  • Awesome! Thanks! Also, would you check out my cover? :)

  • Awesome, awesome, awesome dude. You are a gem of a human being.

  • Thanks, for this.. Going to give it a try.

  • no funny jokes, and you're so ugly

  • @pulgx Why would you make such a horrible comment?? Warren is donating his talents to the world free of charge and that is all that you can come up with. I feel sorry for you.

  • female room mate? lucky bastard.

  • @Teutonic1250 You have never lived with a girl. Massive shits. All I'm sayin.

  • What an absolute loser.

The lessons good all the same.

  • A lot easier than I thought it would be, thanks for the sweet lesson Warren!

  • very nice lesson. this helped to finish the song in a grand fashion. thumbs up! :)

Excelente...

  • You've got it! Great job! I couldn't make sense of the chords and can see I'm way over my head. Some songs just can't be simplified. It's a fine arrangement that is hard to hear over Thom carrying the melody line and the violins somewhere out there harmonizing.

  • thanks for the lesson dude. :)

  • THank you alot!! but was hard to find out that picking style

  • thanks alot great tutorial! u the man!

  • I like when you say, "Johnny Greenwood and Thom Yorke...and...whoever else wrote this...they're just...genius..." and kind of shake your head in disbelief. I know how you feel...

  • Thanks so much for this!

  • Very cool. The song is a slice of genius.

  • Thankyou

  • i no this vid is ancient warren, but anychances of elaborating on the picking style? x

  • @ceridawn For you Ceri, sure. Play the beginning of the video and listen for the first pluck of every measure... it's the thumb (bass note) and middle finger or ring if you prefer (2nd string) together. Once you do that add the inner notes of the chord using your index.

  • @warrenmusic aaahhhhh thanks very muchly Warren!! x

  • @warrenmusic ahhh thanks dear!! x

  • Hey, friend, great tutorial. Don't forget (at the "end" of the song) the F that they arpeggiate into the B#6 chord--it's pivotal.

  • watched a few of your tutorials, im only a beginner but you are helping a lot! thanks mate! also i like how you credit how well written this song is.

  • you fat finger man

  • This is so hard on classical guitar. but then again, i didn't choose classical guitar for songs like these...but i didn't think it'd be so much harder

  • @asbani

When he says f flat or whatever-letter-that-is-a-through-g flat it means that you lower the note by a half step , or in guitar terms, a fret.

  • Can someone just tell the picking pattern please. I really don't have time to "earn" it.

  • I kinda can't tell the order of the strings im supposed to be picking can anyone elaborate?

  • awesome lesson to an awesome song cheers!!

  • helpful! thanks :)

  • its hard for new ppl to play this song, i dont understand when you say,, F flat, or D flat, or F over G, or whatever this language means ;P

  • Asbani, the tab is in the video description and the chords are easy to look up otherwise on the internet. With practice, even beginners can play this song, guaranteed.

  • @warrenmusic No. it's not beginner level.

  • @spongebobnik Sorry, intermediate?

  • excellent song. you can listen to my cover of 15 step if you want. i'm going to upload a video showing how to play it in a couple days.

  • Immensely helpful as usual. Thanks Warren.

  • Very useful! Thank you!

  • This would be even better if you did a tute for the banjo as well :)

  • lol, I wanna have nails as long as you have so my guitar sounds good when fingerpicking, but I always bite them off... =/ I might cover this after this toturial, thanks! =)

  • thanks warren exelente tutorial all songs -...thanks from veracruz mexico.....

    alex9buster

  • I thought the next chord after the Bmaj was:

    x-1-2-0-1-0....

Is that the same as you're playing with different fingering? It (above) certainly sounds right to me, but so does yours....

  • If you are referring to the D/C, then no, it's not the same.

  • Cheers, but no, referring to the C/Bb. I got the fingering I referred to from the In Rainbows songbook. I think the results are similar, except mine has an additional (octave lower) E and is open, while yours is closer to the next Ab. I think yours is what RH play from some vids. Wonder why the songbook is different? Seen that a few times. Wonder if songbook writers try to mimic the whole ensemble sound rather than spec instrmnts? Or they cd just be wrong. Anyway I prefer the open sound now :)

  • From the songbooks I've seen... they tend to go for a simplified arrangement of everything.

This chord shape is a common shape for Radiohead, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the one they use. See A Wolf at the Door (Verse) or Knives Out (Chorus).

As for your chord, my ear tells me there is no E between the Bb bass note and the G above it.

  • dude, massively helpful

  • you are the sun you are the only one. thank you so much.

  • thanks, very accurate

  • Kool ,Like the third time i ended up on one of your VDOs so F it i jez subscribed ! Thanx This'll be KILLER exercise .I Love the Scotch Mist version and wish the album Didnt have all the strings added

  • I really dont get how you expect most of us to figure out what the picking pattern is.

