  • aaah planescape.... the elder god of rpg's....never before or since has a video game left such an everlasting impression on me. i loved it as a kid, now that i'm older i can truely aprecciate it's sheer brilliance.... no other game sends me into fits of nostalgia like this one.

  • hello yes can someone please go to my channel and look at my video for this game i am having trouble trying to play this game please help thank you

  • My alignment wont change from True Neutral, I've even done the whole Grimoire of Pestilential Thought, and it still hasnt changed. is this a bug?

  • I just finished the game, and it was probably the best one I've ever played, but looking back at the intro, who's the berk at 1:12 ?

  • I seriously hope you guys play Torment in the widescreen patch.

  • I bought the game a month ago and just completed it recently.

Rather 'depressing' ending shall I say, but the game had a VERY interesting story. I love those Amnesia types of stories.

  • @MrFraserFilms2009 I didn't find the ending to be depressing - I don't want to go into spoilers here, but I found it to very nicely wrap up the story and was really the only "good" thing that could have happened. Hard to comment without spoilers, but it was a satisfying conclusion, in my opinion.

  • @MrFraserFilms2009

well let me just ask you, were you able to use weapons in this game?

  • While all of my friends were playing Final Fantasy VII, I was playing Planescape: Torment.

    Felt good man.

  • 7 Nameless's couldn't awaken at this point

  • @MrFraserFilms2009

I am not a dick, I help you: Visit the Fallout WIKI and search for "rope".^^ There you will find all answers. Besides just type "rpg guide" into your internet search machine and you will find a ton of walkthroughs for all classic Black Isle games. Merry Christmas.

  • @MrFraserFilms2009 Fable is probably more your game.

  • Thumbs up for Planescape Torment 2

  • Fuck those boring RPG-Games from Bethesda. Black Isle is the real deal.

  • @ToughGuyver

You've made me want to play Skyrim even more than your crappy Black Isle. Don't be a dick next time you want to promote this game

  • @OniGlalie

Compared to Planescape Torment Skyrim is just a plane.

  • @ToughGuyver

Nah really. Insulting good games to promote your favorite ones won't work with me, even if they're good games. Merry Christmas!

  • @ToughGuyver Ugh, never say that on YouTube. So many people are intolerant of both companies, even though FUCKING BETHESDA IS MADE UP OF PPL FROM BLACK ISLE. Dumb shits don't realize, but still, I think both companies make fun games.

  • @paintballforlife100 Bethesda has nobody from black isle.

  • @paintballforlife100 lol

    get your facts straight.

there is NO ONE from Black isle in Bethesda.

    the BI is in Obsidian.

  • This is the RPG that set the bar for me 12 years ago. So many blockbuster releases since then have fallen so, so short. This game gets in your head and won't let go.

  • Still the only game thats perfect in my eyes.

  • I just watched the final boss and the ending of Risen.... and at the end i thought...: What garbage this is. Compared to this diamond of a computer game.....

  • @Dabidapp

    Yes! Black Isle forever!

  • I finished this game two hours ago.

    I'm still ejaculating buckets. Wildly.

  • @jimjulius I thought of that, too!

Could it be The Nameless One drowned him after he tricked him into Ravel's trap?

  • Why doesnt this have like a million of views?

  • @Naverpace because sadly not many played this amazing game

  • @dageezerboi

Than let them rot with boring games like Morrorwind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, ... :-)

  • @ToughGuyver I wanted to thumbs you up....but Bethesda is not a fucking bad company, don't just get any current popular games company and mock it for no reason you no-life loser. BETHESDA ROCKS, BLACK ISLE ROCKS, BIOWARE ROCKS....only you suck..

  • @327Magnum

I respect your taste, cutter, but I like Fallout New Vegas, which is made by Obsidian/Black Isle, 1000 times more than that boring Fallout 3, wich is made by Bethesda (what a coincidence!). Bethesda don't know how to tell a exciting story.

  • @ToughGuyver Believe what you want to believe, but your belief no matter what you do shall still remain opinion and not a fact!

  • @327Magnum

    "Ok, chief", Morte said.^^

  • Nothing we've seen in the years since it's release has topped this game. Nothing.

  • where can i find/buy this game? this was given to me as a gift way back 14 yrs old or so and i didnt have a opportunity to play it since i was just 7 or 8 and now im 21 i really want to play this game >.<

  • @hwoarang425 Purchasable cheaply and as a digital download (with no DRM) from Good Old Games (google that, as youtube hates external links).

  • @hwoarang425 There is now a release that contains all the classic Dungeons and Dragons Games from Bioware, including BG, BG2, Torment, IWD and IWD2 and expansions. Last time I've chedked it was around 19 USD on Amazon.

