive a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge. hehe

  • That's kinda the point mang.

  • remember folks, duck and cover like the guy at 2:20 and everything will be okay

  • REMEMBER! ALWAYS HAVE A NEWSPAPER WITH U! 2:50 xD

  • are they fucking kidding? a newspaper

  • Wait. I thought it was, "Stop, Drop and Roll".

It's a boomer flick, and it scared us.

  • Imagine being a little child watching this in school.

  • its a bomb duck and cover ahhhhh

  • awesome job dude.

i love the duck and cover film. "even a newspaper can save you from a bad burn!" lol.. no, but you'll have today's headline seared onto you charred remains to make them easier for archaeologists to date later!!

  • I love this, no other words. Good job.

  • I remember watching these films as early kindergarten. Schools used to have drills because you never knew when the commies would strike. They loved to give little kids nightmares.

  • apprently even a newspaper is a good defense against a nuclear blast hmmmmmmm i never knew that

  • this is so surreal....

  • This remix is hauntingly beautiful.

  • i would shit myself if my school played this video

  • Well It's better than watching documentaries on religion.

  • @dracohimora26 my school played thisvideo yesterday!

  • I like how they don't say it would be pretty much impossible to survive the fallout unless you're inside something lined in lead. too bad lead can kill you too.

  • This was well done. It still carries the original videos message, while being condensed. And the music really sets the mood.

  • i had to watch the original Duck and Cover movie in my history class about two weeks ago the duck and cover song gets stuck in your head very easily

  • Those little hiroshima kids should've ducked... and covered.

    *rolls eyes*

  • Who doesnt love a good-old-fashioned propaganda clip from the 50's

  • I am so happy our government is here for us. What would we do without them? This is all propaganda to make you fear someone, that way you can "depend" on your government to take care of you.

  • me too,

i never knew that a coat or picnic blanket could ward of the heat/shockwave/radiation of a nuclear bomb. i suppose the upside of "duck and cover" is it kept you brunt corpse in a compact ball so it was easier for clean up afterwards

  • I did thoes drills when I was in school. This could be why I am so fucked-up today. NIN saved me from the flash of light and heat.

  • the guy almost sound like he's down playing the bomb. good video

  • i really liked this video and song, put together really well, and although depressing, it shows the reality of life...i love it!

  • I agree its a superb video and so well put together, thanks very much for the video!!! :)

  • very nice. A shame that ducking and covering yourself won't do much. This really brought out the gloom and seriousness when it comes to atomic bombs/fission bombs.

@David- that heat wave can burn you like a thanksgiving turkey. And if you do survive, the rain that follows is laden with radioactive particles and many survivors will succumb to the radiation poisoning.

@ gothgirl55436- Atomic bombs are no joke.

  • very good mix, the song helps to show the real hiden evil message of this comercial, this why american society is so decadent, their goverment has always been injecting fear and maniac thoughts in their heads, now with terrorism, fear is a very good tool to control people, the song is great.

  • Funny that you find A Warm Place depressing... I always found the song to be very soothing and accepting - very literally, taking me to a warm place. Kind of like late Pink Floyd, or the Blade Runner soundtrack

  • This had my jaw open. A Warm Place goes perfectly with this film. o_o Unsurprisingly depressing, but great.

  • Very, very disturbing!

  • David90K : Well, a nuclear war, limited to two neighboring countries may be survivable, just not for the ones in those two countries. A full scale global nuclear war is unlikely to be survivable. It's not only the emidiate threat of the blast(s), but the long term effects; nuclear winter/summer etc.

  • perfect

  • Well for all you who know nothing about nuclear bombs, the Duck and Cover technique works. It is meant to protect from the blinding flash, wave of heat(that can burn you), and shards of glass and other debris. Back when this was made, there was a civil defense program that had fallout shelters for most people.

Also, just so you know...NUCLEAR WAR IS SURVIVEABLE!

  • You are naive.

  • lol we had to watch this in social studies lol it was so funny now we all joke about it and at random times our social studies teacher yells "FLASH!" and the we all do it, ahhh im gonna miss the 8th grade

  • We saw it for real in the 1950s and 60s... they weren't kidding back then!

  • wow so you seems to be very old

  • gosh that was a reply to some other comment, sory

  • ROFL @ gothgirl55 I'm gonna try this in highschool and see what happens.... Everyone will probably just be confused though

Ha ha the beggeining is hella funny! "Now we all know that the atomic bomb is dangerious...."

