You know what, to be completely honest, and I know I'm going to get called a fanboy and get insulted by butthurt PC fanboys, but Killzone 2 is the best looking game I've ever seen.
I'm aware PC's are stronger, I even play PC's more. There's more to games than high polygon count though; art direction is important.
Crysis is amazing in 1080p with AA, I've seen it, but I don't know what tricks were used to make Killzone look so good on a console, but it was amazing.
It genuinely IS very close. I would take Crysis because of how much more complex it is. Killzone 2 does look amazing, indeed, but it is also very, very linear in design. It's easier to make smaller levels look good as opposed to gigantic, open levels.
Also, we must take into account that Crysis came out about a year and a half before Killzone 2. So yes, Killzone 2 is close and it is DEFINITELY the best looking game on consoles, but it took 1 1/2 years for a game to come out that compared.
what graphics card are you using ? I have an nvidia and it played crysis on the best graphics and ran smoothly , but when I play warhead the graphics are blocky and crap. Help ?
I mean that I think, in some ways, Crysis Warhead has better graphics than the original Crysis. Both are still #1 and #2, EXCEPT Killzone 2 is right up there.
The fact that Killzone 2 was done on a console (less power) makes it all the more amazing. Brilliant looking game.
@dvdhny killzone 2 is native 720p, and has better visuals than this, but this is a higher resolution to technically this would be better.. but KZ2 looks better, and I am a PC GAMER.
The engine runs at 600p. Look it up. In YOUR opinion Killzone 2 has better visuals, in mine it doesn't. It doesnt matter if you are a PC gamer or not.
im actually getting the 9800gt or the Radeon HD 4 something forget, but if i get one of those cards and then get like 1 GB of ram will i atleast be able to run it on medium?
1GB for xp and 2 GB for vista, and get the ati radeon 3870 or the radeon 4850 and if you got much money you could get a 4870. but make sure if you buy ram memory your motherboard supports ddr, ddr2 or ddr3 or your pc wont "get" it. you also need a power supply with 450 watt or your videocard wont work. and that was it i think XD o wait radeon 3870 is for medium and high i think and the 4850 and 4870 is for very high.
Not trying to start an argument or anything but I think that Killzone 2 may technically have the best graphics to date. That's just my opinion though.
Killzone 2 is easily the best looking console game ever made. It even holds up extremely well against Crysis, it's true. Of course, it's also about a year and a half newer than Crysis. :-)

The new crysis engine is capable of amazing things. When I saw the tech demo I couldn't believe how photo-realistic it looked. Maybe with the next game they'll use that engine to it's full potential.
cryengine 3 = console , it is made for consoles and with the cryengine 2 still being the best engine out there i dont think the will make a cryengine 3 for pc any time soon
killzone 2 have great ligthing and extreme motionblur effect and thats it. the gun you see in kz2 is the only thing that looks good,witch make game look real. but if you pay close attention to the texture and modle, I think crysis won on that one. I try both games on HD plamsa screen and boy, fighting those alien in the ice level with everything max out with great motionblur effect with nonstreaming texture, that game truly look like a real life movie!
remember that this is a video not the actual game so its more compressed. also theres graphics mods for crysis warhead to make it look even better. and you have to count in the time of day effects and the close up of walls that has detail and not blur which he didnt show.
awe i played the first crysis but never got to finish the game because my comp power source broke , i need a higher watt, plus i find it not to exiting because was playing it on low setting so it wasnt worth playing it , i need to have a better rig

The nearly two year old NVIDIA 8800 Ultra. It still runs everything maxed, so far... When it starts to really show its age, I'll upgrade. I doubt that will happen until it is around 3 years old.

