I use Baur Vapor SFL V skates jr. are they new or old? because i only see reviews on Baur Vapors 1.0 2.0 3.0 etc. I just got them for christmas and kinda want some feedback on them
WHAT MAKES THE VAPOR LINE SUPPOSEDLY "JUMPIER" THAN THE SUPREMES? I SALESMAN TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE THE VAPOR HAS A SHORTER BLADE? IS THAT TRUE? -THANX
@sincitycycler The vapor line does have a slightly shorter blade to aid the player who thrives on acceleration and the supreme line of skates on made for the player who takes big long strides and needs to maximize every stride
As an australian i have never seen snow or skated for that matter. I have a question tho. Is the blade sharp like a knife? or is it relatively blunt so that u can run your finger across it fairly easily?
@Jagwa3 Well, ice skates are pretty different from knifes i guess, like knives have one straight sharp edge like a ^ point lookin from front, but skates blades are like a ^_^ sorta, so you can glide easier and cut better for turns... if that makes sense?
@MrPinkfluffybunnies you idiot, where do you think you would buy them? a fucking hockey store.. but they no longer sell them as you can see this video was posted in 2008.. get off youtube
I had these a little before they came out with ls3's and extra padding/stiffness and I really liked them but grew out of them. I had 9ks for a year or so but they broke down pretty fast once they hit this point. Around June I picked up some new pro stock 40s for 200 bucks and I honestly like them more than my customs and they were 400 or so less. haha. But for me the only way to skate these is without footbeds.
Is there any recent Bauer skate that feels like 30s? I absolutely loved those skates
@comradecommedy Idk why i said ls3. They had ls2 powers on them which pretty much just have a longer runner so you get a lot more power out of your strides if you're more of a power player9or at least that's what I noticed. i play D.)
Hey guys, I have a size 9 normal shoe size, so that means I'd have to go with a Senior skate, right? Because I've been looking at the skates in the Junior section, and the options it gave me were like "3.5D, 3.5EE" etc... That means it's size 3.5 and width D or EE, right?????
@alex801848 I wear a size 9 shoe too and I wear a 7.5 skate in Bauer. So yeah, you'll have to wear a senior sized skate. You're right about the letter D or EE being the width. D is a narrower/standard width and EE is a wider width.
hey i have the One35's and im sick of them i have to sharpen them every 5 or 6 times on the ice and i was looking at the XXXX's and i'm very interested. I am looking to spend around 200-300$ on new skates wat else do you recomend for this price range.
he doesnt say anything about the fit of them... if you wanna know, they have a wider heel, so the skate kind of fits like a box. so if you have thinner heels, your heel will slide and you will notice people with bumps on their heels that wear these skates, thats from their heels sliding in their skates.
fantastic skates, bought them in store and first time i took them straight to rink, wore them and they mould to my foot quickly and yea perfect first time wearing right til end!
@skatinjosh i have ccm roller hocket skates and there okay. i baked them. there no where near as comfy as my one95s. but i guess its based on everyones foot
@cam21fr I've grown up on CCM's and only played on them for about 18 years. However, I'm interested in trying something new like Grafs or Reeboks. I had a pair of Bauers once. Too damn narrow. Went back to CCM after only a season LOL.
My local store has this Skate only in EE. They measured my foot.... and i'm in between a E & EE. Now i'm wondering how tight should i have the skate.. my foot is completely relaxed but no room to move side to side, in the EE. The guy at the store told me that just the E would be a special order and i had to buy in when it came in.
If your a beginner don't get those they're more for the experienced/pro people, and also they cost A LOT so get some cheap 50-60$ skates for now, work on the basic stuff, then buy a good skate.
Just give me a pair of old Micron Mega 10-90 Pros and you can keep all your new skates. I have these skates, grafs and one95's and the 10-90s with V2 Ultra-thin blades blows them all away.
Get me a new old stock pair of megas in size 9.5 and I will pay you $200 cash. Guaranteed payment. There has not been a skate made before or after better than the 10-90 Pro. Have tried the one95s and they are not even in the same league.
