I figured I'd see Arduino controlled toilet paper or something haha. Well done. You guys have such an awesome company going with great customer service and super addictive parts. God only knows how much of my paycheck you get every week haha. <3 Sparkfun.
holy cr4p sparkfun has a lot of space and employees! I had no idea.. There must be lots of profit in putting ICs on simple breakout boards.. One thing about this video is that I do not quite understand what they are doing... They were offering free, or partially free products?
Definite marketing success for Sparkfun. I feel good about it too knowing people got free stuff versus conventional worthless advertisements. Can't imagine how I'd feel if I actually nabbed one of the orders.
Just wanted to say, spark fun i was so close to doing something unhealthy to my self when i discovered that i missed freeday, but to be honest that video made me feel much better, Crazy shit i never thought it would be that wild.
Good job guys, actually making it trough without loosing a server due to over load :P
Kick ass! I got what I wanted, have ordered a few times but frank is a true douche poor sport its 100 free I bet you cried when you got picked last in jr high for sports??
Thanks Spark fun!!!! It was a fun battle I got my order in at about 5k sold I think it was, I have 12meg down and 2meg up i kept hitting F5 :P
omg I want to work at this place. Any openings for a semi-disgruntled Ocean Engineering grad student who wants to build sweet robots? And this Frank character needs to grow up; Free day was awesome even if you didn't get your order in.

Blah, I still think you seriously pissed off some very loyal customers, me included.
My friend was hoping to finally buy a Saleae Logic but noooo..... You let some douche buy 150 LEDs or push buttons (I think you edited out what it was in the news post)
I would like to see a "We are sorry, here's what we should have done instead" news post
And have regular sales like a normal store sometimes...

It still seems like the obvious intent for the 150+ item order was to hog the product and resell them for profit, but I appologize if said person had a good reason for doing so.
I really don't understand how people can feel so entitled. SparkFun was clear that the servers might go down, that it would be a fight for the free stuff, and STILL some people complain because they "planned" on getting the discount.
I don't see why they should apologize as it was a success. Ticketmaster completely crashed when they got hit by roughly twice the volume SparkFun experienced - and they don't have large shopping carts, plus their servers are 50 times as powerful.
Still inaccurate. Hitting the submit button was not nearly enough to get an order through; 6 people were lucky enough to get back from payment confirmation *and* processed by sparkfun's server in that last second. Very few of those connections got any response, and for some that did it was empty.
The giveaway was fun, the load test too, but I'm still annoyed that we see only cheerful covering up and not the gritty analysis!
Hahah, you guys are awesome. I didn't get my order in though :(, I was gonna get a sparkfun jacket and some soldering stuff for smd soldering (the iron i have is too large for this chip I got). But I guess it's like you said, not getting some free stuff isn't a disaster :P
I want to work for a company like this so bad.

From the website, when someone mentioned the 145 LEDs:
"January 8, 2010 at 1:43 AM | Posted in:
Well, yes. But i wanted to make sure they are all the same.
In case anyone likes to know, they are going to be used in a fairly large wall clock. I want to make the 7-segment displays out of green leds :-)
Thank you sparkfun! "
