neato!!!! I thought about making a video of one I saw. actually, I think i posted the pic on facebook! But, you know what? The one I saw was really black and really huge! Mabye that means we are going to have a very confused winter!!!
i had never heard caterpillars were toxic at all just that if you touch them it hurts !!! but all the ones i had seen were green, this is a cutie orange one! per what i read above they have sort of a change with time i.e. their maturity? good vid five* i love all animals and insects included xoxo
I never did either until someone said they were I looked it up and there not.I have always picked up caterpillars and the never made me sick! Thanks for stopping by :)
thank you for sharing the vid, it was so cute. anyway you know caterpillars or any other bug never make me sick, on the contrary i used to play with worms (but plain, soft) when i was a kid but caterpillars pinch you like needles ... as obviously some day i must have tried to play with one LOL have a great day :)
Usually these hairy catepillars are toxic and deadly for dogs,, or ifyou brush aginst a host of them on pine trees, now I don't want to do this critter an injustice, but is that the way they are considered too where you come from.
Is that one of those toxic woolly worms? I have no clue really but most often when we have them woolly crawlies type caterpillars here you can't go walk on the woods where they are because the hairs in the air may irritate your throat so much that you can not breathe anymore.
I forget how that goes ...if its thick hair or what? I tryed to write you on mypace but dont think it went thru...Nice to get your video...hope all is well with you...love deb
I've been worried about that because of unending health issues. They say it'll be extremely cold, but I've noticed the wolly worms don't agree. I trust the critters.
Cute little guy!

Cool! I never heard of this kind of weather prediction until now. I'm guessing it's a regional thing?

There was a wooley bear caterpillar here with a wide orange band, I thought that meant it would be a longer winter?
badbearwatch 2 years ago
Longer orange means mild.More dark brown or black means harsh winter and white ones mean snow!
proofisinthepudding 2 years ago
That's great then, all the ones I saw so far, big orange in the middle, cool!
badbearwatch 2 years ago
I just looked it up it is the more black on each end is harsher winter. But actually that is the maturity of caterpillar!

The ones up here in western NY look like that too. I'm guessing that means a mild winter but who knows?

This year in NC, most of the wooly worms I have been seeing are almost completely black. Not the usual black and orange....is that a bad sign???
MyRealityBytes 2 years ago
Yeah ,depends on where the black is.I will find a link to put in the side bar !
