My camcorder is nothing like that. But its a nice 40gb panasonic hard drive camcorder. I notice it has difficulty picking up a very quick flash. There is a setting that lets me adjust shutter speed. But when I lower the shutter speed the screen gets a bit darker. Do you think lowering the shutter speed can help catch higher quality lightning video?
Getting good video of lightning can be tricky. At shutter speeds of 1/60th or higher, depending on exactly when the flash occurs (and for how long) you may only expose a portion of the frame(s) to the strike, leaving you with a bad result. My recommedation is to use a shutter speed of 1/30th. This usually allows enough time for at least one frame (maybe more) to be exposed to the full strike. Lowering the shutter speed should actually brighten your video, although it may also get more grainy.
I understand how certain types of camera's are not so good for capturing lightning! My HD camera is one of those camera's. But it can pick up on lightning inside the cloud, or far away. We got one heck of a lightning display down here last night, but I hate that my camera sucks at capturing lightning. Every once in a while I would get some good shots. I should have that video up by Sunday.

@Shakyvideos I realize your comment is old lol, so you may have figured it out by now....... But I'll answer anyway :P
It could be that you're shooting at 60i, which is interlaced. Simply de-interlace your footage in editing