You're right. Better graphics and sometimes a higher, smoother framerate are the only reasons I go with PC versions of games released on multiple platforms.
That's the only thing to separate them really. I mean, if it's a game where a controller works better, I can use an XBox 360 controller with the PC. If I want to play on the big HDTV screen with surround sound? I can do that with PC too. You can play a PC game exactly like a console game. The online community is arguably better too.
Well, if a game comes out for all three systems, it ISN'T "exclusive". :-)
An exclusive would be like Halo 3 or Fable 2 for 360. Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, or Resistance 2 for PS3. Crysis, Empire: Total War, or World of Warcraft for PC. They are games that can ONLY be played on that specific system, and no other.
When a game comes out for all three systems, I usually get the PC version, but my teenage brother gets a console version so I see the other versions when I visit him.

Killzone 2 also has better textures, better environment detail, more environmental effects, better lighting, etc. But yeah, it's not a colorful game. In fact, a lot of its atmosphere is a result of its relative darkness.

True, 360 and PS3 probably present an overall better value. All I'm saying is that if you don't own all of them, you miss out on some great exclusive titles.
Anyway, as for Killzone 2 graphics compared to Far Cry 2, I highly disagree that Far Cry 2 is better. Are you sure your friends got a really good look at Killzone 2? Are you sure they don't just prefer the "art direction"? Far Cry 2 is definitely a more colorful, lush looking game. But Killzone 2 is absolutely brilliant, visually.
crysis aint really all that, look at the vehicles, their not that sharp looking, plus crysis requires an expensive gaming rig which most people do not like, thats why your better off getting ps3 or 360 because affordable and if you want nice graphic games, try killzone2 , resident evil with their new framework engine, or even farcry2 using dunia engine and its crysis like graphics maybe even better.
For one thing, Crysis can never be accurately presented on YouTube. It looks A LOT better at full res, in person. Amazing.
What you lose in the vehicles, however, you gain elsewhere in the environment. Crysis, overall, still has the best graphics to date because it looks that good AND it has huge "open world" style levels.
The graphics in Far Cry 2 aren't even CLOSE to Crysis, but Killzone 2 looks great, I agree. Killzone 2 is by far the best looking console game to date.
But don't say, "You're better off getting PS3 or 360". I have both, and I love both. But one has to also have a gaming PC if they want to play ALL of the great games, simply because top notch exclusives come to every platform.
For example, if I didn't have a PS3, I wouldn't be playing Killzone 2 right now. But also, if I didn't have a PC, I wouldn't be playing the AMAZING Empire: Total War right now (maybe the best strategy game ever). Plus, multi-platform games always look best on PC.
About my last point, you should look at some Head-to-Head stuff between multi-platform games. They did one on Far Cry 2, for instance, over at IGN. They pitted the XBox 360, PS3, and PC versions against each other, and they said the PC version had the best graphics, sound, AND control, and they gave it the best version overall.
So, all I'm saying is, on PC you get some good exclusives (like the other platforms), and you get the best versions of multiplatform games.
Judging by the RE5 demo, I disagree, but yes RE5 does look excellent. RE5 and Killzone 2 are clearly the kings of console graphics now. Better than Crysis though? Not really.
This video doesn't really do Crysis justice, for one thing. Even in YouTube HD, you don't see the level of detail that you see on a good monitor at high resolutions. Plus, Crysis is already pretty old. It came out in November 2007. Granted, this is Crysis Warhead from last year, pretty much the same graphics though.

Why nearly every video game website gave Metal Gear Solid 4 the award for best visuals. I don't what they're smoking or maybe they have their mouth that far into Hideo Kojima's balls. Crysis Warhead looks WAY better than MGS 4 in every aspect, hell it looks better than any game this generation.
Plus Far Cry 2, Gears of War 2, and Little Big Planet have visuals better than Metal Gear Solid 4.
I agree that MGS4's graphics are overrated and certainly nowhere NEAR Crysis Warhead (and I think Gears of War 2 has better graphics than MGS4 as well). Still, Crysis won Best Graphics of 2007 at a lot of places last year (including IGN and GameSpot), and I guess people think Crysis two years in a row would be boring.
I think it's politics, sort of like the Oscars. There is no way that with MGS4 and Crysis Warhead running side by side, that ANYONE would suggest MGS4 had better graphics.
Well MGS 4 still looks great and it is one of the best looking console games. Crysis isn't going to hold the top spot best graphics in history until Feburary 09 when Killzone 2 is released. I hope Killzone 2 is good unlike the first Killzone.
Maybe. Remember, everyone claimed Far Cry 2 would top Crysis in graphics and it didn't happen. There is no doubt in my mind that Killzone 2 will look superb, but I won't believe it tops Crysis until I see it happen.

