  • Sid's version was cool, and without a hint of irony. He wasn't trying to be funny, its obvious he liked the song and did a good job when he sang it. Of course, there was only one Eddie Cochran, and nobody could sing or play this song like him. so as much as i like sids version, compared to this.. there's no contest.

  • big sid fan but we know were the most talent is

    yes we do

  • justin beaber has 9 youtube account

  • i don't get why sids version gets h8, it was a decent cover.

  • EDDIE WAS A TRUE TALENT HE LEFT US MUCH TOO SOON.

  • sid did a great version of this song, eddie cochran is a legend, half the people listning to this wouldn't have heard of eddie cochran if it wern't for sid covering it,

  • vraiment le roi du rock and roll

  • @gretschbriansetzer yeah :D and thanks for the support :)

  • God, I wish me a Eddie Cochran tribute guitar, to 12.000$! I haved started my savings! :P im only 13, so i think i will get it when i am about 80 :D

  • @Vin5i

wait till you get a good job mate

if you save your money well you probably get it =)

  • What a great song!

  • Way in my brain, is way in my brain

Is way in my brain, well, now

Under me sleng teng, me under me sleng teng

  • He was absolutely better than Elvis. Eddie wrote songs , Elvis couldnt... Eddie was a real rocker , Elvis sung Wooden heart , O sole Mio etc.etc.

  • Only reached #58 in the States. It would have reached much higher except for Eastern U.S. payola scandals. Didn't get enough air play back East.

  • 8 dislikes - doesnt know REAL MUSIC!

  • sid's version is better.

  • @TheClassicpunk1 No. Eddie have got talent, not sid.

  • @TheClassicpunk1

Why better? Sid's version is amazing , but its a homage to this, so " better " or " Worse" I suppose could be debated , but you got to give props to the guy who wrote the song eh? And...this (original) version absolutely rocks!

  • @Avantyawn

Sid should never have gone near this song - it may be a 'tribute' to Eddie but, with all due respect, Sid Vicious was a little twerp and Eddie was one of the coolest guys who ever lived.

  • @statthud fuck off

  • @JackM2409 The classic Sid Vicious fan response - Merry Christmas to you too.

  • Something else else. What a rocker.

  • I love your music forever , just not fair you was taken from us you rocked and kicked ass and you brought joy to millions your the man Eddie Cochran what a beat i just want to dance

  • This was just the start of something mega... rock-on....a diamond,,!

  • There's a facet of ALL musicianship which seldom gets a mention these days & it's "ATTACK"..........Should any reader of this want to fully understand its true meaning within a musical context then they need merely to listen to Eddie Cockroach's "Sumptn' Else" and ALL will be revealed. Released in 1959 & penned by Ed. & Sharon Sheeley; frequently equalled but seldom bettered, this Real Rock Masterpiece of Lyric Writing is as good as it got way back when. R.I.P. EC, BC, SS & JC.

  • Great music.

  • the drumming :)

  • ...that Eddy Cochran, man..............^^ one of the peaks of the Arts, a masterpiece. No a standard. lots of (great) artist made cover of this song (scuse my english). It's at the same level of the best R&R Era songs, as Elvis song, Chuck B.Good Berry, Lit Rich and so on. Eddy Cochrane was really a fantastic artist for (for?) made such music

  • First heard this on the old KMET, circa 1979, coming down HWY 101 11 pm on a Saturday night and this song literally blew my fucking mind. Funny how one remembers what time it was and where you were when a profound event takes place in your life. I knew then that this was the holy grail and destined to be my all time favorite record. 32 years later, it still is. Rock on, Eddie.

  • I LOVE YOU! <3

  • @13Punkabilly13 the best ones always do

  • 3 chord bliss!

  • Songs about cars and girls. Not much changes. My favourite rock & roller

  • 8 nerds

  • one of the best in all the long history of rock...no, of the music

  • eddie was the fucking man,

  • Simply class

  • Eddie was the coolest, no doubt about it

  • Eddie Cochran is SOMETHING ELSE............Tune blows me away everytime.......love the kick at the chorus.......

  • I'm 52, and just getting into all this rock stuff. Didn't do it for me when I was a kid, but I get it now!

  • @TheBelly58 50 year olds like Metallica. God, I feel old...

  • G-R-E-A-T --- Thanks

  • Always enjoyed the covers of his songs. The original is just awesome. Just read his bio on Wikipedia. Sounds like he was a really cool guy.

  • Wow - he would have been one of the great ones of R & R .... To short a life....

  • Pure rock gold. I normally don't like this genre - 50's rock 'n' roll, but this is different. Eddie Cochran has heart & soul - forget Elvis - that's like comparing Led Zepellin to the Bay City Rollers.

  • I'm writing this in May 2011, and this still rocks like Fekk! :)

  • Elvis was worse than beiber

  • @stillrob420 you should be shot, i agree that cochran is better than elvis but thats too far saying he is worse than beiber

  • @JackM2409 fuck elvis, fuck you too

  • @JackM2409 at least beiber writes his own songs, the lil fag at least does that

  • This is going to be played at my Nans funeral. What a send off that'll be! RIP x

  • @1:38- i got a forty-one ford not a 59!!!! this guy made presley look like the amateur he was.

