@nccountryboy90 You lair the Queen is not talking about coming out of retirement. God if she does I am going to find my way to the USA somehow because I must see her live. i would died happy. You need to stay in touch with if you got all this good stuff.
Before this song, female country singers didn't have much success. Some, like Patsy Montana, The Carter Family, and Molly O'Day had some success, but when this song came out, it didn't just open the door for the women, it kicked the door off the hinges.
@bruiser According to Wikipedia - Wells' statement was a rather daring one to make in 1952, particularly in the conservative, male-dominated realm of country music; plus, women's liberation and their sentiments in song were still more than 10 years away. There was plenty of resistance to the song and its statement: the NBC radio network banned the song for being "suggestive," while Wells was prohibited from performing it on the Grand Ole Opry and NBC's "Prince Albert" radio program.
@seonfox patsy was a great talent that is true. However, this Kittys song. It was Kittys hit record and patsy cline or any other female country singer never had a hit record with it. Kitty Wells and Jean Shepard are both as good if not better then Patsy ever was
@musicdetective1 BETTER than Patsy Cline? Are you on meth? They are not even in the same class as Patsy Cline. People who don't even like country love Patsy Cline because she is the best female vocalist there ever was, and ever will be. Patsy Cline has proven the test of time and will live on. The others will be the first to admit that they cannot compare.
@seonfox Like i said man patsy was great.I am not disputing her talent. I am only saying that she was not the only great female talent in country music. They all have their own way with a song. I really liked Patsy but to be honest I would much rather listen to Kitty Wells or Jean Shepard. Different strokes for different folks man. It don't make anybody better or wrong .
@musicdetective1 much as i love this song and kitty wells you have got to be joking .better than patsy cline .i don,t think so kitty had 1 big hit how many did patsy have ? and how many more if she had lived
the male singer was Hank Thompson. His song was titled "The Wild Side of Life". I believe Burl Ives sang it first, but I'm not sure, It was a long time ago.

@rstawarz111 I think you are talking about BJ the DJ. It's an old Stonewall Jackson tune, although I do love Kitty's version even more.

A nasal one toned voice, yet very mezmerising, there is some genuineness in that voice,
I even bought a CD of "Best of" songs of her.

Nice tune. Has been covered a lot since then. Best version in my opinion is from Status Quo - Wild Side Of Life.

Have you heard the version that Jessi Colter and her late husband, Waylon Jennings, did of this song? It is really good, too.

This song is the response to the male singer who sang about cheating women.