  • by pressing "pause" every now and then. helping yourself with ears and with intuition.

  • by listening to the song, he also trying to help you train your ear by not handing you everything

  • hello kid.

    lol

tnx dude i'm just learning and you helped ALOT.

    my fave song......

yeah..... i love all of them:D

    lol

  • anybody know where i can get the correct strumming pattern ttabs for this song?

  • The lowest note of every chord should be sounding on every down beat thru the whole song.

  • great, tutorial, i wish i can learn it, time to get to it...

the next step would be to sing along...:P

  • I wished you were my guitar teacher!

  • thank you

  • This is my favorite song to play, Thanks you so very much :)

  • now to find someone to play chello.......

  • Thanks , a great help. Tabs came in handy too.

  • Thank you! Short, simple, straight to the point.

  • hey man im from mexico i dont have tha flu please send me the tab of faust arp to my mail and u will be the best i love radiohead i justve seen them in mexico city peace out

  • Radiohead was amazing on Mexico City.

They played Faust Arp at May 15th and Thom laught on the middle of the song.

    I'll never forget that concert.

    PS: Warren rocks!

  • He laugh because he made a mistake, but not everyone noticed. He miss a step, but johny kept going and Yorke catched on the tune. Curious fact, but its hard to sing and play this song and he made it.....

  • WHAT DOES FAUST ARP MEAN???

  • The Faust¨s harp

Te recomiendo leer Fausto de Goethe

  • Arp may be an abbreviation of Arpeggio (notes of a chord played in succession), which would make sense because that's basically what the song is. That's how I take It anyways.

  • Great intro!!! ROFL

  • i love that radiohead actually write songs that use chords other than major, minor and maybe a 7th like most douchebaggy bands out there today. They use inversions, especially the 3rd inversion (with 7th in the bass mmm crunchy), real chord progressions, basicallyl they use harmony to express something, not as a backdrop to a wall of white noise that is what most bands do today. RAnt.

  • heard this song live fuck that was amazing

  • Damn! They came to Argentina for the first time in like... 15 years or so and they didn't play faust arp!!

They played ALL in rainbows' songs but faust arp

TEMON.

  • Bueno, gracias. :)

Y sí, yo estaba bastante cerca de Ed cuando tocaron "How to Disappear Completely", estuvo bárbaro.

  • thanks a lot man, i can finally play it ! you are awsome

  • johnny wrote it.

  • the "D" you mentioned at 2:07 is a C# :)

    (Db)

  • this is a great video, thanks :) a lot of help, and man! what a fantastic song.

  • haha this is awesome

  • Yeah...Thanks alot

  • thank u

  • Awesome. You should do another with the numbers of the chords (e.g. Em= X22000). I do have one question though. In 0:55 you mention the sweet love thing and in your Last Flowers tutorial you say "he" (when referencing your room mate) at 0:11 so I must ask the question. Are you gay? Either way your tutorials are AWESOME!

  • does that really matter???

  • Of course not. I was just curious.

  • Bi-curious?

  • I'll tell you why it matters. The song is ruined for me because every time I hear it I'm reminded of the "sweet love" comment. And that is not a visual I fancy.

  • thanks your lessons are the best!

  • Those are awesome chords. Great tutorial dude, thx.

  • thanks

  • Were you looking in a mirror while saying that?

  • Your chords are brilliant mate, but I never became very clear on your fingerpicking pattern...

  • Good tutorial - very clear. Thx!

  • Hello kids. you are good man !!

  • just had to comment here.

this is the best series of "here's how to play a song" videos i've come across.

    good stuff!

  • niiice. even though "anyone can play guitar" i refuse to learn. but that was sweet and good for those who have musical aspirations and shit.

  • awesome song, awesome tutorial...

  • How the hell do they come up with all these crazy chords and make them fit so well together... my god

  • oh man that's just so cool. I love it.

  • Subscribed. Your videos are really good man, keep it up

  • hello its ROCKY!

  • pretty pretty good thank you dude, quite accurate but i think you already noticed that the bass line is faster and monotonous so you avoid to play some notes, when johny plays that his thumb is movin all the time, i mean all the steps of the rythm

  • Heh, the progression with the "melodic series" that he was talking about is pretty much the chord progression to Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing (if it Ain't Got That Swing)." (Please, though, this is only an observation. It is not, in any way, meant as an offense to warrenmusic or Radiohead.)

  • good observation, it's actually quite common. it's known as the "descent into hell" bass line if you study opera.

  • Oh, wow, I didn't know that. (I really should probably get a start on listening and studying opera...) Anyway, wonderful video. It explains playing it pretty much perfectly, and points out some cool facts. Anyway, 5/5, you deserve it. (and Radiohead does, too!!!)

