what a strange movie. I do like dark comedies, but I wanted a bit more laughs and this film felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be. I didn't know their was a novel, so maybe I'll start reading this book. Ive often heard that movie don't do the book justice. After all, this is a movie about an author.
(While channel surfing today, just happened to see this again for the first time in over two decades, and of all the times to tune in it was right before the accident where one of Garp's two young sons is killed and the other one loses his eye.)
@facetina Keep you criticisms to yourself, you're just showing your igonrance towards movie making. So stop leaving stupid comments and get back to your Transformers 2 or whatever other pieces of shit you probably like. You obviously searched up the movie to put your dumbass comment on, whats the point?
@TheRocknRollfreak fuck u ! I just wasted 2 hours with this garbage.I was so disappointed at the end that I dont see the point of making this stupid piece of shit. This is not sad , La vita è bella 1997 is sad !
World according to shit is garbage!
And yes Transformers 2 is even below garbage its like vomit diharea combine!
i love the book i've read it 9 times. and i'm going to make you all jealous, i wrote John Irving a letter, and he wrote back, and sent me a copy of another of his books, a widow for one year. i only wish the movie were more true to the novel, because, John Irving is a creative genius, also, i hate Robin Williams as Garp, grumble.
and also, as a recomendation, read all of his books, especially a widow for oe year, the fourth hand, Garp, and a mprayer for owen meany.
I know, but it was hii writing style, plus yoou cna tlel, if it says something like, i loved youur letter glad you liked the book ect ect... then it's a hirey but i know for sure it was him by the style and how he paid attention to what i said in the letter =)
if you're implying that someone else wrote the letter I know you're wrong, there's no question, I've written to authors before and I can tell when I'm sent a generic response or one that's simply been printed over and over and signed. lol.
no dick, biatch, you aint right. im sure youve bothered a million mailmen by adding to their heavy load every single day when they make their rounds in beveryl hills or hollywood or whatever/whoever's addresses you obtain
lol and you also need to capitalize the starting letter of a sentence, and youre missing some commas too, ass wipe. dont find those pussy little ways to criticize my youtube-typing when 1) youre not typing well either and 2) you can't come up with any other ways to say I'm wrong..; you know i am right bitch, about everything. so go back to bed with your parents.
I never saw the movie, but the book was alright. The movie might be a bit different though, because some things in the book they would never put on t.v.
This is a great film by a great director, George Roy Hill (The Sting, Slap Shot, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)....but the real genius lies in John Irving's book, from which this was adapted. I still love this film 20 years after first seeing it as a youngster...
oh hell no, they cast everyone wrong, especially Jenny, Garp, and Helen. Helen was supposed to be veautiful, but in a plain way, Jenny was just all wrong, an dgarp was supposed to be small, dark, and very hndsome. Robin Williams is none of those, nor is he the best actor. the book was fantastic, but the movie did it no justice.
i can't recall there was an airplane crashing into a house in the book :/

They totally killed the book.

They didn't stand a chance, though. The book's a masterpiece and wway too nuanced for the big screen.