  • Supoib!

  • The man who did more for reggae than Haile Selassie.

  • Eddie was something else alright ? .yay !!! keep rocking in Heaven dear Eddie !luv ya 4ever xxx

  • This is a sure fine lookin' site, man, it's somethin' else!

  • The only reason Steve Jones, from the 'Pistols' existed was because of this man. Oh, and Dick Dale. x

  • Awesome !

  • FANTASTIC EDDIE WAS AMAZING.........GREAT CHANNEL

  • Dis one ROCKS! God made 45s for songs like dis! (that's 45 rpm records for yaz kidz what don't know). They were somethin' else, stack a pile of 'em on that record player and away ya went.

  • The american music sucks listen to the british version (Sid vicious) it's so better than this

  • @AleejooBSAS JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJ

I piss myself... Sid only sing like eddie with the same back song he never play that again (Lemmy with head cats does and its muuuuuch better). The version of Sid it's the worst, a guy who don't know to play a guitar and do comercial thinks like oohhh i'm bad and i took drugs... asshole!!!

    Be serious men!

  • i love after 1:39 when he says "just a fordy 1, 4 mighty 59" i think thats what it says...

  • @50srocknrollfan18

he says "my cars out front and its all mine, just a 41 ford not a 59"

  • @50srocknrollfan18

he says "my cars out front and its all mine, just a 41 ford not a 59"

  • he says "my cars out front and its all mine, just a 41 ford not a 59"

  • @JodyVega Yes, that is what he sings/says. Any problem with Ed lyrics, just google "Eddie Cochran Lyrics" and you have every songs Ed had a finger in, meaning not only Ed on vocal but (I think ) others as well, like those 8 recordings Ed sung bass vcl on Gene and his Blue Caps in April '58 and later, pm time, Ed walked doiwn the street, to "Gold Star Studio" and recorded "Summertime Blues" ...just a trifle. LOL When I got my time machine ready, HG Wells old time style, I gonna meet Ed there

  • he says "my cars out front and its all mine, just a 41 ford not a 59"

  • @JodyVega Ooh! that's what it says. I feel dumb now. :P

  • Eddie Cochran the original punk rocker. he even wears the black leather pants.

  • I loved his guitar, a Gretsch 6120 with a Gibson P-90 dog-eared pickup in the neck position. I'd love to recreate that some day.

  • @NorthWriter Gretsch made a repro model a couple years ago, they may still be out there

  • I bought me a guitar and wanted to shred,

but total lack of beat went right to my head,

and so I'm here at youtube

and I'm thinkin to myself, -

    That Eddie Cochran man,

    HE"S somethin else!

  • @mymotorcycle5 Not bad. Actually very good. And I mean it. Thank you very much for these words. The world need more people like you and less religeous fanatics...I think. LOL

Just one thing about this 'version' of "Somethin' Else". It sound kinda beefed up. I mean, the drums, all, everything is a bit louder or faster than I'm used too. It's NOT bad, on the contrary I really dug it. But have you, CHRIS 123445 (is that your phone number?) done anything to this recording, and if, what?

  • @mymotorcycle5 Wow, you' re great! I' m Italian and I wrote a Chuck Berry/style song of a modern schoolgirl that wears makeup and red lipstick secretely from her parents and goes out with blue jeans on but a miniskirt in the bag... anyway you' re great

  • yep just looked it up, earl palmer, he did summertime blues as well

  • @crg1819 Where did you get 100% for sure info that it's Earl Palmer on dms? Forget Earl Palmer on "Summertime Blues". NO WAY Earl was there. Eddie overdubbed everything, except maybe Connie 'Guybo' Smith working the bass unerneath. It's for the moment impossible for me getting access to that session site I'm talking about. There one have almost all info one need.

  • @bellgardens53 summertime blues is on earl palmers selected discography

  • @crg1819 Do you have the address to the link of Earl Palmer's discography online? If, sent it to me in a pm so I can check. But it is always good to have several sources, well, many times it's a must to be sure. One should never say never BUT as fars as I know, I never heard Earl should be on "Summertime Blues" Too bad I can't get in touch with Ed's session site. Something is wrong, as the link is broken. AFAIK, that site haven't been wrong yet.

  • @crg1819 Okay, "Summertime Blues". After checking, re-checking and checked again, this is how it was, I do believe: Ed on vcl and gtr (overdub), Connie 'Guybo' Smith bs, Earl Palmer dms and maybe/probably Jerry Capehart/Sharon Sheeley hand clapping. I'm not a person that can't admit if I'm wrong and it really looks like the great Earl was on this session. Just wonder how in the world Bobby Cochran in his book could miss that. I mean, the man is a musician himself and not bad either

  • Eddie-best version ever!! The pulse of rock and roll!

  • Questo pezzo spacca le mele!!!

    This tune really kick ass!!!

