I've been doing Muay Thai for 5 years and when sparring (with elbow pads), elbows are one of my best attributes, especially out of a clinch. I like to clinch to throw my opponent around a bit, to show them that i'm stronger than they are, plus when your in the clinch you take knees, so it's the last place you want to be if you're getting your ass kicked.. Also, a lot of knock outs come from being in the clinch, it's also the most tiring part of muay thai, if you trained you would know this.

@pix00l In Canada we call it modified Muay Thai with no elbows, although I don't agree with it. I've been doing Muay Thai for 5 years and when sparring (with elbow pads), elbows are one of my best attributes, especially out of a clinch. It feels like you're being robbed of an advantage in these rules and I'm sure Buakaw and Petrosyan feel the same as well. Your thoughts?

There are different rules because outside of thailand its rarely allowed to use

@smirn0w @smirn0w Well Globally, Thai boxing and Muaythai is used the same, the english translation of Muay thai is Thai boxing. The word Muay means boxing in thai obviously... I assume in Portugal there is a difference there, but everywhere else its just a play on words. I am not sure if you are brag about your fights just to make it seem that you are correct, that really doesn't make a difference.. I may not have 13 fights but i do have 9 fights with 1 lose. its just Modified rules.

@smirn0w Thai boxing and Muay Thai is the same thing, this is Just Modified rules, No elbows is the only difference, I like elbows but I know it stops the fights early sometimes, some folks like to see ppl go at it for a while, taking out the elbows makes it more probable.

@morenochulo86 the literal translation of Muay means the word boxing, this was not ment to be a seperate style, Muay Thai is translated to Thai boxing.. Now if in other countries people desided to make based on language then thats backwards.. you are saying the same shyt in a different language, Muay Thai thais language to their art, the English translation is Thai boxing. I know the thais fight way less rules then foreigners but the translation still holds to be the same.

Anyone notice how the little exchange between Buakaw and Gevorg after the fight? Buakaw tries to pat Gevorg on the back and Gevorg seems to brush him off and say something while making negative gestures. Gevorg seemed pissed off during some of the tumbles during the fight too..

you're the idiot...From training myself...I hate guys who clinch all the time...you clinch when you know he's got your number and you can't do anything against your opponent...If you don't train please don't even throw in your 2 cents....I don't like people talking from the side lines like they know everything...

I do train idiot, take your own advice. I like to clinch to throw my opponent around a bit, to show them that i'm stronger than they are, plus when your in the clinch you take knees, so it's the last place you want to be if you're getting your ass kicked.. Also, a lot of knock outs come from being in the clinch, it's also the most tiring part of muay thai, if you trained you would know this.

I've trained in muay for a long time. Please if you use the clinch you'll know if a person is clinching, because he can't do anything else or because he's a stronger fighter than you and you can see clearly what petrosian intentions are and thats to keep clinching and get thrown around by buakaw. Its K1 rules this, there is no point in clinching. It doesnt score, reff says break after 2 seconds. Why should he clinch then?

yeah they are both fantastic, but ithink petrosyans reflexes and timing for counter atacks is just a bit better then Buakaw. His boxing skills are better to, more speed in the hands. I think in K1 fighting Petrosyan is a little bit better then Buakaw. But thats my opinion
