My brother showed me another way you might like to try. Cut out the bottom of the pumpkin and place it over the candle and leave the top alone.

The pin transfers the image pretty well and the key is to work from the inside of the image outward when you're carving it.

Ah Halloween, and once again I can't wait till the morning after Halloween. Before sunrise I run around the neighborhood from porch to proch collecting carved pumpkins that I can take home. I save them in one of my industrial freezers where they are preserved for eternity so later I can admire the design and craftsmanship, and how they were carved.
