Definitely my favourite TARDIS interior. It's miles ahead of the sick-coloured Ecclesgone/Tennant nauseator with its Fisher Price controls. The Matt Smith one is better, though still nowhere near as good as this.
I love this set! Definitely the ultimate TARDIS set, wonderfully eccentric and lavish looking. The new series console room is not as good: too heavily stylised and a bit cartoonish. This set really does seem magical and epitomises Doctor Who's status as the heir to fantasy fiction of the past such as Verne, Wells and C. S. Lewis. Wish they'd use something similar today!

I prefer the current TARDIS interior, just because this one from the 1996 movie seemed too cluttered and victorian and human. I think it shuld look slightly other-worldish like the current one does. Although I would like to see a door in the current TARDIS interior that leads to other rooms because there isn't one now.
yeah but the doctor is able to decorate the tardis interier how he wants it ,seeing as he loves earth hes probally decorated that way ,the new one is boring !
I don't think the new interior is boring, the way it's lit is though, if you go back to the Eccleston period you'll notice how moody and yet at the same time dynamic it looked.
I personally think the new Tardis console looks... abused. The Doctors - in all their previous forms - spent almost every episode running repairs and cleaning the TARDIS... the current Doctors and their TARDIS look like he doesn't care :(

It doesn't look like the Tardis, it looks like the inside of a Dalek, mixed with Earth plumbing. It has the garish look of a scene in a Martin Scorcese film about Las Vegas in the 70s. It looks like a public toilet. It looks like who ever designed it secretly hates all life kind. Why does the ceiling look like the top of a uterus? It looks like the unconscious mind of the self loathing gay man. Why do the Cybermen have hips? Lol, wth! This show on tv now is warped.
there is alot i like about this control room`s style, the new console room looks to me too much sprayed fibreglass and the console back lit cheap charity shop ornaments, the mixture of jules verne and orignal white would have suited the doctor`s personality and lifestyle better, a incredably advanced alien machine, sentient in it`s own right, tinkered with and repaired constantly by a ecentric genius using parts and technology from hundreds of eras and worlds.
The fourth doctor said his wood panel/stained glass one was the orignal primary console room, the white version was we see in the orignal series the secondary, in the new advent novels there is a third stone clad gothic/medieval console and control room, which i`d love to have seen.
@thatenglishkid The console still exist and is in the possession of a fan who's restoring it. There's a video of it on youtube. Search: "How Who Are You?" KTEH
I agree to some point, but the desktop interior of the new TARDIS, is much more better. The sound effects, the DEMATERIALISATION AND RE-MATERIALISATION is much mroe quicker than the 8th Doctor's TARDIS. And the new interior is rated much more better than interior TARDIS'S. Or is it because the 8th Doctor Who was filmed in America, and that was better? It is English in the end...
how did you get there

Holy crap; that console at 0:43 looks like the Victorian-type console of the Hinchcliffe era! Nice that they kept that! :-)

Drinks? With Genghis Khan? In the TARDIS? The assembled hoards of Genghis Khan couldn't get through the doors, and believe me, they've tried.

Although I don't think the new one is boring at all, but that's you opinion. :D

Its also worth thinking that the Doctor used to wear Victorian Period clothing, or earth clothing so he clearly has a penchant for earth style.

It was the other way around. The wooden console room was secondary and the white console room was the main room.

Ever since I saw the movie 11 months ago I thought OH MY GOD WHY DON'T THEY USE THIS SETTING IN THE NEW SERIES!
germanchap 3 years ago 3
Coz it was built abroad in 1996 and probably doesn't exist now, and it's too far away. Duh.

The console and girders are in a private collection now. I found some pictures of it online taken around 2004.

I always *LOVED* this version of the TARDIS interior. It is spectacular. I wish they had it for the new series.
That guy has a weird accent. It starts out American, then English then it sounds Australian but with an American twang.
Tanru2000 3 years ago 19
@Tanru2000 He's English but grew up in America. His name is Philip Segal and he's the executive producer of the movie.

hmm, his accent reminds me of Justin Lee Collins

Far better TARDIS interior than the new show has been using. Although I liked Tom Bakers Doctor Who's backup TARDIS console room too.

It's a fantastic set.
Pity they didn't switch a few lights on for this so we could see more detail.
Far better TARDIS interior than the yucky new yellow one.
