damn i have 8600MGT and c2extremedual and it runs 800x600 3/5 texture and 3/5 landscape, i got 60 fps, if i turn it on 12800x800 resolution i got 25-30 fps. i hate it.
for a laptop solution... i say it is one of the best cards you can go for... although now its been replaced with the 9800m... but performance is still fairly comparable...
i went ahead and bought one(P-P6860) for 600$ in primo shape. I love it just overall except it can get very hot. Out of curiosity do you think this lappy with a 2.5 ghz processor and intel duo core processor could run crysis on high?
eh... crysis can be playable on high on my laptop if i turn the settings down to 1280 x 800 and use an xbox 360 controller so i'm not turning as fast.. when i do that its playable...i'd imagine you would get similar results...but if i'm not mistaken a 2.5 ghz processor would not be stock... so i would get a cooling pad... i have one anyway.. its is the NZXT CRYO LX and it works wonders for gpu and cpu temps..
If you are asking for the requirements of the game, the box says a 2.0GHz single core and 512 MB of ram with a geforce 6200+. i would recommend a dual core with at least a 7600 gt.
not a big difference, games will just load faster. i guess you would see a difference in games like oblivion and half life since there is a lot of internal loading.
I have an 8600gt on my desktop and it runs the game fine at 1280 x 800. if that is the res you will be using then you will be ok. as for installing an 8800, i simply don't know. i have not tried to install a video card on a laptop. if i had to guess you probably would not be able to because the heatsink probably wouldn't fit. but don't take that to heart. i may well be wrong.
but also rember laptop cards are slightly less powerfull than desktop cards and the graphics card can only be replaced on to notebooks right now and neither are 15" so youre stuck with what it comes with but what notbook where you looking at?
An older game probably would, but most games now are gpu limited. it would certainly be playable, but i don't think it would run better than mine. benchmarks on the 8800m gts tend to be equal to two 8600mgt's in sli. you may just have to run the game on medium-high settings.

1440x900 is actually a very good res for laptops.

agree, some laptops can even exceed that
