This is how we calculate our profit on an item:

Item cost + 7.9% of item cost + 2.4% of item cost + insertion fees + store fees + plus extra option fees + paypal transaction fee. Then take this figure and add 2.4% of your postage cost to it. Then take that figure eg. $20 and if you want to make $2 on the item add $2.20 (10.3% Ebay / Paypal fees) Then add any GST, Import tax and business tax to this.

Doesnt setting your auction for 7 days give you a better chance to let buyers find your listing and perhaps add you to there watch list? If your dealing with a rare item like a limited edition album on colored vinyl by a lesser known band isnt it best to give collectors more time to find your item? I would be worried setting a auction for 24 hours would limit by potential bidders. I am experienced Ebay buyer looking to turn seller. Thanks for any advice folks.

Lets face it as an Ebay seller you might as well bend over and lube up because if you are a seller all they want to do is screw you sensless especially with their detailed sellers rating. You can still get glowing feedback and still be screwed by the buyer on the DSR. Ebay used to be great but it has become bogged down with senseless rules and regulations.

I was thinking, what a joke. I do as he asks, saving him additional listing fees and all, and I get to buy it at the same price?

Start with a Low bid price? thats all good and dandy if you have a Hot item,, that means ur going to get a bidding war, and if its an hot item, even if you start it high, its going to sell ! Most of my items are common and usually sell at the starting price! And if people dont meet ur reserve, you still havnt sold ur item and ur out the extra cost,(2.00) ! NEVER DO RESERVE! , START IT OUT AT THE LEAST UR WILLING TO TAKE! and the rest is gravy! Thats SAFE! even with ONE bid, ur safe!