It was touted as a "Halo killer" before it was released but the game was pretty lame. Even if anyone didn't compare it to Halo it wasn't a very good shooter, which is a shame considering the PS2 didn't have a good exclusive first-person shooter. Thankfully the PS3 has the Resistance series which is a console shooter series almost as good as Halo. Yes I'm a fan of the Halo {except for Halo 2} and Resistance series...... please don't hurt me. :(
killzone two wasnt too good in the closed beta i was in, the motion blur is insane, and the game looks like the unreal engines weird white blur thing over the screen. Hope they fix it for release.
Well Gears of War 2 doesn't had _THAT_ good Graphics. Anyways, GeoW2 is a shitty game, honnestly, it's crap. Crysis has amazing Graphics, but it's waay to short game. Metal Gear Solid 4 is probably the best game ever... it won Game of the Year from the 5 biggest rating websites on the planet... (Go MGS4 for Game of the Decade!!!!) It has amazing Gameplay, amazing Storyline, Awesome boss fights, Epic moments and definately deserved GOTY the Grpahics was just the icing on the cake.
I really didn't like Metal Gear Solid 4 that much. It started out sooo strong (first two Acts were great!), and then the last three Acts were boring and involved more sitting and watching instead of PLAYING.
The gameplay is actually where MGS4 suffered, the graphics were fine. Anyway, I wrote a review of MGS4 at GameFAQS. It is called :

I don't even have a top of the line video card anymore. These videos were done on an NVIDIA 8800. 9800s have been out for some time. My video card is dated, why would say it is invincible? I never did. I simply said Fraps kills framerate.
I'm sure there are some drops here and there, but when Fraps isn't running, they aren't nearly as noticable, if they even happen...
I'm just saying, unless you have pro hardware for capturing videos, using a siftware program slows the game down. That's what you are seeing here, and it STILL runs well enough that I could play through it and make the video.
The framerate isn't properly shown in this video though because Fraps, the program I used to record the video, reduces the performance. When I'm not recording, the framerate is much better.

Good video here, Loved Warhead.. the only complaints i have about about this Expansion is that there is no SandboxEditor included & even on the highest difficulty, the game is way too easy for experienced players who've played Crysis numerous times already.
warhead makes u fell like its not a sandbox. but its still a good game. i go far cry2 over it though. but i go Half Life 2 over eny game. the whole Half Life 2 series. And i go half life series case they have basicly no cut seens.
Tough call. Probably not overall, but it's one hell of a nice game to go along with it. Faster paced, and more crazy action, I would say. But I think overall Crysis is probably the better game. Play both though.
i think Crysis visual very good in 'depth view effect' and blur, but some places the lighting (hdr) doesn't work well. Farcry does very good in hdr but lacking of environtment details unlike crysis- because play in desert
i love crysis and the graphics are amazing. I think far cry has more open world though. correct me if i'm wrong. I think they both look great and in a way it's hard to compare them because crysis involves and island with aliens and snow. Far cry 2 though is based off the african savannah and lush jungles with animals and rivers and many other things. Far Cry 2's map editor seems awesome! What are u getting it for PC,PS3, or 360?
I love ALL of those systems and I own them all (for instance, as far as exclusives go, I'm getting Fable 2 and Gears of War 2 soon for 360 and Resistance 2 for PS3). But for Far Cry 2 I have to go with PC.
Two reasons:
1. Better graphics. According to Patrick Redding, the narrative designer on Far Cry 2, the console versions will be like "Medium" PC settings. I would rather have the higher quality, maxed graphics personally.
2. I prefer mouse and keyboard for FPS when I have a choice.
well my PC can't run crysis on the highest of settings but pretty high. only like 2 settings are medium or something like that. that's why i will most likely get far cry 2 for my ps3 or 360 cause i'm afraid my pc won't run it well and make it look beautiful and awesome