I preveously used these skates, and at the time, i liked them, i was planning on getting a custom fit X:60 skate, but while i was at the store, i tried on the ONE95 skates, i found that the 95's gave alot more support than the 60's or the 40's, i ended up getting a custom ONE95, and i felt faster in the skate.
if you've ever bought a pair of skates then you've used a footbed. The footbed is the thing thats inside the boot on the bottom. unless you rip it out they you're using it lol
i just got this skates today(5.5 EE) just because the store didn't have Bauer's x:50 skate and wore them for hockey school. i really need to get used to it though....
nothing much really just the hydrophobic liner and comfort, footbad, its not as tacky. But still is nice! i reccomend the XXXX its on huge clearance right now.
haha actually, the x60s are a little bit heavier, and they have a better tendon guard, and different soles. Also, the x60s are 600 dollars and these are half the price, i am probably getting these this summer, well worth your 300 extra bucks
you can, if you really want them. i wouldn't recommend doing that simply because it COULD harm the structure of the boot. you also want to get used to the skate by wearing them around the house. like i said, i wouldn't recommend you cooking them, then heading to the rink.
If i'm not willing to spend the money for the Superfeet, what can I go with? I hate the insole on my 5K's, I'm looking for one with more comfort, any suggestions? Comment back, please.
well, you can actually buy Superfeet. I highly recommend buying them. they run for around $39.99 canadian. they're unbelievable. they line up you foot, ankle, knee and hip in what's called the neutral position; where your body is most efficient. you get greater power, less wasted energy and suberb comfort. highly recommend them. when i worked at source for sports, i swore by them. great, inexpensive investment for your expensive one. btw, they are trim to fit for customization.
i wouldn't do that. see, you want your feet snug and secure, and with the gel, it allows your feet to move a bit. you don't want that. you want your feet locked. you'll get blisters.
Yeahh, I get blisters with the fit system they have in the 5k pumps. I just bought a new stick, I have to buy everything on my own so i'm trying to portion everything out that I need. Is there anything else besides superfeet?
no your foot is not in the oven with the skate. You mold the skates on to your foot right after they take them out of the oven. The guys at ice warehouse have a video up on how to bake your skates on your own and I did that and worked great.
true, but it depends on what type of oven. when i got my skates molded, i used the CCM oven which is a vacuum seal. you put the skates on, put them into the CCM oven and it molds that way. but a conventional skate oven is used by putting the skates in by themselves at 175 degrees F for about 4 minutes. then once the skates are out, you put them on and lace them like you would everytime you skate. you then sit for about 5 mins and then walk for about 10 to 15 after.
Epitaph means the ccm fit ovens, there unbelievable. I baked my u+ pros twice first in the normal oven then here at home, didnt do much of a difference, then they fell apart. I had my replacement reloaded u+'s (fixed version with a different boot material, no rocket runner) done in a fit system, it was unbelievable.
you can't really compare the two. both are great skates, but are for two totally different skaters. if you're a quick, agile type of skater, you'd want the XXXX. however, if you are a player who has a long, powerful stride with minimum effort, you'd probably go with the One95. also, on the One95s, they have what's called the Lightspeed Power 2.1 steel. it's longer than the typical LS 2, which gives it more speed. more blade on the ice = better energy/speed transfer.
Hey, since you work at a sports store, could you tell me what skates I should buy? I'm looking at the NikeBauer XVI skates because i'm looking at a $100-$150 price range, any suggestions?
well, i'm unfamiliar with the XVI, but if you were willing to spend an extra $50, then have a look at the NikeBauer Velocities. Those and the Select II's are probably the best skates for the price you're paying. They both have a lot of the same features as the XXXX but at a more affordable and reasonable price.
Oh, okay, my dad told me I could add about another $60 out of my pocket. The velocities, how do they fit, are they wide, narrow, and do they have ankle support like the insides of the XXXX? Like the cups around your ankle? I badly need those.
the XXXX doesn't have ankle cups. those cups are formed by the user through molding and wear. with any skate, however, the ankle support varies on the quality of the skate. you won't have the same support in a velocity model as you would in a XXXX but that's to be expected. bauer skates tend to run around a D width and their wider models run at around an E. if the ankle support isn't up to par for you, let's say, shin tape around the ankle is a good alternative. btw, i feel important haha :P
Hahahaha :P but I couldn't find any Velocities on any website. And I ment in like the Stealths and Synergy (Higher synergy SE16) They have ankle cups. I have those on my current skates but i'm in desperate need of new skates. And i'm moving towards the aggressive style of skating, so I didn't want RBK's or Eastons. I had both but I just can't skate fast enough in them. I had great experiences with my first pair of skates, the Vector 03's but what can you say, I was a beginner.
