Interpretations on any holy book don't impress me much since depending on the person you can get contradictory views. So I can only rely on things like sharia law or how it is lived to base my view of islam on. As atheist I'm in general equally against all religions, like you can find in any religion the crazies and the meek, religion enables both.

The idea that a Muslim cannot leave the faith on pain of death shows that Islam is autocratic and cold. A child who is born to Muslim parents, raised as a Muslim, but as an adult comes to doubt what they have been spoon-fed to believe is branded an apostate and put to death. Why is Islam so nervous about losing members? Any TRUE faith can surely withstand doubters, either from without or within? In Africa almost every day close to 10000 people convert to Islam and heard that on AlJazira! Most people who convert to Islam in the west are criminals. It's not about it being written in the doctrine (because clearly something that insane will not be on paper) it is truly only the matter of how the people around you will respond to your apostasy.
