  • what string did you put on the makala? the plastic strings are brutal

  • nice vid!

  • anyway it's a Makala lollll

  • what make is that 2nd ukulele

  • did you change the strings?

  • My "Applause" guitar by Ovation is a plastic body too. I've had a lot of compliments on it's sound and I only paid $130 for it.

That Uke sounds nice and warm. Good demo.

  • @legatolaurel My brother has an Applause ukulele and it sounds good, but isn't as loud as these. Thanks!

  • @legatolaurel man alan needs to learn how to play.

  • the makala's sound is so sweet and it's such a cute and beautiful uke c: i'm siding with the purple makala:D <3

  • @LiliputLemonade Yah, thanks!

  • I think the sound on the Makala is a bit sweeter than the TV Pal. Nice vid!!

  • @Westernwilson Thanks for your input!

  • @Westernwilson I disagree.

  • I like the 50s one better

  • The Makala sounds cleaner while the TV sounds fuller are warmer. Could be the string difference or maybe thicker plastic on the TV.

  • Thank You!!!

  • Omigosh it's my sister's ukulele! She got the pink one and I got green. It does sound worse than a wooden one though... I think I should get me a better ukulele. Thanks for this review.

  • Nice vid, Alan - but you look like you're hiding from the Blair Witch!

  • do you have the link to where I can buy one of these?? I think I'm in love:)

  • ebay musicguymic, these are the lowest ukulele he carries for that price.

  • I'm amazed a plastic anything could have the sweet tone that has.

  • Yay. I love my pinkalele! It is my baby.

  • i really like the makala Alan....

did you like the action on it?

  • someone really needs to make some t.v. pal clones. those old 50's plastic ukes had it just right.

  • Every single day of my working life I use these (makala), and deal with them. Even with the standard strings and not Aquilas, I still rate them as a beginners instrument. Far superior to the Mahalo, Blue Moon, and Easy brands. 2 penneth over! thanks for the review!

  • I wonder how one of these would sound with a pickup?

  • love the dolphin bridge !!

    cool Alan :)

  • tv pal may be louder, but the purple is prettier!

  • I know. I feel like a princess when I play it!

  • @UKISOCIETY a pretty, pretty princess

  • Deluxe- I'll say!

  • AND how!

  • Is very cool , 2 Ukalele is OK!

  • Great!

  • sounds purty good!

are those chords you're making above the 5th fret? do they make chords above the 5th fret?! on any instrument? i remain skeptical.

  • You funneh.

  • Thanks for confirming the neck being wood. They changed the shape a bit and it is a lighter wood than the neck on the old ones.

Nice to hear a plastic makala with aquilla's, as it is a closer comparison to my wood makala (my daughter's plastic still has the factory strings).

    Good stuff, Alan. Thanks.

  • The Makala feels so heavy in comparison to the TV Pal, mainly because of the neck and tuners. I'm tempted to chang out the tuners with peg friction ones to lighten them. Tempted but I won't!

  • hey allen I'm looking for one like this for my daughter in pink thanks a million

and some kick ass play'n by the way

    thanks

    Ken G

  • Nice! The Makala really has a much richer sound. I can kind of hear a "clack clack" on the strings on the TV Pal when you strum it, but the Makala has a really mellow sound. A lot better than I expected! Thanks!

  • Glad I could shed the pale light of truth on the whole plastic debate! :D

  • i'm always surprised by how nice these plastic ukes sound. that or you're just really good. i think i'll go with my first instinct. n_n

  • Most animals do.

    : P

  • zinggg!

  • Booyah!

  • very useful info. The Makala sounds like a great light traveling companion.

  • It would be a great clunker. Clunk it around a bit!

  • Great ending indeed! Otherwise, it's an interesting comparison. Thanks!

  • merci pour watching!

  • Best ending to a video, ever :0)

Also, great comparison. The TV Pal sounded brighter, but that Makala sound can't be argued with. Fun, cheap and playable.

    Nice.

  • Agree. And we missed The Office. A storm kept us from getting NBC. :*(
