Amazing how the Philly sound even transcends into its rap music. Philly always did know how to get down. Amazing artist & music have come from this city & state over the years. Rock On, Philly.
even in 2008 this still goes on if i were a rapper all i need to do is follow these instructions on how to do a music video it's ok 2 see this stuff sumtimes but when its all you see from many artist that shit gets tired really fast i forgot ho much i love this tune
one of tha first videos i can actually say i luv! usually when you see a video it be dumb and dnt match wit tha song, but this one does. i also like in 1:58 when they show a guy in tha background lookin stupid and then it says 'paid to fake it...' LOL.
not many groups like this anymore..I've found a few and the one that really stands out is this up and coming hip hop/jazz band called ArtOfficial...really really sick...check out the main video on my page..your welcome
wow it took me 3 months to read your post...but dang Artofficial is dope. I was not expecting it..... hope they make it, hip hop needs its jazz influence
why did rappers take offense to this? well, actually i can understand why they took offense .. but what were the root's message (if they didnt intend to be offensive?
the song could've ended there and i would've been more than satisfied. The video just happens too be my favorite rap video of all time. amazing stuff from the illadelphites!
I remember with I got the snippett tape for this album Illadelph Halflife. That was '95. Man, this song takes me back. There's really nothing to buy now. Oh yeah, there's Soldier Boy (Superman that Hoe) Yo, I'm definitely gonna cop that (lol). I'd rather smoke crack than buy that. TAKE ME BACK!!! Back to the days of MC's, when we did more seeing than believin'. When we were glad to pay $20 $30 to go see Tribe De La and the Roots, Main Source, Black Sheep; even Special Ed.
...Folks, there's a serious problem with the state of rap music right now. This medium that could have galvanized an entire population has been reduced to making commercials for Bentley, Mercedez-Benz, Crystal, Versace, and a host of other consumer products. I swear, rap music broke my heart. She really did. It's sort of like watching a girl you loved so much... become a prostitute. I'm not sure I'll ever recover (and I doubt she will as well). This video reminds me of how beautiful she was.
This song is legendary....I hate music that comes out nowadays only dwele, floetry, jill scott, the roots, common, musiq soulchild, Jon B, Sade and a few others still make music how it's supposed to be. The rest is bragging bout what they got and you not, why there hot and you not, and calling people names and stuff. I'm going back to the basics back to the music of the 90's...Music nowadays is hollow, bullshit and has no worth
This video is great and a genuine reflection on the state of hiphop then and now. All flash and thuggery but no substance. The Roots are a very necessary group. This song's on a different cd but my favorite Roots is 'Things Fall Apart'. Still a classic nine years later.
Yo kid, This Video Is Prophetic Because Even Waaay Back In 1996 They Saw Where Rap Was Heading And How Commercial It Was Getting. It's Funny Isn't It, How Relivant This Still Is Today From The Video Alone Showing The Outrageousness And Exaggerated Imagery Of What Some So Called "Hip-Hop" Vids Have. Still A Classic Taking Shots At All Posers, Frauds And Fakes...
word up Blue, I was having a conversation about when Hip Hop started to get really wack and let the money take over and I said well I think 96, because you had Foxy Brown (wack and fake), Lil Kim (Biggie wrote her rhymes), No Limit etc and all of the played out gangster shit.
Fugees as well, not that the album was wack, but when it was getting played on commercial radio and in cheesy clubs, I stopped listening to it and used to play it out months before it was "cool" or "down".
And still The same crap in hip hop videos.

THIS IS THE REAL VERSION.
UMG Took out the subtitles to make it seem like another typical rap video of these days.
Great job, finally found the real VERSION.