  • This deserves to be played on an old mid 50's Seeburg or Wurlitzer jukebox bombing out bass, rockin' the floor, shakin' plaster from the walls and rattling the windows.

    Rock on Eddie!!!

  • Une des meilleures chansons de rock'n roll .

  • THE DRUMMING AMAZING

  • @ArrivaLaFranja21 Gene Riggio or Earl Palmer on drums. Many forget the huge influence the late great Earl Palmer had on Rockn'Roll as he was a studio musician. More influental than many much more famous performers from the 50's era. Think Earl could play anything, and do it awesome! From New Orleans (NO). I have seen some clips of old black musicians (in NO) talking about how great Earl really was. I think there is a book out here/there about him. Gonna get it soon.

  • @bellgardens53 If I have to take a shot, I go for Earl Palmer.

  • @bellgardens53 id say earl palmer as well the guy was a god of drumming, one of john bonhams heros, bonham based the beat to led zeps rock and roll on earls style as a tribute to him, dont have to say anymore really

  • @crg1819 Why I also mentioned Gene Riggio is because of one, if not the best sites online, coming to Eddie Cochran's sessions and other stuff, and this siite is really GREAT coming to the info, had Riggio or Palmer as drummers. It's not 100% who really is the drummer. I can't give the address to the site here as then youtube won't publish this comment. It's their policy, but I think the name is "Rememer Eddie Cochran" Check it, anyone interested of Ed and sessions (as well as other stuff too)

  • I've always thought that this dude invented punk music by accident lol

  • @yetaca Very true. Critics and listeners think that The Kinks "You Really Got Me" started Punk and Metal but for me it's this. The heavy chugging guitar sound was like no other before it. I wouldn't be surprised if the Davies' brothers had Eddie in mind when they wrote their groundbreaking hit.

  • @ManilaSyndicate Couldnt agree more about the guitar mate, Not a guitar player so dont really know how to describe it technically, but it makes this tune for me

  • @Tote1883gas Yup.

  • @ManilaSyndicate check out Link Wray, if you havent already. i think hes had songs before this. you could call it "punk". he has also the only instrumental banned on the radio (i think) "Rumble" from 1958.

  • @MelvinatorX I know. I'll listen to more of Link Wray as the only song I know of him is "Rumble".

  • i wish i lived in the 50s: the best music ever!!!

  • The most under-appriciated rockerof all time....kick my ass

  • Comment removed

  • he looks alot like joe strummer in some of these photo's

  • @theravingpunk the first photo and the one at 1:08

  • the man who defines the term rocker !!!

  • A great tune, the heavyness of Cochran's music always impresses me.

  • Brilliant!

  • ...but heck if I know why Buddy Knox, Jimmy Bowen et al (at 0:25) is depicted in this Ed video? What's the point?

  • REAL Rock n' Roll. Sounds like more echo had been laiden on in this vid but I might be mistaken...anyway, who cares.

  • Great tribute... really Somethin' Else!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Such a talent, such a great loss. Rock on eddie, your music is still being played today. Mark my word it is.

  • drum n bass at its best lol

  • He died at 21, funny Sid Vicious covered this and died at the same age.

  • More talent than Elvis, great pity his life was cut short

  • Shivers up my spine, 37 years old, long live rock n roll

  • long live the music thanks eddie

  • i wish that someday will be movie about Eddie! His life is a incredible story.what you think about Ryan Gosling to play as him?

  • Believe it or not, cochran's music was a huge influence on punk 30 years later....

  • @mercurochrome11 what this one record!

  • Real kool video w/Eddie. Thank you. Great!

  • eddie had it all ... musical skill, vocal skill, performing skill, good looks, great hairstyle, great clothes ... he was the REAL THING

  • What this guy and his band would have achieved had he lived, doesn't bear thinking about. Original, and BRILLIANT.

  • I wrote with Sheri (Eddie's girlfriend/fiance, &co-writer of this tune w/ Eddie's brother, Bob) twenty years after Eddie died. She would often talk about her life & times with Eddie.

Listening to some of our old demo's now makes me truly appreciative of both of their incredible talent & contributions to rock & pop culture.

Amazing how Eddie still shines so brightly!

  • At time i hear this song ververal time a day.

    GREAT SONG ! ! !

    Thank's for the upload.

  • 50 years in Heaven today for Eddie. Rock on, brother!

  • 50 yrs today what a loss rip eddie

  • @7bowden7 i agree

  • Like the loud bass. This is the best I've heard of this song;)

  • 1 of the best driving songs.

  • great

  • He did so much so young... Imagine how it could have been! He was just so good, I think it would have been "Oh, That Elvis guy, I think his name was Prezley or something like that".

  • Good old Minnesota boy. I'm 62 and I was introduced to Eddie's music by my older brother in the late 50s. He's one reason I learned guitar.

  • Thank you Eddie. I may not be from your era, but thanks to you and bands like you ... I know what REAL rock and roll is.

  • Great!

  • I was born in the wrong era.....This till plays!!! Modern music sucks!!!

  • Amen brother ... I haven't heard a good tune in something like 30 years.

  • Eddie is a God RIP xxx
