  • That is just a prototype anyways i have one named Comaro and i consider him a robot not a toy and in 16 and NOT FOR CHILDREN!!! Beacuse the neck can break essay.=/

  • Move along, nothing to see here!

  • I think everybody agrees pleo is not i repeat NOT fake.

  • i don't agree

    that's not everybody noob

  • i have a pleo

  • Je suis français, mais ce n'est PAS DU TOUT IDIOT!!!!!!Mais pourrais-vous mêtre les sous-titre pour moi svp!

  • Hi, I liked seeing both videos especially the more technical one on the right. Thanks for posting these.

  • drapelyk, You shold start with a furby cus pleo is too advanced for ur little seed brain, water that little seed and maybe it will groww ,lol...cheers

  • It's also a common practice to lie about a product to make it sound or seem better than it really is. I think most of the hostility toward the fact that it's scripted is that Pleo was announced around the same time Aibo was canceled. A lot of people want a decent replacement to the gap on the market Aibo left, but there is nothing suitable yet.

  • 1.) its bovious that you dont go to a presentation with the risk your pleo decides just to sleep for the next ten minutes...wouldnt be too representing the whole product, huh?

2.) There are already pleo owners, who hatched 2 pleos at the same time...an guess what..they acted exactly different.

So, your theory might have been right for the "presentation pleo" 1 year ago....but the final product is interactive and not scripted at all...

  • Ops, some mistakes in there ^^

    bovious = obvious

    an = and

    exactly = totally

English is not my native language, so forgive me ;)

  • I received my Pleo five days ago. Believe me (and you will), there's no "script". In fact, the most amazing thing about Pleo is its unpredictability. I thought I'd be bored by now, but Pleo keeps surprising me with unexpected reactions.

  • Sondo13, vids or it doesn't happen.

  • Would you like to rethink your statement? With people receiving their Pleos starting yesterday, I'd pretty well say your conspiracy theory is busted!

    You are a terrible mythbuster.

  • Good impression of Michael Moore's scientific method. You moron. Let's look at the real facts:

    1) Both demonstrators work for the same company. You know what? They're buddies, too!

    2) Both were presenting the "newborn" stage of Pleo where not much happens, of course.

    3) Both treated Pleo exactly the same way.

    4) Neither hung Pleo by his tail, pushed him over, or threw him across the room.

But, gosh; your theory must be true because we all saw it! What the heck was I thinking.

  • Like someone already mentioned the salesman is following a script!

Which means the dinosaur follows the same moves!

It could very well have sensors smart guy!

  • so yeah, in the prototypes, it runs a scripted motion. doesn't mean the product itself will be interactive. i seriously doubt this will be just like the finished piece. the prototype motion probably is going thru the range of things pleo could do at that point.

  • wow you dug down to the bottom of it with great evidence.

The salesman has a script? WOW.. say it aint so. The prototype product acts the same on its first switch on.. with the same input? WOW.. You don't have any real facts. Its worth investigating, but your scientific method is flawed.

  • The guy who started this thread has been OWNED! Ha ha ha, chump!

  • this is a preview. the pleo is still being produced at this time, but now i have one. got it from argos and beleive me its much faster and better than that one and it can sence just as well. themore you play with him and talk to him and stroke him the better he becomes. after a while his voice becomes stronger and he has less fear. and drapelyk G E T A L I F E

  • So the author of this video claims the toy does not actually react to stimulation, but only follows a preprogrammed routine. It will be easy to tell when it comes out for sale.

  • your video only proves that the AI of toy is no where near as autonomous as they claim.

However I still think the motor functions of this toy are impressive.

and its only a matter of time before the AI catches up..

I hope they release an SDK so that people can program them.

  • yeah sure. ... ... what a load of shit. the ai is by far the hardest part. there are not nearly enough sensors or processing power on that thing to handle any more sensors. this is a toy, get over it.

  • Bonk! 2Shye is going to get her wish. . .Ugobe is releasing the first of a long line of firmware in December, 07 and even more in 2008. They said the programming is already there, but they've had to spend their time on the battery and charger. That's done; the fun begins!

