Thanks for this. During Perestroika, the Moscow Symphony came to my town thanks to the efforts of a strong Russian department at the university. The reception was much warmer than the orchestra had expected. In appreciation, the orchestra played this as an encore with the great bass, Ivan Petrov (1920 - 2003) as soloist. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. It is one of my fondest memories.

Wonderful song, in best Russian tradition. I live in North Norway but my ancestors came from the area we call Russia today for several hundred years ago. But I feel I still have contact with the great russian soul. Beautiful!
Once more about the name of this Siberian lake. It lays in the teritory of Buriat autonomy republic - part of the Russian federation and their language groups to the Mongolic languages. As is written by rtube12, In Mongolian the word байгаль (Baigali) means Nature, but also The lake Baikal and also Landscape. This is not scientifically proven, but very presumable.

I certainly know it is the name of the lake Baikal. My question was what is the meaning of the word. I don't wonder if Russians have no idea what does this word mean because "Baikal" is a Mongolian word, derived from "Baigal" meaning "Nature."
Origin of the naming of this great lake only proves that lake Baikal historically belonged to Mongolian land.
I've found some information, but it's in the czech language only. There are two considered possibilities. The name comes from a turkic word Баикуль = "rich in fishs" or from mongolian languages "Baj" = "a lot of" + "gal" = "water". But it isn't scientifically proven.

Appreciate you did some search. Yeah it seems like there is no clear explanation of the word "Baikal." As for the Mongolian language "Baigali" literally means Nature, but it may also mean great, huge, and/or rich as ancient people respected and defined the nature.

Ty jsi zase 100% Slovák, malej chudák, zamindrákovanej z Čechů a z Maďarů a své vlastní "velikosti", kterou nikdo nedocení.
Ja iba rozširujem myšlienku panslavizmu a zatial som mal vždy dobru odozvu, len vždy nejaký Čech začne do mňa kybicovať.

It was a BEAUTIFUL video. I will never get to see Russia probably and I am glad that You Tube is giving us a chance to get to know about each other. It is hard to hate people when they have beautiful music and they love their country just like we love ours. The only people I hate anymore are politicians --ALL of them,China, North Korea, UK, USA,Russia, France, Germany, etc.
They sure have some good arts, no doubt: music, dance, literature and so on. However, travel in today's Russia can be dangerous though; especially in some areas in the big cities. Due to the loss of their super-power status, some Russians are quite xenophobic. Some young men form skinhead groups and beat up foreigners often in broad daylight. In St. Petersburg alone, there are 1500 incidents a year; i.e., 3 incidents a day.
Do you often visit black quarters? What about night excursion to Bronx?;) Oh! Is it safe enough? Should I take my gun? Russia is much more safe country. Nobody shoot people "for fun" in schools and in universities here.
Sorry, I'm talkin' about cases like in the Virginia Tech University. There are too many such cases. I hope these tragedies will stop. But I'm sure that they are not about xenophobia.
Ignorant american scum you know nothing about Russia. Firstly Russia is fastest growing economy in the world and has 3rd largest company in world which be the first by 2010. Russia is vast multicultural country and nobody likes those american supported skinheads who are small.
WELL, WE LOVE OUR COUNTRY TOO!I wish like hell that we could get along with the Russians and nobody had to fight! But I don't think it is going to be like that...

Ojej! To było w Mistrzu i Małgorzacie, chór Korowiowa:
Morze przesławne, Bajkale Ty nasz
Łajbo dziurawa płyn burzy na przekór,
Żagle podarte wciągnijcie na masz.
Już niedaleko do brzegu!

No they on't shoot for fun, they only shoot from xenofobia.

Bold & stupid scums make the beautiful Russian land less safe for others to visit. Yes, I went there in St. Petersburg & Moscow and I knew..

All this talk about xenophobia in Russia is Western invention. I bet skinheads are sponsored by foreign powers, just like it was with Bolsheviks.
