@davehiggod Not exactly. "Cotton Fields" was recorded for the album "20/20" in 1969 by Brian Wilson. Al Jardine didn't like his arrangement, so six months after "20/20" was released, Jardine re-recorded it in a much more country-twang way, renamed it "Cottonfields" (all one word) and released it as a single. It didn't do all that great in the U.S. becuase The Beach Boys were still uncool, but it did get to #2 in the UK.
@Highlander1G I am just discovering Al Jardine. Please forgive me because there was no MTV or YouTube in the 60's. We had 3 lousy TV channels and no repeats of singing groups. We had no idea who was singing the songs: I knew the voice but not the name of Mike Wilson. Al does a fine rendition. Try Creedence Clearwater Revival's rendition (vocal by John Fogerty); the best I have ever heard. And I am from Louisiana. YouTube is a great marketer of talent.
Too bad this song was ignored in the US when it was released. Alan did a nice job of making the single sound more Beach Boys than Brian did with the album version.
I prefer the beach boys version because the country folkie arrangement is much better than the rocker one of creedence

The Beach Boys released an earlier version of Cottonfields 5 years earlier. The original was more "Southern" style.