  • um... what is it cgi

  • owkeeyy.. my friend.. you've just made the n00b'est comment ever.. :)

    and no it's not CGI

  • ducky :D

  • slow

  • wow. these people seem to despise you very much. you ARE talking a lot of nothing. fake product? what're are you smoking? if your depressed don't kill your self, the world is running out of room due to expansion of population and land development. we don't need and extra numb-nut who's sad cause no one likes him and takes the coward's way out of this world.

  • ER. Um.

I'm guessing you've never demo'd a product before? Anything complex has flaws when in development. to ensure you don't hit any snags while demonstrating the DEMONSTRATION is scripted. So it's possible it's fake, but more likely they ran through this demo a million times in the same order to ensure they got the same results.

Nice observation, but them using the same demo script is not proof of a fake.

  • Ignore the negative comments - I understand what you're trying to show people.

  • Hey, Sorry so many people are leaving negative comments. This video is not proving the dinosaur is fake or anything (of course, it's a robot). But it's interesting how the demonstrators are trying to act like their touches are making the dino move a certain way (which is what the dino should be able to do). In reality the dino is on a set demonstration program.

  • Damnit! You beat me to it! XD

  • you are an idiot yiou should feel sorry for putting up this video.

  • dude stop worreing about pleto and worry about feeding those damn birds

  • brilliant.

  • brilliant twice

  • you are a dumb ass ... these are both demonatrations to demonstrate wut he can do ... are you saying he's not really alive or something? Oh wow, I guess you're right, he isn't alive, give yourself a hand

  • He's saying that the demonstrators are acting like their touch makes pleo respond, but in both videos pleo moves EXACTLY the same way, thus it is NOT interacting but just running a script. I really hope the real product is in fact interactive, was looking forward to this.

  • i don't see how this is a hoax you fucking idiot. It's like a brand new computer every time you FIRST turn it on. Are you dense?

  • Lolz i hear budgies.

  • Thanks for the vid!! I love hoax's when they are busted!!

  • No hoax was busted. There are (proven) today to be "smart' programs which can actually learn. They're known widely in FPS games, in which the enemy AI Scripts will actually follow defensive formations that they weren't programmed to perform, based on their "adaptive AI". Basically: It does something. There is a reaction. It memorizes the reaction. It acts based on the memorized reaction(s). It's really simple. Adaptive AI (this dinosaur) is real.

  • He's following a script people. You people who can't deal with the obvious remind me of the real intelligent parakeet hoax. No one wanted to believe it was just a guy talking through a sound box either. Funny how the parakeet met a tragic accident before he could be make public. Some people will believe anything.

  • No comparison. With all the other videos out there of the Pleo acting according to its program (No running demo scripts), I can't believe you're still hanging on the the "hoax" theory. Some people only see what they want to belive. Fact is, Pleo is the most advanced piece of consumer available robotics.

  • What Id like to do is drive around town with very loud speakers and every now and then go over a junction and let off an almighty screech of tyres sound and a crash noise, and just see reactions. Am I weird to think of this?

  • Hell no, thats comedy. If you could have your brake lights come on with the tire screeching noise and maybe bump the rear end of your car up about 6 inches with hydraulics, you could get some really funny facial expressions fron tailgaters.

  • So anyway, even after the back and forth with the original poster, the question is now, where is Pleo? I though Q306 was the release? If they were as far along as shown in the "demo", I would have thought a product would be on the market already.

  • who me?

  • Ehh, WRONG! The first time you turn a Pleo on, it runs the same routine every single time, so to create an image for himself of the surroundings. The reason why he reacts the same in both videos after waking up is because Chung (the guy who presents Pleo) is following the routine, so Pleo follows the same (most logical )learning path twice.

  • u such a dork,boy

  • they thought that they could get away with two identical videos without repercussion, but that didn't work...

  • Part 3. Your crime is there were idiots who wanted to believe a toy like this was true, and they didn't like the truth. Idiots always blame the messenger when their fantasy comes crashing down.

  • Part 2. That may be the prototype to sell the product, but they are still foisting a hoax. Remember when they said Furbie learned words? Same thing. LIARS. Ignore the idiots drapelyk, we need more debunkers.

