The chest is that if the kajit traders. The stock replenishes when they get their stock replenishes as well. The items in the chest are in the items that the kajit traders will sell you.

My Dawnstar is abandoned. I killed all the guards with sneak attacks, and later, two ancient dragons flew in at the same time and killed everyone. And I can tell you from experience, that wasn't fun killing them.

here's what you do-

1. find and loot the chest

2. wait in dawnstar until the kajit caravan arrives

3. wait 48 hours by the caravan

4. talk to the kajit that sells things and ask what she has

5. go back to the chest and get the new items

6. rinse and repeat = )

The chest is replenished every time you go into Kajit inventory after 48 hours. A Really good way of increasing enchanting is to go into the inventory of the Kajit the walk to chest, loot the chest of enchanted items and filled soul gems go back to Kajit and wait 48 hours (she will still be there), then go into inventory again and carry on (take a follower for all the enchanted stuff). After 30 mins you can have 100 filled soul gems of various types and a ton of enchanted armor to disenchant.

that chest is da khajit caravan chest and it replenishes every time they do a circle of da map if u dont believe me check there inventory ( they sell stuff btw) and then check the chest and the contents are identical

The chest is actually that Kajit's caravans stock, if you sell them something you item will be in there you can basically just take whatever you want if you don't have enough money, if you didn't know.

Sold a quest item to the Khajiit, on my way to the Dawnstar Sanctuary decided to check the chest, and found the quest item in the chest. And I so hoped I got rid of all the useless junk I was dragging along. Guess I gotta sell them to someone else now. But hey - It's free gold, I ain't complaining.

the reason why the chest is there is because that is the kajit vendor's inventory by dawnstar's gate. the designers actually put the inventories of the vendors under the ground however this one is close enough to the surface to be looted. simple as that, if you don't believe me and you have skyrim on the computer use tlc and go beneath a vendor and you can loot any vendor's inventory.
