  • her personal life was pretty sad

  • Fantastic

  • I was sporting a Veronica Lake hairdo and was actually told to put it up when entering a factory floor at one time:)

  • Oh Gawd! I used to work with a gorgeous petite stunningly pretty little blond who looked like Verinica Lake; come to think of it, she was actually WAY prettier than Veronica but you get what I mean. Oh the lost opportunities!

  • Veronica Lake was such a lovely lady!

  • She looks like Disney's sleeping beauty, Aurora :D A timeless beauty!

  • like that hairstyle :)

  • I remember reading that Gone With the Wind's snood hairstyles also became popular for factory working women because it also kept the hair out.

  • Thank god for hairties...

  • ke privazione!

  • I assumed what Ms. Lake wore was called a French roll , as I never heard the hairstyle being called a victory roll , any way , good for her for what she did .

  • Veronica looks exactly like my mom when she was young and mom was a true rosie the riviter. The narrator sounds like Eugene (Ed) Kern could be wrong about that one though.

  • Career killer.

  • War...huh! What is it good for? Absolutely, HAIRSTYLES!

  • @ChristopherJManess lmao nice take on that

  • Preach on, Lorne Greene. A War Way of Life is the only real way of life.

  • That Veronica Lake is a gorgeous woman. Both hairstyles she sported were awesome. Don't cut your hair! Okay, now back to the WWII vids for me... haha

  • I love her sine I was a teen.

  • Alan Ladd is awesome. I just bought some of his movies from lovingtheclassics. They should arrive to me soon.

I found the site by searching on google for lovingtheclassics after I saw it in a message board.

  • Have you seen this video called " Gene Kelly\Cid|Charisse Opening A Colorful show" from Breton2Robert. WOW and the ending is crazy

  • Is the narrator Lorne Greene by any chance?

  • whats the hair style at 0:50 called? i love it ive been searching for tutorials but i cant find any? =[

  • it was good of her to make this film

i always tucked my tie inside my shirt when i went inside the plants

It's too bad hollywood didnt look after her, her later life was a disgrace of hollywood's lack of gratitude

  • she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen :o

  • too bad shes DEAD

  • Victory roll.....didn't she end her days as a waitress?

    sounds like Orson Welles....

  • Une vidéo très intéressante. Merci

Thanks a lot, for this document

  • OHHH MY GODDD I wish I could see some chicks that looked like Veronica. DAMN IS SHE HOT. Most every girl now days dress slutty or weird. I think we need to go back to the 40s again. good times

  • You DO know there is a whole bunch of us that have done just that? ;-) These girls do still exist.

  • Yea, and what do you look like?

  • Well, i look like shit but that's because I'm going hunting in about an hour, and I'm a guy so I'm not pretty and neat and all cleaned up all the time like the girls are but also if you are slutty or weird sorry if I offended you.

  • Your basic statement is you're a guy so don't have to look good, sorry no exemption. We like eye candy too. You say we look better, take better care of ourselves, yet think we're suppose to amp it up just for you. Who do you think you are? You wouldn't have a chance in the 40s. Women demanded respectful treatment then. Your attitude wouldn't sit well with a 40s woman. If we went back you would be alone. Perhaps you are anyway. Not worried if you think me slutty or weird so not offended.

  • I believe you have mistaken my comments...I respect wemon and I've been growing up in an enviroment where everyone, no matter who you are deserve respect. Yes, when I go to school every morning I shower and try to look good, and no I don't believe that wemon are supposed to amp it up just for us men. Some of the wemon I go to school with...It's hard to explain, I'm not sure if you know what I'm talking about or not, but I'm sure you get the general idea.

  • I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • It's alright, I'm easily misunderstood...I suppose.

  • *Women.

  • Yeahhh typoessss. Gotta love em.

  • Interesting- Ms Lake passed away in 1973........RIP

  • WOW. i wonder what she looks like now. She was beautiful.

  • two words, PONY TAIL

  • cool

  • On a more serious note, I think it was a way for men to continue dictating to women from afar. And the Movie bosses who Ms Lake wouldn't sleep with made her cut her hair-in the end!

  • This is so awesome. I love old safety movies like this. And her new and old hair was so pretty :).

  • Dita von Teese? No thanks.

  • This video makes a good point. What if their long hair had gotten stuck in a machine?! Eek!

Also, didn't Rosie the Riveter have short hair?

  • I had a cousin that was working in a factory, got her long hair stuck in a convayer (sorry I have no idea how to spell that) belt and got her scalp ripped off.

  • wow that is 1 hot chick. she looks gorgeous in either hairdo. hot girls look hot no matter what they wear/style up as.

  • We don't have a fashion icon to follow anymore do me? The last I can remember is Britney Spears with her midriff tops.

  • agreeeed

  • Now that hairstyle is awesome!!

  • thanks for this video now i get extra credit in my WW2 history class :D

  • Narrator sounds like Jose Ferrer.

  • This video is so amazing!! Thanks.

  • Veronica was such a beautiful young women. I was in love with her back in those good ol' days. Girls nowadays should try to be like REAL women such as Veronica Lake. Sorry boys, I had to delete my old comment because I spelled Veronica's name wrong.

  • what a dame !!!Too bad her last days were spent in poverty .

  • I know. She died a very sad person and very unhealthy.

  • Yikes, those 'safety caps' are dreadful! Safety is important but I recall seeing photos from the era showing that some women covered their hair with cleverly wrapped headscarves or turbans when working in war plants.

  • oh my! veronica's hair looks gorgeous here;) I mean the after-version of course. do any of you know how to make such hairstyle? if yes, may I ask for a tutorial or something?

  • in spite of long hair...just looking at those machinery with nowadays eyes they look awfully dangerous anyway!

  • Those exact machines are still in use in factories across the country. Back then, they built machinery to last.

  • Veronica Lake was really a true patriotic in the times of the war. She oftened help raised money to help the soldiers. Is very sad that today Veronica Lake had been forgotten.

Her's movies is so rarely seen on the TV.

  • That's sadly true, but her persona style came beyond her era, she's an icon. Renee Zellwegger, Kim Bassinger (L.A. Confidential),... Jessica Rabbit! and many others was inspired by her.

  • Veronica Lake had the coolest hair style ever. Even today on red carpets I've seen stars like Renee Zellwegger and Amy Adams try to imitate it. Veronica keep your hair! Women shouldn't be stupid enough to work with machinery without their hair up anyway! lol.

  • I wear this hair to school! It's so comfy and classy at the same times...

I agree with babicherry93. I love those fashions!

  • how do you do it? is it just twisting?

  • I wish this tyoe of 40s fashion would come back

  • wear it anyway! i do! it makes you unique and interesting. take inspiration from people like dita von teese.

  • @babicherry93

    i wish the same.. :)

  • @babicherry93 yeaa mee to =)

  • get ready ladies - were on our way here again

  • The style she is wearing is known as "Victory Rolls", because of the "V" shape the rolls from in the in the back!" Cool, huh!

  • She looked like princess leia

  • So true. Would never want to get hair caught in machinery

  • Wow~! Beautiful :)

  • Veronica Lake even looked gorgeous with her hair up!

  • Haha, war-time fashions! Great video thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for uploading this! Did you know that the change in Veronica Lake's hairstyle ended her career? Absolutely true. People didn't like her without her 'witchlock'.

  • Wow, Veronica was beautiful! Thanks for uploading this. ^_^

  • True-that. And today we don't make much of anything any more so it will never again be a problem.