  • @hwoarang425 gog.com

  • One of the greatest games ever made. I doubt it will be surpassed.

  • Still the finest RPG I have ever played....nothing before or since has even come CLOSE to evoking the kind of emotion Planescape: Torment did. It's truly a testament to imagination and creativity in gaming.

  • This game scared me quite a bit as a kid.

  • I just finished the game (loved it) but re-watching the opening, I'm a bit confused. Who's the zombie girl at 1:10? Who's the guy at 1:12? What's the scene at 1:18? If someone could explain those to me, I'd be very grateful! :)

  • @osirisvir I always thought the zombie girl was someone from his first life, his daughter or wife. And I think she's the same one at 0:45. I thought the drowning guy at 1:12 might be the archer? There's a point where one of the flashbacks or journals mentions an archer you betrayed. (I think it is the practical incarnation?) He's one of the zombies in the mortuary. You can cut him up for something you left yourself.

  • @lightcastle99 The archer is Xacharias. He followed your practical incarnation along with Morte, Dak'kon and Deionarra. He was a blind archer (it's great to see they had cool character concepts even for those who aren't in the story!).

    But no, that's not hi,

  • @Owneador1337 Hmm.. If that's not him, then I really have no idea who it is supposed to be.

  • @lightcastle99 The devs said those were early game character concepts and/or random people from Sigil who never got into the final storyboard (since this was made at an early stage).

  • @osirisvir I'm not sure what the scene at 1:18 is. It looks like them burying the Nameless One alive?

  • Like if "Top Ten: Video Games, tips, and hints" brought you here

  • *Sigh* I remember getting this game last year wondering what the fuss was about. I stayed up all night, every night playing this for a month. Never before has a videogame tapped into my emotions an made me think like Planescape. I mourn the loss of Black Isle, but I'm glad both Bioware and Obsidian are still making brilliant games. If Bethesda decides to make 1st person sequel to Planescape like with Fallout...it will be a tragedy.

  • I've always assumed this was a sci-fi inspired RPG. Is it, or is this dark fantasy ala Dragon Age and Witcher?

  • @ShakinJamacian Planescape is a Dungeons and Dragons setting - it's definitely fantasy. :)

  • @Joudas Okie dokes. Thanks. I've recently gotten into CRPGs thanks to The Witcher series, and I've decided to give all of the more renowned ones a shot. Though they have to be fantasy based. ;3

  • @ShakinJamacian It's definitely fantasy, albeit a very dark, often depressing fantasy set in the planescape world. Far darker than the likes of The Witcher and DA. It's incredibly unique and not just the best of all the Black Isle/Bioware games but the best RPG and game off all time imo. If there is a game with a better story and a better cast of characters then I sure as hell haven't played it.

  • @Joudas It's much, much darker than traditional fantasy though.

  • @Joudas It is fantasy, but it is definitely not your typical fantasy. It is indeed dark and with alot of adult themes. It is also kinda twisted and far deeper that typical fantasy involving philosophical/existential themes and such. And it has a few elements of both sci-fi and stampunk.

  • @ShakinJamacian it is a dark fantasy but contains certian elements of steampunk. Basically witcher + fallout 3 - the bad stuff and tech.

  • @ShakinJamacian please don't mention dragon age and witcher together with planescape torment.....

  • now THIS brings back memories! Time to play torment again

  • yo fags can i play this on win7?

  • @pumpkinsoul12 No, you're fucked. Sorry. :(

  • @pumpkinsoul12 If i good remember Microsoft offers free virtual machine winXP for all who have Win7 so just download it, instal... and hope it works on XP :)

  • the best RPG GAME OF ALL TIME... this game is not about graphics or any 3d multi million bucks or focusing on amazing weapons BUT the GAMEPLAY itself... the story is unmatched and more importantly the character is not saving anyone... amazing game... masterpiece...

  • Hey guys, i made a steam group dedicated for Planescape PC gamers. We have a weekly Planescape chat. Just search "PLPCG"in steam, and join :).

  • A friend sorta spoiled this game for me by telling me who the the nameless one actually is. is the game still worth it, is it that big a spoiler?

  • @111random Definitely still worth it. Depending on what he told you, it might not even be that big of a spoiler.

  • @111random I've finished it, and I still don't REALLY know who he is. Nobody does ;)

  • The best pc game i have ever played, damn i miss games like this.Baldurs gate, fallout, arcanum, gothic, i miss games like that.Nowadays everything is a shooter with no purpose but to kill everyone.

  • Does it run on Win 7 64 bit?