This one. :-) What I meant was, Crysis: Warhead is #1, to my eyes, and Crysis is #2. It's true the draw distance isn't quite as huge in Warhead, but there are several much improved textures and other visual improvements.
O_O Holy shit that looks nice, 1,000 times better than the original Crysis! I'm DLing it now, it better work on my 8600 GT, as Crysis looked like alright, and ran like crap on my comp at the time. Since then I OC'ed it a lil, and added some more RAM. Plus they apparently adjusted the game so it runs smoother on lower end GFX cards =D
Well, there is SOME lag. I used Fraps to record, and all the settings are maxed, so when I hit F10 to begin the recording, the framerate took a noticable dip. It's still not bad though. It works for the YouTube vid just fine IMO. But there IS a little lag.

Unfortunately, neither the XBox 360 or the Playstation 3 can handle Crysis or Crysis: Warhead.
However, future Crysis games will be on a new, somewhat downgraded engine and they will be on 360 and PS3, as well as PC.

killzone 2 have great ligthing and extreme motionblur effect and thats it. the gun you see in kz2 is the only thing that looks good,witch make game look real. but if you pay close attention to the texture and modle, I think crysis won on that one. I try both games on HD plamsa screen and boy, fighting those alien in the ice level with everything max out with great motionblur effect with nonstreaming texture, that game truly look like a real life movie!

remember that this is a video not the actual game so its more compressed. also theres graphics mods for crysis warhead to make it look even better. and you have to count in the time of day effects and the close up of walls that has detail and not blur which he didnt show.

awe i played the first crysis but never got to finish the game because my comp power source broke , i need a higher watt, plus i find it not to exiting because was playing it on low setting so it wasnt worth playing it , i need to have a better rig

The nearly two year old NVIDIA 8800 Ultra. It still runs everything maxed, so far... When it starts to really show its age, I'll upgrade. I doubt that will happen until it is around 3 years old.

You're right. Better graphics and sometimes a higher, smoother framerate are the only reasons I go with PC versions of games released on multiple platforms.
That's the only thing to separate them really. I mean, if it's a game where a controller works better, I can use an XBox 360 controller with the PC. If I want to play on the big HDTV screen with surround sound? I can do that with PC too. You can play a PC game exactly like a console game. The online community is arguably better too.

Well, if a game comes out for all three systems, it ISN'T "exclusive". :-)
An exclusive would be like Halo 3 or Fable 2 for 360. Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, or Resistance 2 for PS3. Crysis, Empire: Total War, or World of Warcraft for PC. They are games that can ONLY be played on that specific system, and no other.
When a game comes out for all three systems, I usually get the PC version, but my teenage brother gets a console version so I see the other versions when I visit him.

Killzone 2 also has better textures, better environment detail, more environmental effects, better lighting, etc. But yeah, it's not a colorful game. In fact, a lot of its atmosphere is a result of its relative darkness.

True, 360 and PS3 probably present an overall better value. All I'm saying is that if you don't own all of them, you miss out on some great exclusive titles.
Anyway, as for Killzone 2 graphics compared to Far Cry 2, I highly disagree that Far Cry 2 is better. Are you sure your friends got a really good look at Killzone 2? Are you sure they don't just prefer the "art direction"? Far Cry 2 is definitely a more colorful, lush looking game. But Killzone 2 is absolutely brilliant, visually.

crysis aint really all that, look at the vehicles, their not that sharp looking, plus crysis requires an expensive gaming rig which most people do not like, thats why your better off getting ps3 or 360 because affordable and if you want nice graphic games, try killzone2 , resident evil with their new framework engine, or even farcry2 using dunia engine and its crysis like graphics maybe even better.

