  • now you too can learn to compose ! ! like Bach, or Mozart or Stravinsky - but without all those unruly "notes" and "harmonies" and painstaking effort to understand the entire history of music that came before you and to produce something of value that stands up against it. i guess composition means different things to different people.

  • @TheJohnroney

The only problem with this software is that if people were to use it & claim their work to be as important, achieving the same heights, or even that their music has the same goals, as the composers you named. There is a time and a place for music that uses tools such as these, and as long as those using it have no pretentions, I see nothing wrong with it.

Besides, it's more useful within a track than to create one on its own (I wouldn't listen to this demo again!)

  • 40%

    :D

  • Wow, this will sound awesome when you add music.

  • but does it work with fruityloops?

  • whats thsi effect called? and is there a hardware controller that does that i can add to cubase?

  • @hallal55 The effect name is only in the video title...

  • go against the flow and dont be lazy or fake

  • this is not good for destructive editing ( not break-core friendly, glitching was about imperfection)

i am not paying $250 for copy and paste and a grid

and yes you can make this in a DSP program

why do i need to buy effects when i can make one and

and yes i think iZotope is a good company

Rx repair and ozone is the only thing i would want to spend my money on

  • @Noname7401 pretty sure this is meant for live use

  • @izotopeinc please can you put this plug in on special for the holidays! I want to buy but it's a little out of my price range for me. Thanks.

  • don't mean to sound like a dick but I already have N.I. the finger, how does this compare?

  • @9insertnamehere3 does that do the same thing? whats the effect called? does it work with cubase?

  • @9insertnamehere3 Hey if you've got an answer for this now, I'd really like to know because I just got Komplete 8 ultimate which comes with the finger... would be interesting to find out.

  • @yoshimitsu0408 wow komplete 8. thats a pretty bold move. what else have you invested in?

  • Well it seems pretty awesome.

  • This plug in freaking kicks ass! I just got it today and i'm excited.

  • Very nice effect.

And about usage, this is always the same thing : use and abuse.

-Aural exciter was created to give back some sparkle after multiple tape bounces in the old days...and it was abused on a lot of tracks

-Autotune was meant to fix some vocals, a guy used it creatively and with care only on some parts of a Cher song...and now ppl create their signature with this sound on ALL their tracks and ALL over the tracks...

Shame is not on the tools but on fake artists.

    Don't blame BT :D

  • @Pipotron3000 while I mostly agree with you, another aspect that's mostly at fault is the millions of people who buy and dance to the records that are using and over abusing these tools. So, even if the "artist" doesn't have a great voice, they must be doing something right to be able to sell their image and music. Truth is, the sales talk for themselves, people want trash, not real music. Otherwise Mozart and others like him would still be on our top 100 billboards.

  • @Ticoindamix It's not just about what the artist does. Nobody dances to anyone's music without being exposed to it. Many people nowadays are after the new music, just consider how many producers learn music theory, as opposed to the number of people who only listen.

I know people who don't like the processed sounds, they like the 'raw' sound.

  • @Pipotron3000

I hate, repeat hate that use of Autotune in pop. Love the Singing News use of it .

Look up the history of Autotune, it's fascinating where it's origin lies. You might be surprised .

  • load a drum loop on abelton and start composing with it ,its that simple..

  • BT has been using this kind of effect for a very long time,it has become his signature.now that he released a commercial plugin, everyone will be able to create these awesome effects without efforts or without having the slightest creativity.i already see the lazy ass "artists/live performers/producers" pushing keys on their midi controllers sounding like BT.i don't see why he sold out the work of all these years.

@RaVe4EvR122 - actually you can do it with max/msp or reactor

  • It's not intentional enough, sounds just like random stuttering, not musically placed at all.

  • probably skrillex use this.

  • The CPU is not that bad on mine. I just ran it on 4 tracks at once and my CPU was at 25% on Logic. Besides, you can always freeze or bounce the track once you get the sound you want. Theres also a free demo if you're weary.

  • BEST FX VST ON ZE MARKET PEEPZ, FUCKTHE CPU METER, its fake n gay

  • If this is going to be used artistically (subtle), this would make a good tool. If it's going to be used as a glaring novelty (the focal point of a composition), then I see this going the way of Cher's tired vocal effect from a few years ago. JMO.

  • @AnalogX1 this is too abstract, but it always depens on how u use it

  • SICKK, i need this, Effectrix isnt near as good as this

  • Check out TABLA TASTIKO on youtube for probably the most innovative use of STUTTER EDIT!!

