My tip: only have 1 desktop icon. most people have a "main folder" on their desktop. store it in my documents or any other location besides the desktop or a external hardrive (A.K.A Removable disk) and put a shortcut in the start menu. This helps improve performance. sounds crazy, but it works. ^^
