MAD usage of gadgets bro! Big Up! I started a year ago with only a macbookpro13" and a nano korg :))) I wont have a problem if I get where you@ in 6 more!!
How do you hook up a Akai EV400, Apc 40, soundcard and the Kaoss pad to only one computer? I have a Macbook(running Ableton 8), Fast Track ultra M-Audio card and the Apc 40 and I would love to put my Axiom25 into the mix. I only have two USB ports on my Mac though.
dude thanks for helping the people out, if you have a dream do not give up let DjVespers inspire you to do more. We all came here cause we love musik so go out and make some. A+!!!
@tykill: Dude, stay with it!!! Between the manual and all the youtube vids out there, you CAN and WILL make progress. Believe me, I'm a beginner too and it IS possible. Take it section by section....
@DJVespers: Love the tutorials and explanations.....and fantastic music!
Man, seeing how much stuff you have and I just started learning abelton live and never done any DJing before kinda demotivates me knowing I have a loads and loads to learn.
@tykill You don't need ALL this gear. I've been building this up over 7 years ;) Just the basics are good. A MIDI controller, computer and Live. Cheers!
@ihasmario Actually, I just managed to fix my synth module so it functions correctly and I am now able to configure midi from the unit and I can set breath to a few things (including volume) from there. :)
@s0nkite I've never used them for mixing, actually, just jammin out in my live setup. I use Mackie HR824s for mixing. I feel the KRKs would be okay, but make sure you're using a sub with them because they're small. Cheers!
I'm curious... is there anything you can do with the EWI that you can't do with a MIDI controller keyboard with a few mod wheels? (Obviously it looks better.. and that *does* count for a lot!)
@getkristan I feel you can. It sends out a variety of CC data that is very uniquely organized. The initial attack sets velocity, then breath pressure sets aftertouch, then bite pressure maps to pitch bend. I use all of these in Ableton's Sampler and use the modulations to control multiple parameters using the mod matrix.
i know this sounds really bad but do you know of any cheaper alternatives to akai cos ive seen the ableton ones but just want to get one to know ill be happy using one if you get me so i dont wanna spend big money?
Enjoyed your performance....quite right & quite nice.
It's very cool that everything is all digital....I think that the future of electronic music is having real time musicians, performing the trax....and you're right on the spot.
So, question... are you able to perform these sets in conjunction in a live context? Or do you use turntables in between Live sets? How do you put together a performance of 2 hours with just Ableton?
@gcnubian Yes, totally can perform them back to back. I only use Live, no CDJs or turntables. It take a lot of setup and practice to get it right though, and you have to watch your CPU usage on the laptop. Cheers!
generally I would count using ableton live or whatever as a live performance. I mean, it's one up on DJ'ing, but there's still a lot of "and here's one I prepared earlier" involved.
Use of the sax and midi sax does push you nicely into the live show category methinks.
@leakeg Yeah, fair comment. I'm referring to the way I use it. I definitely use pre-prepared stuff too, but a lot of it's recorded, looped and glitched in real time. I love jazz improv so...that's where it comes from. Also, when I say "live performance" I really mean pesudo-live PA-style. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@mcladyollivah Sweet. Pick up the sax and start playin then! The EWI was about $800 I think. Check em out online. They have an EWI USB now for cheaper. Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks for watching! For DJing with live pretty much all I'd recommend for a basic setup is an APC-40 or APC-20. I do a lot of extra "psuedo live PA" stuff so I need more controllers. Happy mixing!

I'm so impressed by all of that!
Think I'm gonna save my money to start buying some equipment^^
I wanted to buy the Kaoss pad 3 first and maybe a microphone (either a microphone for beatboxing or for my sax)
Thats gonna be a huge investment ._.

How do you map the air pressure from the EWI to velocity? I've got a 3000 and it controls the mod wheel universally at the moment.
ihasmario 1 year ago
@ihasmario Air / breath pressure actually maps to aftertouch by default. I just use the mod matrix in Sampler to respond to aftertouch. Cheers!
DJVespers 1 year ago
@DJVespers How do you make it so things respond to aftertouch like that in ableton?

@ihasmario Actually, I just managed to fix my synth module so it functions correctly and I am now able to configure midi from the unit and I can set breath to a few things (including volume) from there. :)

@gnattychad I have the EWI coming in through the midi in on my MPD32 so I use activate track and remote on that port on the MPD32. Cheers!

Anyway thanks!
s0nkite 1 year ago
@s0nkite These ones are 5", the Rockits also come in 8" too. I'd grab the 8's if I were you. 5" is too small without a sub. Cheers!