  • drapelyk ignore these idiots. You keep on going. It had me going when I saw pleo in the first demo, but when you show them side by side it's obvious. It's moving to a script and is not interacting.

  • so what that doesn't prove it is the same, have you ever thought that this is the same pleo that is a prototype that's supposed to do the same series of moves? and besides, watch the other videos, pleo moves differently, and stop doing this, you are wasting youtube's space.

  • hahahahaha I don't think a rebuttal is required.

  • what are you laughing about? the joke is on you. I cant wait to see what other important world issues you will address next!

  • youre a dumb ass.. the trainer have a routine so he can show all the features of the robots.. get life you stupid ass.. thats why you have apple computer coz you dont know much about information technology.. mac is for dumb ass that wants shortcut al over the daym system.. PLEOS TRAINER/PROMOTOR HAVE A ROUTINE TO DEMONSTRATE THE FULL FEATURES DEMOSTRATION..

  • This video is from August 12, 2006. It's old... quit trying to make me look like an idiot. I was merely making the statement that Ugobe had claimed that it was responding to touch... They then made it clear that it was commonplace to use a scripted machine at tech shows such as DEMO. This is done. It's been discussed. I hope UGOBE the best.

  • dude, you opened your self up to any comments made here. Seriously have you considered any other conspiracies? Certainly you can find something better to make a corporate coverup out of like all the "fake" products at the Detroit car show riiiiight?

  • Conspiracies?! With a childs toy. Riiight. If you wanna talk about conspiracies, how about Pleo being an advanced spying device delveloped by Santa to keep an eye on who's been naughty and who's been nice? e_e

  • IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • These are prototypes, PROTOTYPES. Do you know what a PROTOTYPE is? Its a mockup of a concept, the final product is slated for spring 2007. What, you think youve discovered a juicy Dino-conspiracy? I just received an email from UGOBE that said they are STILL working on it, fruitcake.

  • Ugobe and the creator have already acknowledged publicly that the two demo's were scripted. When you only have 3 minutes to show off everything that that Pleo can do scripting is the only way to do it. Read some of the other reviews at various news sites and you will find out that it is very interactive.

  • As it is, this is just a scripted demo that is an attempt to get more funding for their struggling company. Much like the 'in game' footage for the PS3 from two E3s ago that were all animated rather than rendered, but presented as rendered footage.

  • I also noticed this when I saw both videos back to back. Scripted motions with hammy acting to make it look as though it's spontaneous and that the Pleo is reacting to the man when it is not. They don't have sensors along the back and it is not aware of it's surroundings. It's just a robot programmed to do a series of motions that the 'actor' pretends are in response to what he's doing. If they are able to develop a robot that can do all that stuff they claim, it'll be cool.

  • why don't you stop wasting your time picking faults. who really cares what it does on its start up. of course if you can do any better feel free. but i guess sitting in front fo your computer looking for things to moan about is what you do. GET A LIFE.

  • Sure, no big deal if it acts the same on the first startup, but that's no excuse for this insufferable phony acting by these hams!

  • umm shouldnt it always start out the same on the first time?

  • what people did expect from ia and prescripted motions? be real plz, this doesnt prove anything, the robot is not even finished.

  • Lets see - who here expects the same startup script running on the same hardware, in virtually the same enviroment.. To behave differently each time? (Anyone who does is frankly, an idiot.) Even though Pleo is meant to 'evolve', he's still running the same base code when he awakes.

  • I think all of it should be algorithmic and dynamic, just like real life. I must be 'an idiot'? Especially for being able to understand how such software could actually be coded. :)

    Related: Spore, Neural Network's

  • Ok but do you really believe it's ONLY scripted motion? The product's probably a long way from finished, as it's only going to be released mid-2007. AI is impossibly hard so it's not thát strange to think that in it's first "life"moments the Pleo does thesame thing in almost exactly thesame circumstances... It could have also been the "actors" who learned a routine... And the other PC Magazine videos show a different view on it

  • Thanks from slashdot

  • Seriously? What were you expecting? This is the first generation Pleo. It's bound to be like this. Not like the company is completely ripping you off. Anyway, I think it's an interesting product and the company is brave for taking this step.