Unfortunately, because of the fact that NikeBauer is no longer a company (just Bauer now), they may have discontinued the velocity line. however, it's hard to find those skates online because they aren't part of the numbered "Vapor" line. the only thing i can tell you because, as you know, I can't go out and shop with you unless you live in edmonton, alberta, is to go out, try some on and get fitted by your local proshop. go in with a plan on what you want and they'll find the pair for you.
Oh, alright. But about the baking of the skate, do you have your foot in the oven with your skate on? I've always had custom fitted skates like the Pumps so i'm new to it.
hey huckster, how much are you willing to spend? I heard the xxv are pretty good for the price, you could pick up some xxxx's easily on a lot of different sites some as low as $220
Ha, perfect timing, I just got on :P liitterally. And I already got the 5k's. I must say, they're great skates. I looked at the XXV's but I needed them as soon as the day after for I had hockey camp for a week. I'm stilll at this camp but these are very decent skates.
yeah man take a look around, id definatly go for a pair of 40's over anything else though at the price there going now, my lhs doesnt have any or i woulda picked up a pair
Me too, I could only spend $220 and I got them on sale for $210, I would rather have some vapors, I actually was looking at the XXV's but I couldn't afford any of the vapors that they had in my size (XXV and XXXX and the X:40, 50 and 60)
I finally retired my old Bauer Supreme 96 from the 1970s. I bought Bauer XXII. It's very different; like learning to skate all over again. There is so much more rocker with the newer skates, over the old steel tube skates. I look forward to getting back into hockey. It's a great game.
thanks for the review!

If i'm not willing to spend the money for the Superfeet, what can I go with? I hate the insole on my 5K's, I'm looking for one with more comfort, any suggestions? Comment back, please.
SurfMyTurfHockey12 2 years ago
well, you can actually buy Superfeet.
Epitaph47 2 years ago
I'm just not willing to spend that much, is there anything else? Like could you use a dr. Scholls gel or something?
SurfMyTurfHockey12 2 years ago
i wouldn't do that. see, you want your feet snug and secure, and with the gel, it allows your feet to move a bit. you don't want that. you want your feet locked. you'll get blisters.
Epitaph47 2 years ago
Yeahh, I get blisters with the fit system they have in the 5k pumps. I just bought a new stick, I have to buy everything on my own so i'm trying to portion everything out that I need. Is there anything else besides superfeet?
SurfMyTurfHockey12 2 years ago
just use the default insoles then. you could probably use work boot insoles.

Alright, thanks.

no your foot is not in the oven with the skate. You mold the skates on to your foot right after they take them out of the oven. The guys at ice warehouse have a video up on how to bake your skates on your own and I did that and worked great.
thatissocloset 2 years ago
true, but it depends on what type of oven. when i got my skates molded, i used the CCM oven which is a vacuum seal. you put the skates on, put them into the CCM oven and it molds that way. but a conventional skate oven is used by putting the skates in by themselves at 175 degrees F for about 4 minutes. then once the skates are out, you put them on and lace them like you would everytime you skate. you then sit for about 5 mins and then walk for about 10 to 15 after.
Epitaph47 2 years ago
what if you use a normal oven?
sraufstok 2 years ago
thats the one thing you DON'T want to do
Epitaph47 2 years ago
Epitaph means the ccm fit ovens, there unbelievable. I baked my u+ pros twice first in the normal oven then here at home, didnt do much of a difference, then they fell apart. I had my replacement reloaded u+'s (fixed version with a different boot material, no rocket runner) done in a fit system, it was unbelievable.

are these better than the one95's?
