Usually with wires, LW requires very long antennas. The best one was a 500' wire antenna but loops do very well. I love the great Kenwood R models.. The 1000, the 2000 and the 5000. I bought all three on eBay.
I understand these rigs have a practically bullet-proof front end, impervious to oveloading. Coastal staion KPH used some at their operating positions, so it must be true! Nice video!
Holy Cow! I have an R1000 and I can't receive anywhere near those kinds of LW stations with my longwire here in California...What Kind of antenna do you use for LW?
@roon41 : Sez right on the video and in the description. Try adding inductance to your wire. LOTS of inductance, to bring it closer to resonance down on LW and I'm sure your rig will start picking up the beacons too. :^]
The R1000 was my second real receiver when i got started.. it was a great little radio. Great to see you Trans-Atlantic dxing with it..and congrats with the loop cheers and beers Mark...oh and nice video also :)
Congratulations for to have received european long wave stations! It is first time I listen how them arrive in the USA. Here their signal are 60 dB over 9 during the evening and the night! 73 de Enrico, IW3FZQ
I think that was EN 389 Kenosha you went past. That's the only longwave station in town here. I can get about 3 others with the cheap reciever I have.
Sounds like what I get on my YB-400 PE and DX-398 back when I used to live with my parents. I had outdoor longwire antennas to pick up that those familiar signals.

I never got the chance to really get into LW. Are there any decent stations on there any more?

It all depends upon where on this big blue ball we call earth that you call home! LOL

Salt Lake City, Utah. I don't have a radio that gets LW at this point.

This past Friday I was hearing Morocco (171) and Algeria (252) and they had pretty good dance music. I was surprised. Not very loud though.