  • I played this game when it first come out in 1999. Every now and then I still re-play this game. Somehow this game keep me thinking about each of characters, I wonder what if I can live in this game ....just for ... a while. Is it just a game or something else?

  • How far do the outlands stretch?

  • My 2nd best game ever! (the 1st is Morrowind)

  • This game was so awesome.

  • All RPG style games should be made with the creativeness and care that Torment, Baldur's Gate, and Icewind Dale were made with. It puts me in a foul mood to play the garbage they put out today and still compare it to these. These were true role playing games. Now games have no story, character depth, and almost zero appeal. I mourn the loss of the RPG genre.

  • I just started this game and I am blown away by the amount of depth the characters have. I really wish rpgs were made like this nowadays.

  • Just played this game and this is like, the most unique game ever. I mean you have to think what you say there's no big (Persuasion) sign to click if you want to persuade to other guy, and the narration, characters, story this is just fucking epic, I mean the sucky graphics doesn't even matter anymore. I'm playing Fallout: New Vegas right now, but screw Fallout I'm playing torment.

  • Words cannot describe How awesome this game is. Best RPG ever made. And its sad that there will be no more RPG's like this.

    Truly a Masterpiece.

  • @SuskenHizamura There may be..although it is likely to be an independent game instead of one by a big publisher.

  • This is why I love PC gaming.

This is why we love PC gaming.

    PC gaming RULES!

  • This intro has so many small pointers to the previous lives of the Nameless One, I can never get tired of watching it. I still find this to be one of the greatest (if not, the greatest) RPG of all time.

  • You know, *one thing* about this game always kind of annoyed me. They make a big deal about being sent to the crematorium, being incinerated, etc. They describe in detail your body repairing itself.

But are you telling me, in all of the countless deaths TNO has suffered, there wasn't one there where he, like, fell into lava, somewhere where there'd be no recovery? What happens then? D:

  • @Frostiken You can actually get your body incinerated during the game - that's one of the few ways to 'actually' die and get a game-over screen - Ignus can do it for/to you. The Lady of Pain can kill him permanently, too, if you piss her off enough, there's a point where you can obtain a blade which, if you choose to use it on yourself, kills you permanently, and there's a few other NPCs that can do it, too.

  • @Joudas yeah that badass skeletor guy Lothar can as well if you piss him off

  • @Joudas and you can get eaten by some freak

  • @Joudas There also was that one wizard, the Master of Bones or something, right? He can unmake if you piss him off, and Morte warns you not to annoy him.

  • @Frostiken dude, where he'll find lava? He pretty much lived ALL his lives in Sigil

  • @Frostiken In fact The Transcendent One has a great business in keeping you (Nameless One) alive, so... you know... your hero literally. Like Superman. He also says somethink like that in a last talk, that he was guiding you to keep you away from solving "your common problem". It's easy to believe because it's llogical - his existence is build on your state, he needs you alive, retarded, crazy and forgotten... and alive.

To live with not comprehension of your situation at all of course.

  • its more of a book then a game imagine it updated with modern graphic cutscenes and voice dialogue i would cry when playing it

  • My personal number one of all time.

  • A question I've always wondered, what is the horrible crime has committed the Nameless One (Yemeth who could be her real name) during his lifetime, his real life.

We know he was already friends with Morte at the time and he was he who told him to go find Ravel for become immortal and so escape the Blood War, but for what reason he has done?

  • @XtremeItachou He wasn't friends with Morte, Morte was ripped off the pillar by Practical incarnation and he was the second last incarnation before the start of the game

  • @00RiderOfTheStorm00 Actually, the Practical Incarnation wasn't the second last incarnation. Morte even tells you himself, you've been traveling together for a while now. Dak'kon too. Your Paranoid/Insane Incarnation even complains that Deionarra was haunting him. There were several incarnations between your first visit to the Fortress and the game itself.

  • @Terralventhe you might be right about Practical not being the second last, but it is hinted that Practical and Paranoid were recent incarnations. For example you have that women which gives you a trapped scroll left to her by Paranoid incarnation and it is heavily implied that Paranoid incarnation was undoing the work of Practical incarnation and the two hate each other, however it is possible that there were few incarnations in between but were not important and didn't do anything important

  • Towards the end of the game you find out where Morte came from: a Pillar of Skulls on the plane of Baator. Morte was pulled out by the Practical Incarnation from the pillar. The pile is composed of the skulls of all the people who died and have caused another to die through their lies. Morte's torment comes from the fact that he, prior to his death, lied to the Good Incarnation and told him that Ravel could make him immortal, and is thus responsible for the Nameless One's lamentable condition.

