  • deactivated a damn good siren... WHY?????

  • 2001's suck the t-128 sounds alot better!!!

  • nice video! what county is Oak Brook Terrace?

  • @amtrak3501 DuPage County, Illinois. Its a suburb of Chicago.

  • I'd be willing to bet that the Whelen might be a fire department siren (if the sirens are next to a FD), and the T-128 is a city siren. Sounds stupid, I know, but I've seen a LOT of municipalities do that sort of setup, especially in Illinois.

  • thats weird that they'd spent double the money on double the sirens, when all they had to do was use a different tone or call for different situations.

  • yah lol i live in illinois and i know what you mean. i live right almost dead center of the state (almost) in Lewistown and idk for sure but possibly we have a t-bolt (we have multiple across town, but i mean the one closest to my house) . idk if its the 2001 or 2003 version, but i love its sound!

  • Actually, the FD is right across the street and has a grungy Model 5 mounted. That one doesn't get tested either.

  • Maybe that one is used for fire calls.

  • I pass these two sirens very frequently. I wondered which one they currently used. A 4-driver Whelen doesn't seem powerful enough, even for Oakbrook Terrace. So, good choice with ASC. By the way, there are two more of these sirens that I know of on the prairie path--one in Glen Ellyn right by the train station and one in Wheaton RIGHT on the prairie path in a parking lot for yet another train station. You should make a video of those ones.

  • The whelen must have been active at one time, and I guess they just thought a T-128 would be better for that location. This must be the last siren within the few towns to go off, because a lot of the other ones stopped before it went. It was cool then to hear the other sirens go.

  • It would have been cool if the wheelen sounded. But the T-128 seems good for warning the whole town.

  • One thing I noticed is that this T-128 siren stopped turning right when it winded down. Usually they keep spinning, but slow down. Still very nice sounding T-128. The sirens sound really sound eerie the beginning in the distance.

  • asirenguy, the T-128 is 128dB@100' (free-field) and the 4004 is 129db @ 100' (acoustic chamber.)

  • There must have been something wrong with the wheelen in order for them to deactivate it. The T-128 makes good sound.

  • poor whelen these whelens are far more hi tech even the 1990s models

  • yeah, they have crap quality:

the fibreglass is done really badly, the weight distribution is so bad it makes them crack where the drivers are mounted after a year ish in service, the drivers and amps fail regularly... Ask any town that has them, they can't even take hail.

  • Which one are you talking about the tempest or the whelen please explain

  • the whelen. The T-128 is REALLY reliable and one of the best sirens avaliable atm imo. Old whelens have a decent build quality but aren't loud at all, not even three digits for the WS2000R.

  • I wish they would activate both just once to have a face off. Im sure the T-128 would win.

  • american signal clames that the t128 is the loudest in production mby thats y

  • No it's actually the T-135AC/DC page where that claim is made.

  • I know what this is in the video. I was referring to what the ASC website says. Perhaps you should read what is being said in it's entirety before posting a comment.

  • those people made a bad decision they should have used the whelens because they rock and so do tbolts,fs2001.

  • They did use the Whelen, which is why they switched to using the T-128.

  • Ha ha exactly! T-128 are far superior then a Whelen Vortex!

  • I just remembered that there are actually pictures on the UVFR site of Arlington, TX's Whelen 4004s being replaced with FS 2001SRNs. I'd bet this is one of the early to mid 90s model 4004s.

  • i here a t135 siren

  • I'm pretty sure you don't. All the nearby sirens are Whelen rotating sirens, FS2001's, or Elmhurst's brand new Tempest T-121's (which replaced a bunch of perfectly good Thunderbolt 1000's).

  • Yeah, there's definately whelens heard in the beginning.

  • why is the Whelen Vortex not working?

  • The Loud Sound of T-128 Sirens can run over the sound of Football Crowds anyday!!!

T-128 Sirens can block out almost all of crowd noises which IS GOOD IN MY CASE!!

T-128 Sirens and Thunderbolt Sirens rank one of my favorite sirens ever!

  • Man I'm kinda worried bout thes EM Directors these days, their spending wastefully, now is the time to be conserving money, not spending it.

  • Most cities have to stretch to buy a new siren so I don't think they just threw away their money on a siren. Money is almost always an obstacle to putting in a siren system. Most likely, the Whelen was either fried or it was sucking up maintenance costs so they decided it would be more feasible to install a mechanical one.

  • It's like the clash of the titans, the whelen knew it was beat and stood down even before the face off.

  • Is it me or does this rotate faster than other T-128s?

  • It's set somewhere between 3 and 4 rpms. The speed can be adjusted via a potentiometer in the control box anywhere from .5 to either 6 or 8 rpms (I forget which).

  • Nice vid! Is the Whelen out of service?

  • That sounds just like the Thunderbolt 1000 I recorded back in January. Yeah I agree with thecompanycar about going with T-128s. Man if that Whelen went off along with the T-128, I call that siren finale Lol.

  • Good to see they went with T-128s instead of 2001-130s.

  • Nice video of the T-128. :)