For one thing, Crysis can never be accurately presented on YouTube. It looks A LOT better at full res, in person. Amazing.
What you lose in the vehicles, however, you gain elsewhere in the environment. Crysis, overall, still has the best graphics to date because it looks that good AND it has huge "open world" style levels.
The graphics in Far Cry 2 aren't even CLOSE to Crysis, but Killzone 2 looks great, I agree. Killzone 2 is by far the best looking console game to date.

But don't say, "You're better off getting PS3 or 360". I have both, and I love both. But one has to also have a gaming PC if they want to play ALL of the great games, simply because top notch exclusives come to every platform.
For example, if I didn't have a PS3, I wouldn't be playing Killzone 2 right now. But also, if I didn't have a PC, I wouldn't be playing the AMAZING Empire: Total War right now (maybe the best strategy game ever). Plus, multi-platform games always look best on PC.

About my last point, you should look at some Head-to-Head stuff between multi-platform games. They did one on Far Cry 2, for instance, over at IGN. They pitted the XBox 360, PS3, and PC versions against each other, and they said the PC version had the best graphics, sound, AND control, and they gave it the best version overall.
So, all I'm saying is, on PC you get some good exclusives (like the other platforms), and you get the best versions of multiplatform games.

Judging by the RE5 demo, I disagree, but yes RE5 does look excellent. RE5 and Killzone 2 are clearly the kings of console graphics now. Better than Crysis though? Not really.
This video doesn't really do Crysis justice, for one thing. Even in YouTube HD, you don't see the level of detail that you see on a good monitor at high resolutions. Plus, Crysis is already pretty old. It came out in November 2007. Granted, this is Crysis Warhead from last year, pretty much the same graphics though.

Why nearly every video game website gave Metal Gear Solid 4 the award for best visuals. I don't what they're smoking or maybe they have their mouth that far into Hideo Kojima's balls. Crysis Warhead looks WAY better than MGS 4 in every aspect, hell it looks better than any game this generation.
Plus Far Cry 2, Gears of War 2, and Little Big Planet have visuals better than Metal Gear Solid 4.

I agree that MGS4's graphics are overrated and certainly nowhere NEAR Crysis Warhead (and I think Gears of War 2 has better graphics than MGS4 as well). Still, Crysis won Best Graphics of 2007 at a lot of places last year (including IGN and GameSpot), and I guess people think Crysis two years in a row would be boring.
I think it's politics, sort of like the Oscars. There is no way that with MGS4 and Crysis Warhead running side by side, that ANYONE would suggest MGS4 had better graphics.

Well MGS 4 still looks great and it is one of the best looking console games. Crysis isn't going to hold the top spot best graphics in history until Feburary 09 when Killzone 2 is released. I hope Killzone 2 is good unlike the first Killzone.

Maybe. Remember, everyone claimed Far Cry 2 would top Crysis in graphics and it didn't happen. There is no doubt in my mind that Killzone 2 will look superb, but I won't believe it tops Crysis until I see it happen.
I mean, if the PS3 can't even run Crysis as is (it can run CryEngine 2, but it can't run Crysis itself), then what makes anyone think Killzone 2 is going to top Crysis?
We'll see. I hope it looks that great, but ultimately gameplay is what is most important. Hope Killzone 2 rocks.

It was touted as a "Halo killer" before it was released but the game was pretty lame. Even if anyone didn't compare it to Halo it wasn't a very good shooter, which is a shame considering the PS2 didn't have a good exclusive first-person shooter. Thankfully the PS3 has the Resistance series which is a console shooter series almost as good as Halo. Yes I'm a fan of the Halo {except for Halo 2} and Resistance series...... please don't hurt me. :(

Well Gears of War 2 doesn't had _THAT_ good Graphics. Anyways, GeoW2 is a shitty game, honnestly, it's crap. Crysis has amazing Graphics, but it's waay to short game. Metal Gear Solid 4 is probably the best game ever... it won Game of the Year from the 5 biggest rating websites on the planet... (Go MGS4 for Game of the Decade!!!!) It has amazing Gameplay, amazing Storyline, Awesome boss fights, Epic moments and definately deserved GOTY the Grpahics was just the icing on the cake.