  • @00RiderOfTheStorm00

No, he knows Morte before the immortal ritual. Morte was on the pillar because he lied to the good incarnation (the first, the human nameless one).

If you not believe me, is also writing on the Planescape Torment Wiki:

  • @XtremeItachou You are correct, but I said that they weren't friends(companions), not that they didn't encounter each other before(and when I said Morte I mean skull Morte we all know and love, not him being alive :) )

  • @00RiderOfTheStorm00

I'd have to recheck the entire dialogue but I think they know a minimum (companions or acquaintance) before going to see Ravel (may even be that Morte was there when the Nameless One has committed his crime). Also, the name of Morte when he was human is " Mortimer Rictusgrin ".

But yes, it might be my utopian dream to imagine the human Nameless One (a Warrior) and the human Morte (a Rogue) traveling the world still human and carefree ^^.

  • Play. This. Game. On. Acid.

  • Deffo one of the best games on the PC....ever

  • nostalgia ;_; ...i was borne in 2000... but i have nostalgia vision enabled, is not shity graphhics, is an art style with outstanding direction and glorious design. truly, a game's game!

  • @MsBickle76 yes love the oldschool cgi! The story is great, the whole nameless imortal thing was used before in wagners parsifal for kundry

  • ahh good times... i think it's time to reinstall it

  • What the FUCK is this!?

    ...Imma go buy it now!

  • Sic transit gloria mundi.

  • Best game ever- its just so emotionally strong, actually this is not the best game, this is the best story IMHO, I've never read or watched such a great story in my life the only reason I think this game is not known by many is because the story gets better as you play the game, but the beginnning is very confusing and weird for many people I guess...

  • Looks like it's gonna be a great game. Supposedly it has alot of dialogue so if you don't like that, it may not be for you. This is set to be relased in late 1999. Can't wait.

  • #8 best PC game of all time.

  • @jakkied1 Fail.

  • @Joudas Read PC gamer it is official proof., yeah It does fail that this game isn't the best, The theme is mainly based on regrets, no game other than this one has done that before, which is why it is a good reason it is #8 out of 100.

  • @jakkied1 I'd hardly call PC Gamer the definitive source on game rankings. :) "In PC Gamer's staff's opinion, this is the 8th best PC game of all time."

  • Comment removed

  • @jakkied1 i would call it number 1 personally. there aint no better RPG out there anyway..

  • I'd give up an arm for someone to get the voice cast back together to record every line of dialogue in this game. It's just too bad that Tony Jay is no longer with us.

  • I wish Obsidian would make a sequel to this game.

  • @gpro83 I dont think Obsidian would be able to do it justice nowadays. Or any developer for that matter. Doesnt need a sequel anyway.

  • @dageezerboi I agree. It would be nearly impossible to recreate something like this. It's a shame though because this setting is a gold mine because basically anything you can think up can exist in planescape. With possibilties like that I don't understand why some company hasn't picked up this license yet?

  • @dageezerboi Exactly. It must be the only great CRPG that has never had a sequel. As such it is wonderful , just on it's own.

  • The best game I've played, the mood, the story, but especially the characters. I know there will never be a sequel because whatever they make will not come close to this actual game, the only thing they may attempt is a remake. The only other game I played that came close to this was mask of the betrayer, the nwn2 expansion.

  • i miss the old cd based video intros in games. I loved their low res and fps! Bring em back!

  • I have just started plowing my way through this game (granted my only experience with "old school" RPGs being Baldurs Gate 1& 2....took me 3 days of replays just to see how many ways to get out of the Mortuary are there and another 3 just to find Pharrod because i didn't collect the junk from the Mortuary) and all i can say is WOW. The only critic i can throw at it is that this bizzare and fascinating world was a bit hard to get into but once you get in it's quite a journey.

  • I cannot express how good this game is, so I'm not even going to try. This is a game that everyone should play especially story driven RPG fans in particular.

  • is it just me or does the main character look like raziel from legacy of kain???

  • @Suetakefan It's just you. Note the lower jaw and the generally more present feeling of, ahem, bulkiness:)

  • @Mantaur104 meh

  • My favorite RPG of all time. A true masterpiece.

  • Too bad i have a horrible Polish dubbing version.Ugh!

  • @TheEloeo

It's not that bad... It's actually great.

  • @TheEloeo - co jest takiego złego w polskiej wersji?/ what's wrong with the Polish version?

  • I've finished the game, but I still can't figure out, who's that drowning man?

  • @azuresaber Probably just someone TNO has seen die, nobody you were supposed to meet ingame, really.

