  • And here I thought Rob Halford got his attire preferences from the underground clubs he frequented.... But perhaps it was truly from Wilson? Or maybe they hung out together... No matter, they are both great and this is a brilliant version of a brilliant song by a brilliant singer.

  • My grandma and I love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Eddie Murphys real dad

  • Is this the original? I thought the Song was sang by Miss Tina Turner.

  • he's copying eddie murphy's style!!!

  • @Canaboy12 - No, no, no. On the contrary.

  • anyone know the year here?

  • Awesome!

  • ich liebe diese Song , hatte Schallplatte als kind..

  • Lookin good, and he's sounding great too!

  • I cannot believe that they BLOCK one of his greatest SOUNDS "DON'T FIGHT IT". Of all his songs "why that one"???

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959

I just typed in "youtube wilson pickett don't fight it" and there it was I played it and bookmarked it

  • He was buff :)

  • The midnight hour huh? Isn't that a booty call now a days??

  • and you're sure this isn't Eddie Murphy?!

  • Is he talking about...SEX?!

  • great wilsonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • can't wait ...

  • Need to shake off the MOFLETTA...

  • That outfit is killer!!!!!!!!!so shut up!

  • Dayummmmm he was sooo HOT!

  • Put some pounds on Eddie Murphy and him and Wilson would look like identical twins.

  • What the hell was thinking when he put that outfit on?

  • its doesnt even mather what he weares with that voice goddamn what a legend

  • what a soul voice

  • 1:20 WTF Wilson ?

  • Good stuff

  • check out BIG LEG EMMA in the background!

  • A little gravelly, but the man can still deliver the goods.

  • ecnalubma thats what makes wilson pickett unique!!!!!!!

  • To the best of my knowledge, Wilson Pickett never recorded for Motown. It was STAX Records all the way!!!

  • In the beginning Pickett was Stax, but then he moved over to Motown. But Midnight Hour is Stax, just hear the sound.

  • Atlantic Records...

  • @exiit That doesn't matter it's still THE MG's WITH STEVE CROPPER no matter which label

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 What are you talking about? Of course it's The MG's :) But Steve didn't play for motown, he played for Stax. Don't even know what we're arguing about :S

  • Somebody please help me. What genre of music is this? I mean if I really wanted to narrow it down, is this dance? Funk? It's not disco right? How would I search for similar songs? I'm trying to find a song from what I think is the same genre of music but I don't know any of the words (although I know how it goes). It's like "DUD-I-KOFF BABY . . . . DUD - I - KOFF NOW". I know that's not the real words. HELP ME.

  • This is 60s and 70s stuff. Back then it was called Soul Music and/or Rythm and Blues.

The term funk was born out of James Brown's music and his protege's and those that came after.

  • id probably just call it good old soul music

  • This considered classic 60's SOUL.

It is funky, but would not be considered Funk.

It's not even close to Disco, but of course you can dance to it.

  • Let me try that again in my native language: "This is considered classic 60's SOUL."

  • i wonder if Otis would've sold his soul to the disco sound

  • Not a big Motown fan, but man, this song rocks. Lord have mercy!

  • Pretty sure this is stax sound though (Steve Cropper) :)

  • He was wonderful. Man, he could sing.

  • I'm 27 now so this music was before I was born. Nonetheless I'd say "This is my music!" I just feel it in my heart.

  • Then you're on the right track. Doesn't matter when you're born, as long as it sparks your soul. That's what it's supposed to do. I was fortunate to hear and see him throughout my childhood and witness some super soulful stage power! All those crooning soul singers, from James Brown, Wilson Pickett, David Ruffin, Jackie Wilson and some you may have never heard of...healed us from all misery. That's why Michael Jackson was so great. He loved and honored them all!

  • Amen!! Great comment, dggd....

  • Great song, great period, great sensations of the 'swinging 60's' never to come back again...!

  • I totally agree! :) Love motown music!

  • Wilson Pickett wasn't with Motown. He was on Atlantic and Stax records.

  • The BEST!!!.

  • Wow.

