This lasted one season (1994-'95) on ABC, supposedly based on Cho's stand-up comedy [but, as she comments on the DVD release of the series, "No, it wasn't!!"]. What the network wanted was someone who could fit into one of their all-purpose "bland" sitcom formats back then, as Marie Osmond did in "MAYBE THIS TIME" the following season. Margaret had to suffer through a change in cast and ABC's "guidelines" as to how she was to appear and act- that's why she was screwed up after the series ended.
Anyone who thinks Margaret Cho is a bad role model is possibly either sexist, racist, or homophobic or all of the above. I can't really imagine what someone would have against her to call her a "bad role model" unless it was something like that.
@janelane64 I would think the people who thinks Margaret Cho is a bad role model are within the traditional, conservative Korean community whom despise women that are vulgar and provocative on sexual matter that is largely taboo and severely frowned upon.
I admit this is my first exposure to this but this really sucks its not funny in the slightest ..its like someone gathered all those people in high school that tried way too hard be funny and just embaressed themselves got a sitcom its terrible.
I loved this show when I was a kid. I look back at it now and it's not that good, but at least it introduced me to Margaret Cho. Screw people who think she's a "bad Asian role-model." She's been a very important role model for lots of people, of every race. She was one of the most important role models in my life and I'm white. She showed me how to find my own voice.
wow...that's not really funny. i can see what she meant about taking away her voice. I love Margaret with a passion, I am SO glad she's back doing standup. She's hilarious and she kicks ass, and she's gorgeous. Their bad for not realizing it until it was too late.
I had to see what All american girl was about after seeing margaret cho stand up. It pisses me off the way the media/tv works! There is nothing wrong with the way she looks with out dieting and makeup in all her stand up acts. I dont like what they did to her in this series. Thanks for the heads up Margaret for the rest of us inspiring entertainers;
had they attempted this show during americas latest asian craze " the last couple years" it would have been a huge success margeret cho deserves better

I was in junior high when this show came out and the portrayal of asians disgusted me.
at some point you have to take ownership of your work. she contributed to severely bad racial stereotyping in this wackass show. now the asian american community looks at her like some kind of role model just because she is a D list actress?! if she was black and it was a show about african americans, the entire community would have been in outrage and not tolerated such a negative portrayal.
margaret cho is amazing plain and simple