  • Such an interesting piece of history...

Thanks for sharing, I love NIN.

  • Would be better if the speech from the video was muted.

  • Not everyone is going to be located at Ground Zero. Given some warning, you might well improve your chances of survival by taking cover. 2/3 of the residents of Nagasaki ultimately survived a direct A-bombing. Civil defense WAS a reasonable idea, IMO. But in the 60's we came to reject survivalism and instead embraced the nihilistic Mutually Assured Destruction and it's philosophical companion - Sex, Drugs, and Rock'n'Roll. Seems like that mindset is now a permanent fixture of youth culture.

  • who are you? you're sharp!

  • "even a newspaper could save you from a bad burn"....right

  • maybe if the bomb exploded in bedrock LOL...fred and barney would use newspapers made of stone, at least the stone couldn't burn like paper could.

  • Atomic Cafe is one cool movie

  • You all are creepy o_o;

  • People, underneath it, must have known that the duck & cover method could not possibly save them from a nuclear bomb. After all, in the duck & cover video, it showed whole buildings being blown away like they were made of gingerbread. The only way that they could not have known is if they willed themselves not to know, because the idea of no security was just too terrifying.

  • A peice of history man, nice work.

  • I think that one of the disturbing things about this video is that the government seemingly gave us something to do that would 'protect' us in case of a situation such as this. Such a feeble attempt to make us feel safe if such an emergency were to actually happen, when in reality, if an Atomic bomb were to detonate within even a few miles of our location, the probability of surviving would be very low; let alone living close enough to see the flash.

  • It gave ignorant Americans a bit of closure; they THOUGHT ducking and covering would help them. XD

  • This fits in so perfectly with the Year Zero ARG that's going on right now.

  • You know, I was so traumatized by this shit growing up in the late 50's and earely 60's that I still have nightmares about frantically searching for a basement to hide in. I got to know the floor under my little desk real well thanks to all those drills. In L.A>, we did the drills all the time because we had to worry about earthquakes as well as The Big One falling from the sky.

  • now you know what to do friends, get under the table so glass flying through the air dosnt cut you while your BLOOD BOILS UNDER YOUR BURNING SKIN AS YOU ROAST ALIVE!, anyway that was very good, i liked it.

  • Yeah...atomic bombs? HA! We should be worrying about Greenland...global warming is melting the ice there and if it melts completely, it'll stop the current distributing warm water to Europe that's between the UK and Canada. Then, Europe will suffer an ice age (this is actually a mass extinction theory), causing overpopulation here in the US.

  • I could be wrong, but I think the world recovered from that once before. What good is Europe anyway?

  • ha a newspaper will protect you from nuclear burns!

  • He doesn't mention duct tape?

  • Excellent, "A Warm Place" gives it a nice creepy feel.

  • fuck you you stupid hilbilly

  • I think a couple posts on here are from ignorant people(I didn't say stupid people)! How can you want to see something so morbid... It's reality honey in the world you were dealt! I actually am Republican but my views are distorted but at the time these films were made from 1940-1970 this is the adverse propaganda the Democrats wanted every one to believe. Now the tide has turned to the Republicans. It is still very real and everyone should heed the word to rise against this govenment!

  • Wow, powerful stuff. My mother told me stories about this, how they told her to duck and cover. Think anyone bought any of this back then? A desk defending you from an atomic bomb? Excellent video, thanks alot.

  • reminds me of Fallout... nice work...

  • thank you, glad you like it...what is 'fallout'? I'll have to check it out...

  • a post apocalyptic rpg for PC

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_(computer_game)

  • THIS IS A SICK VIDEO...HOW CAN YOU WANT TO SEE SOMETHING SO MORBID.

  • It's not 'sick'...it's historical archive footage, yes it is morbid, because it shows just how fucked up us humans are, to create something as hideously destructive and threatening as the atomic bomb and then try to lull children into a false sense of security that we will be safe if they 'duck and cover'. So, sorry if you've got issues with it, but I think it holds an important message.

...oh, and watch out for that caps lock...

  • Well said. Some people would rather just close their eyes to anything truthful & live in a happy world full of puppy dogs & kitty cats. You have to embrace the bad too. That is life. You can't ignore it

  • Thank you!

  • this really was suitably depressing..But still very cool,i wish i wouldnt have to ever live in a world like that..

  • Great vid!

  • Sick Americans

    Nice video tho'

  • why do you say "Sick Americans"?