  • Black music (motown, soul, blues etc.) FOREVER, it ROCKS!

  • I bet you would love to snap your skirt and pop your coochie to this one don't you Blanch.? Go ahead and pop the funk out your ass

  • I have sung this song to a couple girls, and as long as you do it with some feeling and soul, it goes over well. Everytime.

  • what an amazing voice! I love this song

  • @jowildcat40 true!!

  • THis is why I sing. Soul music is powerful

  • Don't pick your nose let Wilson Pick itt

  • Hurr hurrr

  • He looks very much like Clifton Powell and Eddie Murphy.

  • It's not exact.

    They look like him.

  • you are right. Since he is older than those two, they would have to look like him.

  • Wilson looks like Eddie Murphy.

  • this is the sound of murder.

    of Miami murdering Memphis.

of the drum-machine murdering groove (look at the drumset near the end - no one is hitting those crashes! that's why they hid it behind the band!)

of Pickett murdering his wonderful vocal chords.

of one of my favorite songs of all time murdering my ears.

I gotta five it, cus I'm glad you posted it, and I am in awe of it. this is good evidence of a really awful thing.

  • Stop beign such a drama queen and just listen to another video

  • i did, thanks. and I liked it a lot better, it was a lot more soulful

  • he was such a great singer but its songs just aint anything special to ne honest, he could have done alot more

  • Come on, children. Lord, have mercy.

  • Wilson's soulful former gospel singer was a rare breed. That Memphis sound.

  • cette chansson m'a fait découvrir le blues, la soul...depuis j'ai le virus

  • Einer, der geilsten Songs die dieser Planet Erde je gehört hat.Bei mir unter den Top Ten´s.

  • I LOVE Wilson Pickett - but this is just awful.

  • Are you kidding or must plain mean?

  • He is just plain stupid.

  • VA24541, if you think he is so stupid, why are you even watching this video? I see you are 59-I'm 56. We are about the same age-back then we all loved Motown, great for dancing! Maybe you are just a BIGOT, OR just just "plain stupid" youself! I think you're just "plain mean"! You sure don't act like you're from the "Love & Peace" generation!

  • VA, I'm SO sorry for my "just stupid" comment...i didn't see the whole thread and I thought you were talking about Picket being stupid, not tomlovesjoan. I'M REALLY SORRY! Can we be friends?

  • The stupid person in question is "tomlovesjoan". he is calling Wilson's music pathetic. You yourself called him mean, I called him stupid. I stand by my statement. Wilson was not Motown however.

  • Hi VA, I agree with you! "tomsloves joan" IS stupid! I just misread your comment and thought YOU were calling PICKETT "stupid" and I called YOU "mean"! I wrote back to say that I was REALLY sorry for that and didn't think YOU were stupid and invited you to be "friends", that's all......I sent you a "friends" invite...I just call all "soul music" from back then "Motown". (I'm NOT a bad person...). I'm going to resend the friend invite!

  • Ok then, glad we have that straight. Motown never cranked out a sound like Memphis. Volt/Stax records had not only Wilson Pickett, but Sam & Dave, Issac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Eddie Floyd, The Mar-Kays, Johnnie Taylor, and the greatest Otis Redding. Detroit never could hold a candle to Memphis.

  • of course he was motown!!! I'm really not being mean, but are you deaf?

  • No, Pickett was Stax.

  • Sam, I think you are the deaf one here. Wilson Pickett never recorded for Motown. He was one of the cornerstones of the Memphis sound. He recorded for Atlantic Records, and then for Stax. He had Memphis artists like Issac Hayes, Steve Cropper, Al Jackson, Duck Dunn playing behind him. Motown never ever had a band like that, not on its best day ever. Memphis=the birthplace of rock & roll.

  • I'm sorry, I dont mean he recorded FOR motown records, I mean his style IS motown, can u not hear the funky motownness in the song? CAN YOU? ARRRGHHHHH!!!!!! Sorry, its just its soo obvious that his style is motown and I dont get it why were debating it, lets just leave it after all, everyone's got their own opinions okay?

  • I wanna sing this like he does...I will