  • Love, hatred, power, greed, betrayal, death, regret, age, suffering, success, the planes themselves...

What can change the nature of a man?

  • @briansrl12

Let me know if you do :]

My discs are screwed up apparently and torrents are something I'm not accustomed to working with...

  • is good game gays?

  • who is that guy drowning and later with the knives?

  • Homer Simpson voiced a character in Planescape Torment...

    Anyone care to guess who?

  • @moofassa22

    Nordom the Modron! :)

  • planescape - better than sex.

  • This game is so amazing, watching this brings back so many good memories. Simply incredible

  • for the ones who will play planescape, a site with an unnoficial patch, restoration pack and tweaks, look for spellholdstudios . net on google.

  • Does the 1.1 patch come with the dvd release?

  • @erik15792 No, you gotta download it on the dvd release.

  • Compare this to, say, Neverwinter Nights. It's as if skilled, knowledgable storytellers have vacated the games industry.

  • One of the best game intros ever. So beautiful and emotional, and obviously - well made.

  • Has anyone else who's played this game noticed how twisted some of the themes presented are? Examples. Everyone you meet is twisted or insane in some way, and the text during conversations with NPC's even points out how messed up they are. Then add in the themes of embracing death and mourning the living. Incredible game, I'm wondering if people notice these things while playing.

  • Planescape in general (as a setting) deals heavily with these themes - I'd definitely call it one of the more mature D&D settings. As far as Torment goes, I think they did a fantastic job of capturing the Planescape multiverse and adapting it for a videogame.

  • Yeah it's definitely the darkest atmosphere I've ever seen in a game, makes you feel captivated and depressed at the same time. Beautiful yet bleak. It's even darker then Silent Hill IMO and I didn't think anything could be more disturbing then that.

  • @Iconoclast12100 I think that's kind of the point of the game -- to notice those things. It's about regret, guilt, and responsibility. You're not the hero, you're the protagonist -- and in fact, you're actually the villain. I think part of the point is that a) you can't change you're own nature, and b) because of you're fallen nature, you deserve your fate -- which is why the game can only end one way, no matter the path you took to get there.

  • @tjhoenecke Always remember that your actions have consequences. The pain and harm you leave in your wake as you live your life, you may never know how much damage you've done to others -- but you will have to answer for it one day, and there's nothing you can do to escape that fate. The harder TNO tried to deny those truths, the deeper the hole he dug for himself, sin after sin, crime upon crime.

  • Congratulations, your to stupid to appreciate story, and only like combat. I think you should go and play some FPSes.

  • And *you're* *too* stupid to identify the difference between you're and your, to and too, and properly use them. Congratulations.

  • And your a grammar nazi.

  • You're, my good sir. *You're* a grammar *Nazi* (note that Nazi should be capitalized.)

I don't really consider pointing out blatant, juvenile spelling and/or grammar errors to be Nazi-like behavior, and would love to hear your reasoning as to how this is the case.

  • Actually, nazi is a proper noun and thus should be punctuated. ...Probably.

  • When someone calls somebody a NAZI, it only shows a sign of how unintelligent they are.

  • @Joudas the only capitalisim nazi's deserve is capital punishment...

  • @Bunters196 While I understand what you're saying (and that it's meant as a joke) I do feel the need to point out that it's not a matter of deserving or not deserving capitalization; it's the proper name of a group, therefore, we capitalize it. Sure, they might not deserve recognition, but it's still grammatically incorrect to not capitalize it.

  • @Joudas sorry grammar police...

  • @TheAnonftw Oh, that's very "intelligent" of you... Moron. Go sit down before you hurt yourself!

  • The best game ever can change the nature of a man?

  • I recently decided to play through Torment again, and it is still as fantastic as it was back in the old days. A truly unique masterpiece.

I urge anyone who has not played this game to run out and buy it. "You can get a new copy for cheap on amazon".

For anyone who has played it before I think its about time to do it again. And see why as great as some games are today, most still don't reach this level of storytelling, character design, or atmosphere.

Be sure to get the community updates. :)

  • Best game ever!!

  • Is this game really on par or better than BG Series??? I might pick it up.

  • It really depends on which aspects of BG you liked. Planescape has a far superior story - the storytelling is superb, but there's a lot of it. If you aren't willing to read, a lot, you probably won't enjoy it. If you're the type to skip dialogue to get back to the combat, you will not like Torment. The combat is a very, very minor part of the game (and is for the most part either completely avoidable or trivial in difficulty). If you look at it like an interactive novel, it's fantastic.

  • hmm I love BG2 for its story, but its balance for combat as well. The tactics involved and the difficulty.