  • Thanks a lot for this.

  • cool stuff. thanks.

  • you rule!

  • You're brilliant!

  • Thanks for the tutorial

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. I looked up countless tabs for this song, but it's so much easier when you have someone actually walk you through it. Thanks to you, I can now play one of my favorite songs.

  • excellent video,

one thing tho you said brings you to D, when in fact it is and you play a C#.

  • In Rainbows is the best of 2007

  • hey thanks for all your tutorials which are the best i've seen here, it's like there's no approximation just the real and better way to play those songs. you could make people pay for that and thank you that you don't. moreover your comments are funny :)i hope you could learn us "the clock" accoustic version...well whatever i want to learn every thom yorke's songs ^^ thx

one of your student in france ;)

  • Thanks for that man! very helpfull

  • lalalalalalla learn us the fucking song fast :P

  • youre the fucking funniest person in the world, youre the man

  • ROFL :-D

  • I wish I understood half the stuff you were saying.

  • awesome! I've got no words for your videos man, are vere helpful for the those who loves radiohead. If you could post a tutorial of weird fishes/arpeggi you'd be god. I love you man!!!!!

  • he is my guitar teacher. i keep telling him to post up his songs. they are pretty cool.

  • fuck man...well done. i want to learn play guitar just because i love this song so much

at any ratio, i love you

  • I've never felt compelled to comment on anything on youtube before but you sir, are a genius.

  • got it:))

    thank u

  • ur the best

  • I think you actually play it at the beginning when the video starts, but kinda skip it in the actual lesson. After the B/F# chord, you're actually supposed to go back and repeat the beginning sequence before moving to the C/Bb chord. At least that's how it is in the original song.

You've got all the chords and stuff right though it seems, so super awesome job man.

  • at 1:40 you can hear him saying "thom throws you in for a loop"

it's a four minute tutorial, its not gonna be too in-depth

  • You don't have to defend him, I wasn't being too critical. I think the "loop" you're thrown by Thom is the chord change.

  • dude...it's all good.

    this is an amazing song.

    ahhhh...

  • you're a genious, thanks man!

  • Warren I've seen all of your vids now and I must say I can't make up my mind if you are a better teacher or guitar player. For all you naysayers out there with your nitpicks and smartassed comments why don't you post a link to a vid of yourself playing so we can ridicule your insecure self.

  • I always thought Jonny played this song, not Thom. I'm probably wrong, though. Love your videos...I think I figured out how to play this thanks to you!

  • Great job man! And thanks for posting the chords. You are not only personable but a good teacher as well. Keep it up, for our sakes.

  • Awesome job man!

  • These people who are talking trash in here are complete dolts. This is amazing! You are talented and I want to thank you for putting this on here. Fantastic job on a beautiful song!

  • Very nice, thanks for the post.

  • Oh wow, you realy nail that ending :)

  • im surprised at the amount of idiots who are going on here talking crap. point is, the guy's gonna be teaching a lot of people how to play their favourite songs, and they're easy to follow for a beginner, and it's free, so i really don't see what the problem is.

  • the problem is, some radiohead fans will be bitching always, no matter what is given to them for free. Welcome to the radiohead fanbase.

  • There's dickheads in every fanbase, don't single Radiohead fans out.

  • good job man ,, forget these idiots leaving negative comments

  • thanks man

  • just trying to have fun. keep in mind, i don't serve you...

  • You're a nasty bit out of tune on that second string up, what is that, the b string?

  • yeah probably like 6 cents sharp or something. what are you, a freakin human tuner?

  • sweet love hahahaa too much information!

  • wow i saw some other tabs and they made the song seem so simple lol .

  • hello kids. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...not even 10 seconds into this clip and it's entertaining me already.

  • haha I agree with you if you are being sarcastic

  • dude that was cool as feck!! Nice job, il come back to this later and have a crack! :D 5*

  • props man. i wish i wrote this song too

  • thank you!

  • hello kids.

    lol

    Radiohead RULES.

  • I might be wrong but I ear a DbM7 (b=flat) instead of the Db major.

Could you tell me what it is please?

  • I think its actually a D-flat dominant 7th chord, drop the 7th a half step.

  • Yes it's what i'm saying

  • The Maj7 you're hearing is in the other guitar part.

It's a pure chord, not a dominant either.

  • woaw moi aussi j'adore cette chanson.

you know you are a good teacher because this song seems to be a little difficult and there are not usual chords and you found the whole song in one day bravo.

    (excuse my english i'm french)

thx for his video i gonna work it

  • i love you, you rock, i'm a bit empty on compliments, but you rock....

  • great job!

  • Thanks a lot for posting this! It actually works really good with the violin part. You must be a good teacher ^_^

  • Thanks, this was really useful!

I'm buying you a thumb pick and some nail clippers for christmas.
