It spread when some guys who read that created a series called "Marble Hornets", and CardGamesFTW made Concrete Giraffes to make fun of Marble Hornets. The term "wifin'" first was associated with the Slender Man even earlier though, in the "Everyman HYBRID" video series, and the first time he was said to want $20 was in another parody of MH.
