Ah...The warrior, poet, bard..."In The Back Yard" Sir Francis Bacon are You listening To this Shakspearian(SP) actor playing the balisete(SP)!!!...and yet this song has haunted me to no end! Thank you for the Post.
;atrick Stewart was seen playing with his stick in San Francisco on top of a moving bus with an "acid-ic irrelevant look". I was sooooo blown away by that wild intellectual bald man.
I read somewhere that he took stringing lessons from Sting in order to play the instrument, so I believe that he is actually playing it in this scene. Would be cool if he could still play it after all these years.
Are you sure, because I read an interview in Starlog magazine with Patrick Stewart that stated he learned stringing lessons from Sting for this particular scene. Still, even if he didn't actually play the instrument, you have to admit the stringing he did was pretty good for someone who never knew how to do it in the first place.
i could not remember that the "baliset" was impersonated by a stick in the movie. (this part is not in the movie, is it? there's one part where Gurney's instrument is shown, though, but i couldn't remember that it was a stick).
god this tune makes me hard

It was actually Emmitt Chapman playing the song, the inventor of the Chapman Stick

I would have to say that i like the casting of the mini-series better, as well as the length of it, but the playing is beautiful.

Hey, was that Dr. Kynes (Max Von Sydow) nodding off while Patrick Stewart was playing that music? ;)