  • Demos routinely act the same. This is a waste of YouTube's storage.

  • Exactly!

  • I think the Pleo is more animated than the guy showing the video. I mean, seriously, who needs two monitors? Who has the time to cue the two videos up at the same time, run a camera on them, poke his parakeet, and then edit it all together? Wow! Like, this guy is, like, totally talented....and stuff. What a geek-mo.

  • Oops. Sorry. He doesn't have two monitors. My bad.

    He's still a geek, though.

  • OWBED BITCH! Didnt even need 2 videos to see that, mr obvious!

  • damn, you nailed them, you are not just a nerd with a parakeet, you are a hero!

  • i think everyone hating kindof needs to get out more.. but yea your right marginally, its scricpted only that hes doing the same motions but I do theater and we do the smae motions every show... so are you going to say that we lip-sinc? get real.. and to the makers of this toy, its very cute but I think Id still stick with AIBO

  • AIBO's not as smart as this thing is going to be.

  • Even if that is a demo mode, showing it off in that mode is worthless. It is one thing to say 'this is a demo, now here is what it can do..' and another thing to say 'here is what it can do' and then tell us it is a demo mode AFTER the fact. Now you lost a lot of customer trust, good job. I won't be buying your products.

  • Obviously you are not aware that the purpose of demo-ing a product is to show exactly what the market product will do. Are you likewise disappointed when the commercial previews don't show the ENTIRE MOVIE?

  • I think the parakeet was scripted.

  • UGOBE

We are actually working on getting some new videos of Pleo running in autonomous mode. This video taken at DEMO 2006 show Pleo running in demonstration mode. I'll keep you updated on the status!

    Aboutbots

  • What exactly are people expecting? Its not ready for release, its not being manufactured, software is probably still being developed.. They are trying to show you what it WILL be capable of to get interest going.. Nothing wrong or bad about that..

This is no worse than video games that show animated movie trailers that are nothing like the actual gameplay..

  • You guys fail to realize that it's just a showcase of their new product. They're showing you what it can do and how it interacts and such. It seems like a really neat robot and if the price is right I know I'll pick one up.

  • It's a DEMO. They always highlight the same features in a demo. Big deal, dude.

  • I work w/UGOBE PR-both videos were made for DEMO where presenters get 6mins to demo their stuff. The demo mode offers a taste of Pleo's behaviors & movements (when it hits the market, Pleo will evolve over time by interacting w/his environment and using AI). The video on the right was live at DEMO, the video on the left is a backup (at shows like DEMO you always make a backup). Can't wait to hear feedback once Pleo comes to market. Let me know if you have any ?'s (jcrabill@shiftcomm.com).

  • Thank you! Finally someone makes some sense in these comments.

  • even if it was real, it would be lame.

  • and the point is?

  • excellent catch... good to see some folks are paying attention.

  • Why did you record your screen with a camera?

  • Why did you record your screen with a camera?

  • how else would we hear the Parakeet

  • I'd hit it.

  • LOL nice catch, good video.

  • its just an AIBO with silicone skin

  • i dont get how it's fake. the people doing it were probably told to do it the same way everytime they show the toy off

  • It's supposed to be a toy that interacts as it "learns" through sensors, what his surroundings are like, but of course it's only scripted movements, as the two different videos clearly show.

    Good job on the unmasking.

  • Wish I know what this was... Is there a back history I'm missing?

  • No context, instant 1/5

  • just buy a dog lol

  • Sensor array my ass.

My pet rock has a sensor array that tells it not to move anywhere or do anything.

Does anyone want to buy my amazing pet rock?

  • Sure, you pay me $5, and I'll remove the annoyance. :)

  • OMG did you hear him say, "he'll probably like to get thrown around a bit" ... ????!!!!

KEEP THESE SCAM ARTISTS AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND PETS!

  • owned. you the man!!!

    worldpeace,

    ben

    OWNED

  • someone had to do it, good job man :)

  • Are the creators of this marketing this as a truely interactive toy?

    I sure hope not.

If it's just "scripted motion", doesn't that make it less "intelligent" than a Furby?

  • owned. thanks for posting that, such bs.

  • digg the story here! help it get to the front page!