I really didn't like Metal Gear Solid 4 that much. It started out sooo strong (first two Acts were great!), and then the last three Acts were boring and involved more sitting and watching instead of PLAYING.
The gameplay is actually where MGS4 suffered, the graphics were fine. Anyway, I wrote a review of MGS4 at GameFAQS. It is called :
"The Pinnacle of MGS Gameplay, Plagued by Inconsistent Design That Has the Bulk of the Gameplay in Act 1 & 2 and the Bulk of the Cutscenes in Act 3-5"

Dude you're a fucking retard. Crysis lasts 5 hoours, BOOM done. MGS4 lasts for 20 hours. ANd Crysis has NO REPLAY VALUE. It's such a retarded and CRAP game. Once you complete it once, you throw it the bin or return, it's so SHIT! MGS4 has great replay value, you want to complete 5-6 times atleast. I've completed it for ermm.. 7 times now. I know you weren't talking to me, but I have to offer my opinion anyway. I really disliked MGS4. It started out great for the first 2 Acts, but the last 3 were terrible. The plot was horrible, the cutscenes were cheesy, this was the type of game I enjoyed about 10 years ago.
I found it to be a pretty poor game all around, except for graphics and voice acting. At least Killzone 2, Crysis, etc. don't attempt to have plots, which is better than a huge plot that sucks like in MGS4.

I'm sure there are some drops here and there, but when Fraps isn't running, they aren't nearly as noticable, if they even happen...
I'm just saying, unless you have pro hardware for capturing videos, using a siftware program slows the game down. That's what you are seeing here, and it STILL runs well enough that I could play through it and make the video.

The framerate isn't properly shown in this video though because Fraps, the program I used to record the video, reduces the performance. When I'm not recording, the framerate is much better.

Good video here, Loved Warhead.. the only complaints i have about about this Expansion is that there is no SandboxEditor included & even on the highest difficulty, the game is way too easy for experienced players who've played Crysis numerous times already.

i think Crysis visual very good in 'depth view effect' and blur, but some places the lighting (hdr) doesn't work well. Farcry does very good in hdr but lacking of environtment details unlike crysis- because play in desert

i love crysis and the graphics are amazing. I think far cry has more open world though. correct me if i'm wrong. I think they both look great and in a way it's hard to compare them because crysis involves and island with aliens and snow. Far cry 2 though is based off the african savannah and lush jungles with animals and rivers and many other things. Far Cry 2's map editor seems awesome! What are u getting it for PC,PS3, or 360?

I love ALL of those systems and I own them all (for instance, as far as exclusives go, I'm getting Fable 2 and Gears of War 2 soon for 360 and Resistance 2 for PS3). But for Far Cry 2 I have to go with PC.
Two reasons:
1. Better graphics. According to Patrick Redding, the narrative designer on Far Cry 2, the console versions will be like "Medium" PC settings. I would rather have the higher quality, maxed graphics personally.
2. I prefer mouse and keyboard for FPS when I have a choice.

This one. :-) What I meant was, Crysis: Warhead is #1, to my eyes, and Crysis is #2. It's true the draw distance isn't quite as huge in Warhead, but there are several much improved textures and other visual improvements.

Well, there is SOME lag. I used Fraps to record, and all the settings are maxed, so when I hit F10 to begin the recording, the framerate took a noticable dip. It's still not bad though. It works for the YouTube vid just fine IMO. But there IS a little lag.

Yeah. I used Fraps and it brings down the framerate, but not as bad with the original Crysis. This game is so smooth to play, I love it =)