  • In Logic the global filter always defaults down to 15hz. A known issue?

  • HELP ME IZOTOPE OR SOMEONE!!! I bought it. yup paid 200 for it and it wont install because of a c++ thing error. HELP ME!!! ASAP. I have a windows 7 64 bit and have ableton live.

  • @flyinjay007jpa You MIGHT have a virus - I faced the same error in my Virtual DJ which was because of the virus...

  • @Hyper149 if anyone else is having this problem, Hyper149 seems right. i brought it to best buy and microsoft to check it out. this sucks.

  • Seems musically random , like a kids toy , fun.

BT mentions composition, I wouldn't call this composing.

More like throwing spaghetti at a wall.

  • @juliedog464 it can seem random but you can set every single parameter as you want. you can create very complexe results which dont sound random. it is composing because you can decide if it is chaos/random or in a cheerful way. there are some artist, which play stutter edit like an instrument. it costs much of practice and is not just "throwing spaghetti against a wall".

  • @Funmichi Your right , the software is a tool, a virtual baton, an I-Baton. Learn to use your tools.

I'm surprised I wrote my original post.

  • @Funmichi but in the context of "Composing".

    - BT's and the others loop CDs really are for making a musical pastiche, I don't consider that composition. It not a value judgement, I just don't think the word applies.

    - tho, In my work I use loops , pre-composed bits , sparingly. It's work and love the loop Cd's.

    - for my personal work, all harmonic and rhythmic content is mine otherwise it's someone else s. I won't put myself in a position to call it BT's.

  • @juliedog464 Indeed!

  • @juliedog464 Who says that randomness can't be a form of composition? I am admittedly not familiar with this application, but randomness has been used for years by well-respected composers (admittedly most of them are modern and can be difficult to listen to, like Stockhausen and Xenakis). In this case, it seems like a bit of randomness can be used strategically in more of an improvisatory context to vary up the music.

  • This is a better version of Tim Exile/NI " The Finger " ..... It is better, but they have the original idea !!

  • This is a better version of Tim Exile/NI " The Finger " ..... It is better, but they have the original idea !!

  • boring...Made for people who don't want to learn a modular environment or are too lazy to microedit.

  • looks and sound amazing,

    pity about the price though

will have to start saving the pennys

  • Brian is the guy! I honestly don't know how his head does not explode!

  • Great VST!!Itried it with asus laptop WIN7/T7500@2,2 ghz/3 gb RAM,and CPU meter is between 1-9%.

  • I tried it with asus laptop win7,t7500@2,2 ghz,3gb ram and the processor load is about1-9%

  • Yeh the CPU meter is high but you don't know what else is going on in the project. Clever piece of software. :)

  • I am paying attention... to the CPU meter.

  • How THe Fuq do u control the overall output of this plugin... I put 3 stutter edits on my master and had it doing some crazy shit 2 my overall mix but its creating the "bad" type of distortion when i use the doubler n high pass filter effects. PLZ HELP!

  • Aphex Twin called, he wants his stutter back

  • Just did a new Quik-E video (#7 "Stutter Edit Nirvana") - showing this with more details about what is actually going on.... as long as companies produce videos like this, there will be a need for videos by me : >

  • can u control this vst with the apc 40?

  • does anyone know if the izotope stutter edit will work as a plug in while in re-wire mode? please write me.

  • @jermainestegall1 it should... just bus w/e instruments u want the effect on (that is coming out of reason) to a stereo track n put Stutter Edit on it. Create a new MIDI track, find the I/O section... and assign the Input to the MIDI controller u want 2 use 2 control Stutter Edit. Assign the Output of the MIDI channel 2 Stutter Edit. U will c Stutter Edit in the list if it is on any of ur Pro Tools channels. Now u can trigger Gestures from w/e midi controller u have routed through that channel

  • @sounddepth thanks for the reply

  • Been fiddling around with this for a few days now and while this plugin is VERY cool I just don't see the $150 price tag let alone whatever they eventually want to sell it for. It's not universal enough like all their other plugins for it to be worth it. IMO of course.

  • up effects in one bank for DJ who want to build and drop to another track. And I cant find a good one in Stutter that do the trick. Saw BT did it in NAMM tho!! Well, I am not BT, so as a user, or potential user like others, I want more examples of usage. I read the whole online help and it is def not enough!! Great plugin tho. Def beat any Sugar Bytes :)

  • Want to find more indept examples of how to use it. I think what make a plug-in great is support tutorials. Excuse my ignorance, but is there a good article somewhere to explain stutter effect in general and how to use it in different style of music? (I dj Nu Disco and Synth Pop). Also, more background knowledge of how to program it. In this video, all the Gesture you used is not in the preset. And I found all the preset are hard to use in my music when DJing. Like Artillery2, they group build

  • renoise beats the shit out of any stutter plugin

  • I use Automaton

  • 150$ hmmm to much

  • What"s the keyboard he is using in the video?