KCI9x1H 2 years ago
you can't really compare the two. both are great skates, but are for two totally different skaters. if you're a quick, agile type of skater, you'd want the XXXX. however, if you are a player who has a long, powerful stride with minimum effort, you'd probably go with the One95. also, on the One95s, they have what's called the Lightspeed Power 2.1 steel. it's longer than the typical LS 2, which gives it more speed. more blade on the ice = better energy/speed transfer.
Epitaph47 2 years ago
wow, thanks, id probanly go with the one95;s because im really tall and i take really long strides. thanks!
KCI9x1H 2 years ago
no problem. i worked at a sports store for years and i live and breathe hockey haha.
Epitaph47 2 years ago
Hey, since you work at a sports store, could you tell me what skates I should buy? I'm looking at the NikeBauer XVI skates because i'm looking at a $100-$150 price range, any suggestions?
TehHuckster 2 years ago
well, i'm unfamiliar with the XVI, but if you were willing to spend an extra $50, then have a look at the NikeBauer Velocities. Those and the Select II's are probably the best skates for the price you're paying. They both have a lot of the same features as the XXXX but at a more affordable and reasonable price.
Epitaph47 2 years ago
Oh, okay, my dad told me I could add about another $60 out of my pocket. The velocities, how do they fit, are they wide, narrow, and do they have ankle support like the insides of the XXXX? Like the cups around your ankle? I badly need those.
TehHuckster 2 years ago
the XXXX doesn't have ankle cups. those cups are formed by the user through molding and wear. with any skate, however, the ankle support varies on the quality of the skate. you won't have the same support in a velocity model as you would in a XXXX but that's to be expected. bauer skates tend to run around a D width and their wider models run at around an E. if the ankle support isn't up to par for you, let's say, shin tape around the ankle is a good alternative. btw, i feel important haha :P
Epitaph47 2 years ago
Hahahaha :P but I couldn't find any Velocities on any website. And I ment in like the Stealths and Synergy (Higher synergy SE16) They have ankle cups. I have those on my current skates but i'm in desperate need of new skates. And i'm moving towards the aggressive style of skating, so I didn't want RBK's or Eastons. I had both but I just can't skate fast enough in them. I had great experiences with my first pair of skates, the Vector 03's but what can you say, I was a beginner.
TehHuckster 2 years ago
Unfortunately, because of the fact that NikeBauer is no longer a company (just Bauer now), they may have discontinued the velocity line. however, it's hard to find those skates online because they aren't part of the numbered "Vapor" line. the only thing i can tell you because, as you know, I can't go out and shop with you unless you live in edmonton, alberta, is to go out, try some on and get fitted by your local proshop. go in with a plan on what you want and they'll find the pair for you.
Epitaph47 2 years ago
Oh, alright. But about the baking of the skate, do you have your foot in the oven with your skate on? I've always had custom fitted skates like the Pumps so i'm new to it.
TehHuckster 2 years ago
hey huckster, how much are you willing to spend? I heard the xxv are pretty good for the price, you could pick up some xxxx's easily on a lot of different sites some as low as $220
Sharksfan27 2 years ago
Ha, perfect timing, I just got on :P liitterally. And I already got the 5k's. I must say, they're great skates. I looked at the XXV's but I needed them as soon as the day after for I had hockey camp for a week. I'm stilll at this camp but these are very decent skates.
TehHuckster 2 years ago
yeah man take a look around, id definatly go for a pair of 40's over anything else though at the price there going now, my lhs doesnt have any or i woulda picked up a pair
Sharksfan27 2 years ago
Me too, I could only spend $220 and I got them on sale for $210, I would rather have some vapors, I actually was looking at the XXV's but I couldn't afford any of the vapors that they had in my size (XXV and XXXX and the X:40, 50 and 60)
TehHuckster 2 years ago
oh lol. i tried out the 9k's on the ice my friend has a pair but they dont fit me right, the pump is cool though.
Sharksfan27 2 years ago
Yeah, they are hard to break in you just have to bake them and the pump sometimes gives me huge blisters.
TehHuckster 2 years ago
ahah im getting these customed made when the next hockey season comes, its gonna be sick

I finally retired my old Bauer Supreme 96 from the 1970s. I bought Bauer XXII. It's very different; like learning to skate all over again. There is so much more rocker with the newer skates, over the old steel tube skates. I look forward to getting back into hockey. It's a great game.
