maybe they wasnt traying to save the shark maybe it was just to heavy for them and yea i dont think thats a shark if it is they wodnt dare to go into the water for shit he wud eat em all
baskin sharks only eat planton and other stuff i think but, it would still be shit scary if one was swimming up to you with its mouth open gives me the creeps thinking about it.
@m1o2n3e4e5r6 Baskin sharks have no commercial use they were releasing it, people like you are always trying to paint fishermen out to be the bad guy, they put their lives in danger to release it, what more can you ask for.
a great reason why seiners should not be allowed in the water anymore, they just drag the sein and whatever swims in it usually ends up dead!!! Go rod and reel boyz, its much more fun!!!!!!!!! and less destructive to other species!!
I can talk as a former tuna fishermen, there is not intention to harm the basking shark, in fact sometimes we just rip the net in order to set the creature free, the scene here is to let the baskin shark free in order to retrieve the catch
Purse seiners are basically the root cause of the giant tuna depletion...that and mid-water trawl boats. Nice job saving that shark...that make you feel like you're making the world a better place?
A rod and reel commercial tuna fishery would earn you 10x the money...and guarantee your livelyhood for eons. Or, we can just watch the giants disappear for ever... it really is up to you and your association.
Well, there is not association, I just post the video to show how is fishing so you can watched in the comfort of your house, this is not posted with the intention to start a controversy or arguing who is right or not, I post news in my site like Greenpeace confronting the seiners in the western pacific, your comment have nothing to do with the scene, you have not idea at all. Go join Greenpeace and support them ..that make you feel like you´re making the world a better place?
Kalidrus, thanks for the invite. Good footage. I have cought quite a few basking sharks in our nets. First time I jumped in the net to get the poor guy out I was wearing shorts. Never again! It's skin is like sand paper. I was raw. They are a pain to get out of the net with times loosing fish over the cork line. Thanks again.
awesome footage, something is happening cause last week they were found dead two specimens in the southern pacific region in the coast of chile, were i live. it seams they are traveling southern for food reasons.
Who knows the true facts of the death of those basking shark you did mentioned above, as long as I know no one is interested in harm this great and gentle creatures.
An accident? or did they run aground?, did they were hit by something? do you have the link pointing to the news?
Indeed it was a very quiet shark, although can not be seen in the video the final result is that the crew did their best effort to put the shark out of the sack, and they did accomplished it

a baskin shark is not a man eater nor dangerous to humans... it's like smaller version of the whale shark.

That's a big shark. At least they did their best to save the shark.

Were they trying to save the shark or were they trying to save the nets from damage ?
Either way i'm glad this Basking Shark was set free.
Does anyone know where i can find footage i once saw of a White Shark caught in a similar situation ?

@StolenMonkey both probably
id like to think they were thinking of the shark but they definantly didnt want to replace the nets or risk losing the catch