  • it's cool for some parts of the track i suppose

  • Comment removed

  • How do you record what your playing into a sequencer. I know this is for "live Remixing" but i want to do some of this on individual tracks in Pro tools. Im dumb... Plz put up a tutorial!

  • @sounddepth figured it out.... i got smart n decided 2 read the menu that came with it. THis plugin is by far the best i used. Better the Audio Damage Automaton, Sugar Bytes Effectrix, Image Line Groos Beat, etc N I OWN ALL!

  • @sounddepth bus the audio you want to screw with to an instrument track and put stutter edit on the instrument track that everything is bussed too and then you can record the midi notes you play on that track

  • Be interesting to see how this stands up to effectrix... I achieved a similar thing with that VST but this program seems to have nailed the live usage... Bit worried about that CPU meter though... don't think i'd trust my laptop being used at ~50% all night through a set... any spikes in CPU use might start to crash things

  • @Corrosionmusic I've got Effectrix and Lucifer and this looks to be a lot better. Will have to actually try it out to see though!

  • That is a sexy UI.

  • @CynosuralTheory Yeah! A really talented designer named Zack Isaacs did it. c:

  • @RaVe4EvR122

    AMEN!

  • That CPU meter sitting at almost 50% throughout the video is enough to make me a little weary...

  • @DJKyleRayner That's my thought too...time to check out the demo.

  • @DJKyleRayner i just tried it on my computer (wich is not so good) and the CPU meter was on like 5%

  • @DJKyleRayner checked out the demo....running at 4% here. No problem with the CPU what so ever...definitely buying this thins....quite amazing!

  • @DJKyleRayner can see your point, but I've been able to run four instances, PLUS OhmBoyz PLUS conv reverb in Live on a fairly avg spec laptop with no issues. The demo's worth a try...

  • @DJKyleRayner Doesn't use much of my speed. literally sitting at about 15% while running an advanced compressor style mixer in Ableton with this old school macbook pro 2.2 GHZ core 2 duo. So really not much to worry about.

  • @DJKyleRayner The demo was probably done with a laptop that is a couple years old. A Mac Pro tower would have very low CPU usage with this tool.

Of greater concern is the price and what the future is for Stutter Edit. The $200 street price is high. Beyond the high price, is SE going to become another overused effect like AutoTune? It sure looks like this is its destiny.

  • @DJKyleRayner To be fair you'd probably just bounce it down once you got the effect you wanted (assuming you're producing not playing live)

  • @DJKyleRayner I have produced over 180 songs and not once has my cpu "burned up" from chilling at 50% from some projects. Hell its been at 70% before. Buy an aftermarket cpu cooler and you're fine.

  • Hmm.. Looks nice; but I think I'll stick with my favourite free and super awesome VST plugin Glitch by illformed pretty much does the same thing in this demo... Pretty interface though. Did I mention dbGlitch is free?

  • @storyoflightanddark Only thing is Glitch doesn't work on Mac, so we're stuck with Effectrix etc.

  • People you need to pay attention here. This product is not like the other buffer cutting/glitch tools. How many of those tools can do a 1024 note gesture down to a 16th note over a bar while sweeping the pitch, adding lo-fi effects and keeping it all on beat? The answer is none, only stutter edit gives you that kind of control.

  • @RaVe4EvR122 You can do that with The Finger, especially if you cue snapshots. I imagine Artillery could do it as well but I haven't really played with that much.

  • yeah guys...its called reaktor...and sugar bytes....

    seems cool though

my question is though..how does one control an efx wants you chucked it in say an audio track/midi...? i mean control it in real time..i cant figure out that ish...i always manually draw in the automation that i want but i cant use the midi controller to control it..

  • similar to sugar bytes effectrix. same price range also.

  • This sure does seem similar to Tim Exile's 'The Finger'; is it really "unique" like the description says?

  • Finally!!! Thumbs up if you been waiting for this to release like forever...

  • Yeah, I want it

  • - I'm gonna rape this PLUGIN !! lol ....

  • holy fuck, i can't wait to get this

  • Not expensive at all....$149. GET IT

  • Also, this is pretty sweet, but I'm wondering about the price tag...

  • First!
