I was a civil servant in Ethiopia. I used to travel to Afar region for my work. I met this woman in one of the remotest village of Afar. I wish all NGOs should work being integrated with communities like this women. But most NGO who unfortunately grab the aid money live in a very lexierious life in Addis Ababa or other big cities (while 85% of the population live in the remote rural area).
well i am happy to see the people has accepted her, and therefore she more or less safe. but she still needs to be carefull when she speaks up to the men. women don't have much freedom there and it is unusual to the people when women speak up like she did.
Think about this - we keep helping these countries - yet they keep breeding, I myself only have 2 children because it is all I can afford. Yet they keep breeding in these countries - keep handing out charity and they will keep breeding. Just as the UK now with more benefits for single mums and child tax credits, the single mother population has risen!!!!! People should be made responsible for their won actions. Valarie has been helping since the 70s and there is NO IMPROVEMENT????

There are more Ethiopian born doctors in the city of Chicago than in Ethiopia itself. There is not even a single doctor in the Afar region (which is the size of a typical small US state) shows how shameless educated Ethiopians are. They leave the country in the name of fleeing prosecution. That is bullshit.

The Afar region is probably the hottest most desolate place in the world, with nil annual rain fall, not to mention the rift valley.
You have to be very tough to survive there.
I plan to visit the place once I complete my Geology degree.
